Hello! I downloaded the latest NAM, RHW, and NWM, and for the first time a new simulator (low capacity). I was wondering if you think it'd be best to start a new city, a new region, or play in my current ones for now, just so I can adjust to the changes?

I would play the current one. In my opinion, it is VERY funny to have to build freeways/highways in the middle of an already built area. Very funny and realistic, a true challange. I envy you. However also starting a new region is cool. Choice is only up to you, you can also bring on two regions at the same time. Like a SCS trailer says "possibilities are endless".

Yes. Urban renewal can be a lot of fun. Just remember that since you are a god you can do anything you like.

If you want to see how the new simulator works, test it on an already built city... as already suggested, it'll probably mean you need to create some improved networks to cope with the change. enjoy!

And give it a few Sim-years to adjust things. It is not really instantaneous.

Stick to your current region, I have found it can be just a tad more tedious and boring when designing cities around transport, not transport around cities. But limit the use of your godly powers, I managed to go from a very healthy §10,000,000 to nothing in one city!

Thumbs up if I should 'NAMise" this region :golly:

I let the new simulator run for just a little while on the fastest mode, and traffic did drop in many areas. However, there are now little spots of red scattered all around. Is this normal? As in every few tiles one is red.

In my experience, NAMizing a city can be a quite overwhelming task due to the huge amount of new possibilities in front of you. The NAM actually "changes" your city-building style (even more if you combine it with an slope mod), if you start a new city from scratch, you'll see that.

Are you using the congestion display or the traffic flow display? With the NAM, you get better information from the traffic flow display.

Congestion. And I've had the NAM for a few years, just not this.

With the NAM in place, the congestion display gets a little confused. Try choosing the next radio button down to get a clearer picture of your traffic situation.

Now in at least my one city, there are red X's all over the map in the congestion display. What causes this?

If you remove the NAM, I think this will go away. This is why you should use the traffic flow display.

The X's are due to the way NAM handles congestion around intersections. I think in the unmodded SC4, it was purely additive, so you got higher congestion only on the tile where roads intersect. With the NAM, the there is apparently some simulation of the slowdown that occurs when you approach an intersection (to stop at a stop sign or red light, for example), so that would cause the congestion of the roads surrounding the intersection to go up.

As the Moose said, use the traffic flow display when you use the NAM. It's gives much better data about where your roads are getting filled up.

If you don't think this is the case with your game, take a picture of the congestion data map along with the parts of the city affected, and post it here.

I think the NAM is the case, thank you!
