How to fully patch Simcity 4.

How do I fully patch Simcity 4? I'm aware of the EP1 patch and things like that. What I also want are the mods like the crime doesn't pay mod which fixes police stations and the mod that fixes I-HT not having high wealth jobs.

I heard that I-HT not providing any high wealth jobs is because of other mods on the computer. What happens when I put the mod on vanilla Simcity 4 Deluxe/Rush Hour?

I want to be able to have a fully patched copy of Simcity 4 Deluxe/Rush Hour without any mods (except the ones that fix bugs), then add some mods to it eventually.

Now that depends on how you got your game. If it is a downloaded game, check your version by hovering your mouse over the file

C:\Program Files\ ... \Apps\SimCity 4.exe and if the readout is 1,1,640 or 1,1,641 you don't need any patches.

However, if you loaded the game from disk then for Deluxe you need two patches:

EP1 for the region in which the game was sold, available at http://www.ea.com/simcity-4-deluxe

Update for BAT which can be found at https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php where you move to the bottom of this page, look in the left hand frame, and click on the EA support button, accept the agreement, find the BAT page and download the update (only) for the game.

The rest are mods and are on the STEX.

I'd give you the links but the STEX search isn't co-operating with me. However the main ones are the Opera House Fix and Crime Doesn't Pay.

Beyond that be sure you have the two Bldg_Props_Vol1 and _Vol2 available from the pinned thread above "Get your Maxis files here."

With these fixes you will be able to use most custom content on this site.

When you are feeling a little frustrated because of the limited choices for your transportation network you should consider the Network Addon Mod (NAM) available by following this thread. The NAM is now so large it needs its own site. You will find that the current NAM has several supplements among which are the Network Widening Mod (NWM), the Street Addon Mod (SAM), the Road Top Mass Transit modd (RTMT), and the Real Highways mod (RHW). Ongoing plans are to consolidate all NAM related mods in one installer, but for now you have to dig them out and do it yourself.

If you find the Agriculture lots boring and not very nice looking, you might want to have a look at the SimPeg Agriculture Mod (SPAM) which is on the STEX but much more of it is on http://www.simpeg.com/forum/index.php.

All of the sites I've mentioned have free registration.

Is there a list of known bugs so I can find mods to patch them?

I downloaded the patch that makes custom buildings light up at night but it doesn't work.

To quote Nonny Moose from above...

...check your version by hovering your mouse over the file

    C:\Program Files\ ... \Apps\SimCity 4.exe and if the readout is 1.1.640...

If yours does not read 1.1.640, what does it read? Something may have caused the patch not to be applied.

Also, not all custom content is made to light at night.

    Mine reads 1.1.638.0

I think there were other BAT patches but I wasn't sure which one to download so I just choose the one that fixes night lights. I downloaded the Bank of Simcity Plaza.

1.1.638 is the version without the night lights patch. Either you didn't try the correct patch or something kept it from installing. The correct patch can be found at SC4Devotion. Use the EA Support button on the left, accept the user agreement, then go to the BAT page (second link down). On that page, scroll down to the second link (the 14.4 MB one). It will be named SC4Update4BAT.

If that is the one you tried, then something else is causing an issue. Let us know...

I clicked the tiny, barely noticable link in the fourth box that says "BAT section", then I clicked the link in the 2nd box that says "Sim city 4 Buildings Update 14.4 MB".

Sounds like the correct one. Did you run the installer after downloading? If so, were there any error messages?

Hmmm... Are you using the SC4Devotion link? Perhaps it depends on the browser used, but I don't get a 'Run' option with IE or Chrome, only 'Open' or 'Save'. Perhaps if you would save it to your computer and run it from there. Just a thought...

I'll try it again, the computer that I play SimCity 4 on has IE 9 on it.

I saved it then installed it and it works. IDK how I got it to run when I first done it. I must've downloaded the wrong thing. I think when you click open it asks if you want to run it.

It is bad policy to run a program in a download situation. Better to save it so your virus scanner can give it a good look.

I'm going to re-install SimCity 4 anyway because I don't know which update I installed and I don't know how it's affecting my copy of SimCity 4. I'm pretty sure I didn't click on an ad.

Well, unless you really want to...

You mentioned that you had version 1.1.638. That already is the updated Deluxe/Rush Hour game. All you really need is the Sc4Update4BAT patch for night lights (1.1.640)

I'll do it anyway, it's not like I have huge mods like NAM or CAM yet. Even if I did, I would still have the installation files. I don't have huge cities that I'm working on either.

