Hey guys, just got back from japan, what a beautiful country, rich in culture, had a wonderful time, and can't wait to go again! Even thou while visiting the major cities we did see alot of western influence, the outlying areas had a rich experience. For a country recently devastated by an earthquake they sure hold their heads high and proud, and are surprisingly very patient and friendly with tourists.

Anyhow haven't really giving this much thought yet, but will do so over the next few days, right now I'm really jet lagged and need to lay down for awhile.

Wow I really hope you will give it another go!

Your game sounds so much better than SC5 :)

I was wondering where/if you would resurface. I'm still excited to see what comes out of this project, and interested to see how work on it progresses. I have to agree with what was said a few posts back, that if it looks like the project is nearing abandonment, send out your files to a handful of other people so they aren't lost for eternity, and I'd be happy to help in this regard.

Otherwise, as work progresses, if you need help in specific areas, let us know, maybe there'll be someone, or several someones, who can lend a hand.

I would love to see this continued as well. Since the new SC (2013) is essentially Simcity Societies 2, will be an EA cash cow, and not the next great SimCity, I would love to see this project continued.

I was wondering if there would be updates to the driver interaction system as it pertains to taking advantage of newer hardware. SC4 simply refuses to run on a lot of newer systems, like win7 and newer video cards (past the ATI X2000 and nvidia 9000 series cards), as well as the newer WDDM driver architecture. Essentially these new software and hardware systems just cause SC4 to either crash to desktop, or completely lockup the PC where a hard shut down and power back up is required. I was planning to set aside 30GB on my 500GB backup drive to install XP to see if it will run SC4 with the same hardware (E6600, 4GB DDR2, 1792MB GTX260).

Not true. I'm running SC4 on Win7 x64 with an ATI 4870 with no problems, and it never crashes. It's the most reliable system I've had for running SC4. No emulation modes are necessary. Plenty of other people run on Win7 with no problems too.

If you're using a multi-core machine, be sure to put "-CPUCount:1" (no quotes) in the command line of your shortcut.

I've tried everything, nothing works for this system... maybe it's ati that it runs well on and not nvidia cards?

on the other foot it runs great on my other system with Pentium 4 HT (seen as dual core) with nvidia 8400GS...

SC4 runs fine on modern ATI cards and nVidia cards either lower than the 8700 series or running older than a particular version of the drivers.

Example: Aside from having to lower the shadow quality, the game runs fine on my AMD HD6870. On the other hand, the game runs smooth on my 630M in my laptop, but there are a ton of graphical bugs like lot size previews consistently messing up after plopping a single lot, tiles refuse to highlight (making it extraordinarily hard to place dual-tile networks with any kind of finesse, you just don't know where the game is going to put the road) and the transparencies muck up frequently.
