before EA ruined everything and 3d was just a dream there was a game called simcity 3000. then there was one called simcity 3000 world edition. i bought both. the first game i ever bought was sc3000 and it has stayed close to my heart ever since 1998. The game of the nineties and THE simcity returns!
well i have finally draged out my greatest city form my old PC to my new one. here it is desert springs city:
i apoligise for the terrible picture quality, it is the way the game takes it.

familier anyone? looks like the sc4 sunken highway. this was the area where i tested stuff like this, and this particular design was used in many of my cities, as a replacement for the bulky highways. looks good dosen't it?

Don't apologize for the quality ...

    Oh yeah ... SC3K

I remember a broadcast in the radio discussing the difference between SC2K and the brandnew SC3K ... memories ...
I played SC2K long after SC3K was released and bought SC3K quite late (and VERY cheap ... 9.gif)

hmmm ... it is still installed here ... 37.gif

    maybe I should .... 42.gif

I still have the game magazines that I bought when Simcity 3000 was announced.. I can remember watching the screenshots for every little detail I could discover and hoping to buy it and play it on my uncle's computer as soon as I could.. I didn't have internet, nor my own computer back then.. In fact, I think Simcity 3000 was actually one of the first games I bought.. Obviously I started out with Simcity 2000, Doom, Wolfenstein, etc.. But Simcity 3000 was the first game that I played for long periods of time..

Thanks for the good memories! 44.gif

haha you guys make me want to post an SC2000 journal... i recreated Downtown LA back in 1995 and its been my most successful city to date... 175,000 people without any arco's, and it still looked like a realistic city (as far as SC2000 can take it)

There was actualy a way of putting a tunnel virtualy anywhere. You simply had to make a flat tile that had a 64m slope asside and create a strip of raised land at that height for the desired lenght. Then drag the network from the flat tile to the slope and the game would build a tunnel the lenght of your land strip. After what you simply had to level the land. I did build an highway going through my downtown half

Now we have a CJ for every version of SimCity.

Ah yes, those screenshots bring back memories of the SC3KU era of yesterday... well, it seemed like just only yesterday.

You have some good post modern buildings from the old exchange. I would go there everyday after school to see if there were any good downloads to add to my skyline.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

yea, I remember playing the demo and zooming in on the building and looking into the windows to see how much I could see.  I played the demo for about a month before eh... obtaining... the full version.  Since I knew the demo was going to stop, I didn't wory about needing to pay back all the loans I took out.  I developed it pretty far for how long you where given.

My big city was Neo Tokyo, but it was built on the Hong Kong map, and it was all american buildings 9.gif

Then a year or so after that I got the expansion as a gift, which was purchased somewhere.  Played that for a long time.

To be honest, I like most of the buildings in 3000 better than the ones in 4.  In sc3k I used to get exited when a building would grow because it looked realy nice, while in sc4 I didn't have that feeling as much.

I think Maxis should run a poll and include the top 15 favorite buildings from each previous sim city into sc5.

I like your city too (isn't that what this thread is supposed to be about 46.gif)

actually they are all off simcityunlimited site.
Duke 87: im sure this could easily be done with sc4 as well actually.
Hanson784: they certainly are nice. i have also have the space needle 2.0, made by jaWood, i thinks it's the same one or am i mistaken?
thanks for your comments, i thought i might put more pics of other cities up later, YAY!

Good old memories!!! Ahh what fun i used too have with this game, and i like your city too, perhaps some landmark photo's in the next update?

Ive been a long time supporter/buyer of Maxis Games, including SimEarth (Remember that one??!)

Ive played ever since the very first Simcity (Simcity Classic), back then all you had were a few square blocks, road, rail and the same repetitive park... ohhh those were the days;-) (The news video footage were always funny!)

    Simcity 2000

    Simcity 3000

    now Simcity 4

I wonder if i'll continue the trend?

(For the record i still have all of the above games)9.gif

i used sc3000.com back then to learn the tunnel building, their tutorials made it so simple that anyone could do that.

hmm, maybe is should reinstall sc3k world, had some nice stuff in there, loved the landscaping tool to. . .

This is my last post of pics for tonight. Flop city was my first ever sc3000 city. or my first ever simcity...
it went on for ages and kept expanding until it was eventually so in the red i was fired as mayor (there were no money problems for the first 400 years). can somebody get a picture of that where you are fired when you have $100000 in debt. please? So 4 years later i remade flop city, almost exactly as i remembered it, with a new downtown with tall buildings. then i decided to leave it at the point it had been before it was in debt. perhaps not the greatest city i ever made but is certainly the one i was most attached to. i can remember playing it for hours, so i thought i might share the city with the greatest meaning to me (if that dosent sound too idiotic or nerdish).
it was built using one of the sc3000 (original) starter cities, called three bridges i believe. i remember rezoning lots of the zones to low res. i used the same starter city in the remake:
    fc1.jpg
the entire flop city metropolitan area.
    fc3.jpg
    downtown
    fc2.jpg
    flop city port
    fc4.jpg
the three bridges district. (the bridges were there in the starter town).
    fc5.jpg
west of the city with FCU
    fc6.jpg
south with the flop city power plant
    fc7.jpg
north west, with lots of rich houses.
    fc11.jpg
    FCX
    fc10.jpg
lake district, rich area as you can see
    fc9.jpg
the suburbs and industrial districts, north.
    fc15.jpg
    the mayors statue.
    fc14.jpg
the original bridge in the starter city
so there you go, another one. how about that then? i would love to remake this, it would be good, it's just i could never get the terrain right. hmmmm, no more updates tonight!

So true. Everything was simpler on SC3. I have UK edition and the normal one. Personally I really like the aisan set the best, mainly because the apartment blocks were nicer and the commercials were nicer looking. There wasn't a Kenner Dinner Theatre popping up all down the road and people actually did use the motorway system. I liked the way you could choose the buildings that you didn't want building in your city and the quiry button worked on plain land (you could ge the land height so that your bridges could be near level) and you could have underwater tunnels. The transport options were great too. the highways looked pretty good and the roads were slightly more flexable. Don't remember much about the rail system. The seaports worked as did the airport.

The flaw that I really hated about SC3 was the fact that you couldnt build on slopes, but back then we didn't care because it was such a good game.

The advisors wern't as annoying (remember Malcom Landgrabb and that dear old granny?). Good times, Good times.

Keep it going Toxic Piano, Thats a grand job there!

thanks guys! i'm thinking about remaking them, but i have another cj in the line at the moment, and i don't have much time on my hands at the mermont. yes i agree wallasey that the advisors were a lot better than the old ones. they were actually funny, and another that put humour in the game was the news ticker. Simcity 4 acts like it has never heard of humour. it's dead serious and cold and impersonal unlike sc3k. also what was good were the petitioners, it was cool how they tried to get you to use ordinances or take them away and then your advisors would agree or disagree with them. THE ADVISORS ACTUALLY HELPED YOU AND AIDED YOU. well there you go.

Yes exactement! The ask advice button was there and guidence was given to you! There was humour in the game ( most of it brocolli related!). I also think that the traffic simulation was more realistic too. Alright cars did vanish on the highways BUT on the roads the traffic jams were real! you could have tailbacks stretching in all directions and you could have double bridges. May it be road or rail, double bridges were possible!

SC4 has many good aspects to it however, the aspects I am thinking of have come from Simtropolis and NOT Maxis!
