Ploping the factories. Good or bad idea?

Suppose that I want to take fully control of my industrial zones and prefer to build the factories and not just let them grow. I notice that plopable factories can't deploy freight trucks, but that's all. Is there any problem with it? Any advice about ploping the factories is welcomed :)

You can plop industrial lots (assuming they've been modded correctly) and they will work fine except

they will not generate freight. I do have and use some but they are all hi tech representing software

or research companies which don't ship freight in real life.

For other industrial lots (those that really make stuff) I've made custom lots and zone using the control

key to influence what grows where. It's sometimes a battle with the game to get what I want where but

it's worth it. I just de-zone and re-zone until I'm happy. I like the freight train ! Otherwise, I would plop

all my industrial lots.

Yes there is. Freight leaving the city provides industrial cap relief which in turn drives workforce demand. Or to put in other words; plop all industries and you'll eventually end up in a situation where there more than enough jobs available while residential demand and thus growth is absent.

Moreover ploppables almost always cause commuter issues. That is to say, sims may have difficulty reaching them even if they're just around the corner. This makes ploppables prone to underutilisation and abandonment. The situation may arise where you'll have 'no job' zots crop up all over the place while at the same time a large number of jobs seems available.

That said, there's nothing stopping you from plopping an entire industrial base, just be prepared to deal with annoying commuter issues and make sure to keep residential demand going by other means (CS$ or IR for example).

Personally I prefer to use as little ploppables as possible. In fact I only plop diagonals and even than only when I'm too lazy to turn it into a growable. :D

So an industrial zone made only by plopable factories is not such a good idea :ooh:

Thank you very much for the answer :)

plopping an industrial is only recommended when the lot is far bigger that what is zoned

Bad! Plopping any RCI building messes up the demand for a long time, and makes the rest of the play difficult and unreliable until the waves settle. It is like throwing a rock in a still pond.
