I dearly hope that I can play against myself. I don't play well with others, and I would hope that if a region was being played as "1" player, I'd be able to build the surrounding cities as well, with no penalties for not playing with others. I have no interest in playing with someone I don't know, and frankly wouldn't want the effects of their city on my own. Count me into the skeptics of the multiplayer aspects. (After watching Monte Cristo fail miserably with a poorly contrived "planet offer", I can't help but be skeptical) But, I shall attempt to refrain from criticizing until I have solid facts. I'm still hopeful that Maxis will do the series justice.

Thanks to the news from RedScope, we know now that the game will be moddable.

I've updated the first post to include this info.

This post aims to summarize everything that we know about the game so far. I will try and keep it updated as best I can.

Lets start with the official trailer and the inside look.

Gamechangers event video. Starts at 20.30

Concept art. School. Coal HQ. Casino City. Crash scene.

The next information we got was from the inside the glassbox engine presentation. The videos below are just to show off the simulator and not the intended graphics.

    Part 1: Glassbox overview.

    Part 2: The economy loop.

    Part 3: Environmental simulation.

    Part 4: Fire simulation.

The entire slide show shown at the presentation can be found here(download)and also here(online).

The maxis developers then did a AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) which simtropolis user FireBird summarized for us all and can be found here.

    Looking through all of the above it appears to me that;

    1. The game will allow modding.
    2. The game will use RCI zoning.
    3. The look of the game will use tilt shift style photography and the buildings will have the appearance of detailed model railroad models.
    4. The game will allow solo and multiplayer options.
    5. The game will be on PC and Mac.

They also mentioned they are looking at incorporating as many network options as possible. As well as mixed use zoning if the simulation works with it. They also mentioned that they will look at adding a UDI in the future.
