I have spotted a mistake in jeronij's CJ! 6.gif2.gif There is no access to the building in the top left corner of picture of 27.04 and so it has a no access icon above it. Excellent work though with your past two updates! 19.gif Peraries is looking amazing! Keep up the brilliant work! 44.gif

WOW man! Once again what a wonderfull job! It's amazing how creative your harbour areas are becoming.

I have a couple of questions for you conserning some of the lots you used. Where did you get them? 29.gif LOL! Like the black train garages and (of course these are yours) the sugar and iron port. I can never get my custom ports to work well with your new sea walls v.4. I can't seem to get the LAND/WATER thing working well on the lot editor. I always have to place it one tile too further in the water so I get something like this:
--------walls-------            -------walls--------
                        |  PORT  |
                        |            |
                          ----------
What is it that I am doing wrong? How do you set it to be paralel to your sea walls? Do you use the Lot editor? What I want is something like this:
--------walls-----------PORT----------walls--------
How is it that I do it?
Thanks a lot man! And once again great job!

This is exactly what I want and have this suggested towards Jeronij, I hope he wants to make this happen for us 48.gif

Nice looking port you've got there Jeronij! 44.gif

Hey Jeroni, great updates... I think I know what your mistake was, it's a miss-placed prop. Is there a ship in the middle of you train yard in picture 27.07?

Excellent work on that last update Jeronij... you are totally blowing me away with your detail, and your lots!! As I said before, I tend to like this journal even better than SCR. I will come to this city journal for inspiration on my industrial areas. 44.gif

Yesterday was the first time I played Simcity 4 this year (2006) after all the crashing problems. Anyways, I practied with your rocky shores and I got it! I now plan to build penisulas and tons of other great ideas with it.

Wow, Peraira cargo area looks stunning! Great variety of industrial buildings, and the cranes and stuff add much to the realism of it!

jeronij - Wonderful work as usual. Question: you have rock out-croppings in low hills and even fairly gentle slopes. Is this the result of a mod? I need a very steep hill to get the rock textures to show. Thanks.

Aye AK is 100% right on this.I belive that's what makes your original lots look more realistic.A darker shade of concrete and more weathered effects.Right now its too bright and almost futuristic looking, but I dop admit your fences on top look excellent.

oh and I do belive this is my first comment here so....hurray for who ever.....18.gif39.gif

Wow, that was such a great interview. Was it odd being interviewed? I've never heard of such a great story behind a CJ (your son). That interview revealed a lot of stuff I didn't know about you. Thanks for doing that interview.

Edited: Wow! I just got a weird looking label. Is that a custom label? Nevermind, it just changed back to statesman.

The walls look very good, although the texture does seem a bit bright and plain, a darker greyish colour would look good I suppose. Other than that the new features are excellent!

    Jeronij-

I know it's been awhile since I posted here, but your new walls are so good, I just had to comment, especially as you asked us to.

I agree with others that the concrete needs to be more weathered.  Concrete, when exposed to weather, leaches lime, which creates dusty white streaks and spots on the wall.  Mold also grows freely on exposed concrete, again in streaks and spots, but usually black.  Lastly, as concrete is organic, it attracts lichen and, eventually, plant growth.  The grey-green of your seawalls is about the right color and texture,  but instead of being semi-uniform, the lichen would follow the streaking of the mold as it broke down the compounds in the concrete.  So, ideally (and most realistically), your weathering of the concrete would start with the lime leaching out of the walls.  After the lime begins to leach out, mold begins to grow, and then lichen, although some lichen will be able to grow in the limed areas even before the mold.

The drainage grates at the bottom of the walls are a great touch of realism, but are a little bright.  More likely, they would be cast iron of some sort and would be small pipes instead of grates.  When they build big retaining walls like this, the area immediately behind the wall is excavated, then the wall is built.  Gravel is usually poured behind the new wall to allow soil seepage to naturally migrate to the bottom of the wall, preventing a water surcharge against the wall.  At the bottom of the wall, perforated pipe is laid before the gravel goes in, so that the water that accumulates at the bottom of the wall can enter the pipe and be drained away from the wall.  The perforated pipe is usually attached to a solid iron pipe that penetrates the base of the retaining wall and which is placed before the forms are built and the concrete poured.  Cast iron also has a chemical reaction with concrete over time, leaching iron (rusty red) into the surrounding concrete.  Over a LOT of time, the concrete around the drain pipe eventually becomes soft and crumbly and falls away from the pipe, making the opening around the pipe bigger than the pipe itself.  Then the water in the perforated pipe starts escaping before it enters the solid pipe and exits from behind the wall in the hole around the solid pipe, creating erosion at the base of the wall.  That's when the wall needs to be fixed or else it will start to sag and eventually collapse entirely.

I know no one here wanted a mini-lesson in retaining wall mechanics, but if you want to make real-looking walls, knowing how the walls age may be of help.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could create walls that aged over time, in game, the same way that roads and power plants do?  That Monte Carlo slalom road you build through your mountains, with retaining walls on the cliff side, would eventually start to fail, the wall would sag, the roadway above it would fall, and whoops!  There goes a car, over the edge, into the canyon.

Yeah, I know...more Mayor Mode things to worry about.  As if aging power plants aren't bad enough.

    Just my $1.00 worth...

Keep in mind that jeron said that the textures were only a starting point.

I'd love those walls. But er, will this solve the problems of wall textures being pinched in the middle on certain slopes?

Great walls. Back to your roots again huh?

What I like about these walls is the very smooth outer curved corners.
So you can plop any Mayor Mode plopable item on them; such as trees or also items from one of the otehr menu's then these are always at least 1x1 ?

Great interview Jeronij. Very personal. Regards to your Son Sebastian. 17.gif

I like the walls, but as people have said in the posts above they should have some more weathered effect, i think the texture looks a litle bit to clean. Also that blue stuff on the bottom of the walls looks a bit out of place. However, the fence looks amazing. I like that you're making new walls, i can't get enough of them and the shape of them is something new and it would really be a great addition to be able to make mountain-roads.