I'm trying to install the patch to my copy of SC4 Deluxe (on a disk), but I keep getting the message that it can't find the file/file type does not match.  The North American Version and the European version, neither of them want to work.

I even moved the patch to the SC folder.  No dice.

Think this may be caused by my having installed the NAM first?  edit: Maybe I can just remove the NAM folder and sneak the NA patch by... gonna try that and report back, though I don't know if that will help...  It did not.   Nor did moving all of the contents of my pluggin folder.  rats, do I have to do a complete reinstall?

I'm trying to install the patch to my copy of SC4 Deluxe (on a disk), but I keep getting the message that it can't find the file/file type does not match.

OK, first let's check a few things.

Go to your game's installation path (usually "Program Files > Maxis > SimCity 4 Deluxe") and open the 'Apps' folder. Then hover your mouse over the SimCity 4.exe file. This should reveal the game's version number. If it's anything less than 1.1.638.0 , the update was not applied. I don't think the NAM or other plugins will be an issue, although it's recommended to apply the update straight after installation.

As a reminder, there are two main updates for SC4 Deluxe: The EP1 update, and the BAT nightlights update. The EP1 update (the main patch) must be applied before the nightlights update (optional). This will initially take your game to 1.1.638.0 . The nightlights update is only needed if you'd like custom BATs to be fully functional at night, and will take it to a fully-patched version 1.1.640.0 .

As you know, there are different versions of the EP1 update, depending on your game's region (named SKU 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5). If you install the wrong update, it simply won't work. Although there's a high likelihood that your game is from North America (SKU 1) / Europe (SKU 2), you may unknowingly have one of the other regions. To check this, go to your "Program Files > Maxis > SimCity 4 Deluxe" again, but this time open the "Sku_Data" folder. Inside here, there should be a subfolder that states an SKU version number -- this is the correct update version for your game.

If this doesn't work, then I'd suggest a clean installation may be beneficial.

    ----------

P.S. Probably would've been better to start a new topic on this (last post was from 2011), but don't worry. :)

OK, found it.  Took a little bit because I'm new to Win 8.  But the SKU says it's the US version, and in the aps section the number is 00000000.256.   So it looks like it did not work, which is weird.  The patch log has the messages I received...

Applying HISTORY File Patch for 'Graphics Rules.sgr'

Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'Apps\SimCity 4.ini'

warning wpt0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was

found. No update done since file contents do not match.

Applying HISTORY File Patch for 'SimCity_1.dat'

warning wpt0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was

found. No update done since file contents do not match.

I know the patch worked long ago (in 2005) on a P4 with win xp.  Hmmmm.   The game runs great on the new system, though.   Just have to set affinity to 1 processor.

I've only been playing the game again for a week so if I have to reinstall it's not a big deal, I was shaking a lot of rust off anyway ;)

As for starting a new topic...   I'm a moderator at one site, and a former beta tester for Trade Wars Rising as well as a mod for them, so you'd think I would have known that, but also I didn't want to start a duplicate thread.

You can set the affinity using the command line option -CPUcount:1

Yep. I do have that much down.  It's not crashed one time on me since then, which is excellent, I've heard Win7 was terribly finicky with this game.

But I was wondering...   Do you think I should probably bite the bullet and reinstall it to see if the patch will work in that case?  Because I have the US patch (the euro path is now in the recycling bin), but nothing I try is successful.  I get an immediate error notice, as shown above (I copy pasted it from the patch log), saying that the old file is not there, but the one with the right name does not match contents.  Kind of frustrating.

Sometimes the patch log can report an error, while it may have actually been successful (or already applied). If the version is not lower than 1.1.638.0 , then you're good to go.

I did a reinstall, and the US patch still gave me the same error/abort notices as before.  I have no plugins, as they're all in a separate folder elsewhere on my hard drive.  This is very strange.  I wonder what could be interfering with it...

edit:  I just noticed something... the patch log says it's for 32 bit windows system.  I have a new 64 bit windows 8 system.   Might that be the stopper?  Is there anything I could do about it?

Since it is a 32-bit game that should not matter.  Are you still showing version 610?  How did you initiate the patch?

Yep, it still says 610.  I initiated the patch by first downloading it, and then from my documents simply clicking it and confirming the process.  It starts, then half a second or so later it stops and gives me the error notice that it could not find old file, but instead found the new file with the same name, but it still aborts the process every time.

Thanks to you and cyclone boom for trying to help me out with this, by the way.
