Hello! I just have a quick question about Sim City 4. I LOVE Sim City 4, and I just got a new laptop. Do you think it is a good idea to download or install Sim City 4 to my laptop? Or will it take up too much space on my laptop? Thanks!

That depends on your personal feelings and the space of the hard drive itself. You have to take into account your plugins suite size as well. Hard drives have no notable performance difference between desktops and laptops.

If you're going to play on a laptop, make sure you have an acceptable cooling solution. This game will take your CPU to the max and an insufficient rig will suffer from overheat shut downs.

Merry Christmas.

Keep calm and take photographs.

I just got a new laptop too! But anyway, I have always been running SC4 on my old laptop that I bought in 2009. (Windows 7, 64-Bit) It worked completely fine. I think you should install it and see what happens. It should work. About the HDD/Memory, you can check how much space you have left in Start Menu>My Computer. SC4 really doesn't take up more than 1-3 GB, with a big Plugins folder. I think mine is about 1.4 GB. So to get to the point, Yes, you should install SC4. If it is a new laptop, it probably has plenty of memory available. ;)

Thanks so much guys! It is brand new, probably only a few percent on the memory, if that. I'll have a go at it! Jack, congrats on the new laptop! Also, is there anyway to transfer my data from my CPU to the laptop, say, copying everything SC4 related and moving it by jump drive over to the laptop? Thanks so much, Merry Christmas! :)

You could copy your entire SC4 folder to the SC4 folder on your new laptop using a data transfer cable or a big enough flash drive. Since I'm going to use both of my laptops, I am just going to start with a fresh SC4 folder on the new one. But, if you want to you could have Best Buy transfer everything over, but it is overly expensive and not worth it. Try using a flash drive to move the files back and forth and see if it works for you. ;)

You will want to be sure to copy your Regions folder and Plugins folder found in My Documents/SimCity 4 folder. Also, check the Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4/Plugins folder to see if you had any plugins located there. Copy that also, if used.

Once you install the game on the new computer, you can replace the new folders with the copies. Be sure to replace the folders. Pasting over existing ones could lead to problems.

My laptop is little more than a word processor for me and it runs Sim City just fine.
