The Guardian

NTC commander Abdel-Basit Haroun said Gaddafi was killed when an airstrike hit a convoy trying to flee Sirte.

Not confirmed yet.

Beat me to it, but here's the Reuters Report. And the CBC take on it as well.

The excision of this cancerous cell will probably make the world a better place. Let's hope the Libyans can now lay down their arms and get the country on its feet.

Captured, http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/envoy/gadhafi-alleged-capture-occurred-during-siege-sirte-154837678.html

Looks like its time for Obama to get us into another conflict now, perhaps taking out Mugbe? Khamenei? Yoweri Museveni?

At this point, the news tell us that he was taken alive after his convoy was attacked, and killed by the mob shortly thereafter. Way to go, heroes...

The foreign minister is also reported dead, and rumours are flying concerning Muammar's two sons (or should that be two of his sons? Not sure). Saif al-Islam is believed to be killed or badly injured, while the other son whose name escapes me is reported dead.

So now the rebels have taken all of Libya, and the objective they've focused the most on is somewhat accomplished. Obviously it would have been a lot better if the Colonel was taken alive, as he after all served as the common enemy of all the different fighting factions in Libya. As it now stands, weapons are pretty much everywhere, there is a power vacuum, the economy is screwed and the army doesn't have a common task to focus on. Instead, lots of ethnic groups, clans, religious factions and whatnot are rivalling each other in the "ruling the country" question, and every household has a gun. This is a country that hasn't known democracy in ages, and a proper constitution is still in the early concept stage. If Gadhaffi had been taken alive, there would be a point to channel all the anger at, a person to blame for all the deaths, and the process could have been made a lot easier with fewer interruptions. Let's hope the authorities manage to make Ghadaffi another Hitler, a person who took all the blame for the bad stuff even after his death.

Phase 1 of the Libyan Civil War is over. Let's hope the next phases will be easier.

Maybe they don't want to be a democracy.

Maybe they want to be socialist or declare a king and be a monarchy. Maybe they want to separate peacefully into different countries like Czechoslovakia did.

Maybe they want to set their own goals for what kind of government they want to be.

The rest of the world is rightfully concerned about the availability of weapons to extremists. But, past that, isn't it up to them to decide what model of government they want to use?

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Better hes dead then captured.

no circus of a trial, possibility of escape ect...

the rebels can move on and build a nation with out worrying about him and his cronies.

Hopefully they can form a stable, free government, like Egypt, wait, Egypt is worse off than ever!

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I think capture of him was almost impossible, especially when the Libyans found him because they all wanted him dead. They didn't care to punish him, they just wanted to kill him.

The national council has asked Canada to help them create a constitution. Advice yes, people on the ground? Not on your tintype, Egbert.
