Hey everyone,

well I'm not exactly a new member. I registered here at Simtropolis around 2002 or 2003 I believe so very soon should mark the 10 year anniversary of my membership. I was wondering if anybody else is still here from those very early days? If not, nice to meet you all! And so glad this site is still running. :)

yep. If you go the thread you can see that he started it back in March 2003.

Good to see you back! Have a bunny. :bunny:

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Well, if it isn't the Off-Topic Junkie himself!

There aren't many people from 2003 still around, but I am among the few.

Hey brother. Glad to see you still here.

You have all the game updates, right? With those, SimCity shouldn't crash anymore...

Unless you have a dual core or quad core computer. If so, make sure you set SC4 to run on only one processor.

Still will crash... but dropped my crashes 90%

Now only crashes if I move around my large cities too fast, or a NAM puzzle pieces conflicts.

I have download version 1.1641.002 from Gamestop. Is that the latest version?

And also says my computer processor has dual core. How do I make it run on only one? And wont that slow that the game?

    Thanks!

Yes, it looks like you have the latest version.

To set the game to use one core:

Right click properties on your SC4 shortcut

The following is what I have in MY Target line:

    "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -CPUCount:1

Being that SC4 was developed before multi cores- it can't use more than one. Setting the game to only use one core greatly reduces CTD's (but doesn't eliminate them.) Another thing that I have found the reduces CTD is saving the game often as I play. Daeley's Save Alarm Mod is great for reminding me to do just that - finally a helpful adviser! (You need to be registered on the LEX to be able to see the download button.)

Hope this helps... welcome back to the game! :thumb:

Thanks for the useful mod! But what are you telling me to do about the processor thingy? Im I supposed to add the last part? And my computer is in French.

edit: also just realized that there is an error with the LEX registration that wont let me login (tells me my account is already logged, when I just created it and its not). Bummer.

mmmm - hopefully someone bilingual will come along - not sure if -CPUCount:1 is the same in French.

The other alternative is to start the game - then start Task Manager (Press Ctrl Alt Delete buttons) Click on the Processes tab and scroll to the SimCity 4.exe, right click and select Set Affinity. A small box should pop up that will let you choose which/how many cores. Close out of the Task Manager and head back to the game.

    Cheers!

Thank you so much! I just did that.

Now, just two more questions. Is there anywhere else that has a mod that reminds you to save games? And also, I think I am playing on a wide-screen laptop because my SC4 screen is so small and leaves a lot of black space on the edges. Any way to fix that also?

I don't know of another save reminder - maybe ask in the

As to wide screen - adjust your resolution in the Sim City 4 short cut Target line:

-CustomResolution:Enabled and the custom resolution definition -rwxhxd

    Where w = the horizontal pixel count;
h = the vertical pixel count; and
    d = the graphics depth (probably 32)

Mine looks like this:  -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32

    My whole path:"C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -CPUCount:1

-intro:off  turns off the game's introduction
    -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32  this sets resolution
    -CPUCount:1  runs on one core

    Hope this helps

Right, but how does he do this in French?

For saving, I would go with the CTRL + ALT + DELETE, Processes, right click SimCity4.exe and "Set Affinity". The only problem is you have to do this every single time you start up the game. Bit of a pain.

For custom resolution, try directly translating it and see if it works. You can probably google how to do it in French actually.

    Hi,

yes it is existing a french sc site+forum: http://www.toutsimcities.com/

But the engllish settings should be "Systemlanguage independant".

And i am running SC4 with these settings:

    -CPUCount:2

    -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366x768

on a german and spanish system, by the way: i have no problems running SC4 in dualcoremode

    on a AMD E2 E350.

Here u can find more Information about the commandline parameters: http://simcityforum.com/showthread.php?t=848

    and also: http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Tutorial:Shortcut_Parameters

hope this will help a bit ... :ninja:
