Hey everyone! So I've been looking at the tutorial called "how to make money" I think. Now I've tried working with it three times. I actually deleted and started my cities over. He doesn't seem to have ANY problems with his jobs and such. with the exception of a few houses with the no jobs sign. Now I have the NAM...and the Less abandonment Job. I know the abandonment is not due to commute time. It's because they can't get jobs, but I don't know how to supply Jobs without Demand for them. Can someone give me a hint because I've been following street for street what that Kid did On the tutorial. I can't seem to get this game past a certain point. I rarely see skyscrapers, even small ones and I've never seen city skyscrapers since I bought the game when IT FIRST CAME OUT! Please someone help me...A quick read through that tutorial might help you give me some tips.

Which income level is it that you don't have any jobs for?

So, you have zoned residential, industrial and commercial zones, and still you have not enough jobs?

However, skyscrapers are not the first thing to develop in a city. It took me (sim)years of gameplay until the first went up. I think it also has to do with park effect .. commercial zones need plazas and parks to develope into that high-rise-areas ... and good transportation, ...

Maybe you could post a screenshot of your city layout that might help us understand the problem ...

Welcome to the conversation.

If you bought the game when it first came out, I hope you have upgraded to Rush Hour. The NAM won't do anything without it, and may crash your game.

In order to give you any kind of real help, we need to understand what you are running. Which version of the game do you have? SimCity 4, SimCity 4 Rush Hour/Deluxe, or the downloaded version recently released to on-line sellers? This game was released in 2002, so if you have the original version, there are quite a few later things you should have.

Also, what operating system are you running? It is nice for us to be in tune with what you have in front of you, and yes, please post a picture of your city if you will.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses....So i have Windows 7 professional. I just bought a new version of the game a week ago from the store(the sim box)...even though I had an older version. i downloaded all the patches necessary as mentioned in the thread "For the eager but overwhelmed newcomer"....As far as pictures go Look up the tutorial "how to make money" and that is a mirror of what my city looks like. THe industry is in a different city...and the suburbs are in a different city. That dude doesn't seem to have any problems but I have WHOLE lots of people without jobs. and it seems to be the low wealth houses.

The making money tutorial seems to give different results for each person who attempts it as I have seen a number of threads asking about it but the problems are not all the same. Have you tried creating the tutorial without the abandonment mod? The abandonment mod may no longer be compatible with things like the NAM and may just be a source of headaches. Also in demand abandonment issues we seem to be better able as a community to give good tips and theories if you are able to provide us with a few screenshots; In this case the most important ones would be your detailed demand graph and detailed tax graph.

Things off the top of my head as well to check up on:

-Neighbor connections, it may be as simple as accidentally misconnecting your traffic.

-How long have you run each tile? are the buildings that house the jobs already built or still just a zone?

-Are the jobs being filled from somewhere else in your region? Use the route query tool if they are to see where it is all coming from.

-Are you running any other modes aside from NAM and the NoAbandonment?

So I'm terrible at computers and this is the best I could do with uploading pictures. I couldn't upload them from my folder to here directly because the file size is to big, and I also don't know how to upload them with the demand bar open cuz then I can't take a picture. I looked all over this forum for a good tutorial on it but the image shack thing is all I could find. Also, I started the tutorial without either two Mods...then i added the NAM middle way in, then I added the less abandonment one because nothing was working. That doesn't seem to be working either. Then i restarted on a different map with both it seemed to work ...and then everything went no jobs on me again. It's not even like they stay no jobs its like waves of getting jobs and losing them...and then the building goes abandoned. It's very frustrating. So NOW I deleted the low abandonment mods and just have the NAM now, at least I think. I have two questions....DO you think how fast I speed through the game itself has anything to do with why there are no jobs? Also, The tutorial says very little about mass transit...it says pay attention to it and that's it. I don't seem to have problems with my transit system though, I don't have much just a few bus stops that no one even uses. Could that have something to do with it? Thanks everyone!

Oh, have you downloaded NAM and lots of traffic simulator stuff on it? Get NWM and RHW. Of course you have those unemployment levels. You need to build stuff a little more closer the the houses. Sims will drive across a large city tile just to get to a job and still have short commute. You need to zone more commercial towards your suburbs. Maybe add more exits to your neighborhood.

I'm not sure I understand you haha....I'm all new to this so forgive me for my ignorance. I do have NAM but nothing else. And I don't really have commerical demand or dirty industry demand of anything I just have a LOT LOT LOT OF low wealth residential demand!

hmmm...since you have NAM installed, it's probably not commute time, but you could always make a neighbor connection with that avenue on the left hand side of your screenshot. never hurts to have another option for the commuters.

the other thing i'd try is to maybe zone some more industry next door, let it develop, run a month or two, then go back to your residential section.

oh, NWM = network widening mod, and RHW = real highway (i've seen it called rural highway, too). pretty handy to have in the old toolbox. :thumb:

Don't overcomplicate your life just yet. Both of those mods are good, but have rather steep learning curves.

To solve your problem, look at your jobs and population chart, and see about your R$ population vs. the I-D, CS$ along with I-Ag. These are the only places R$ get to work except as low grints in CO buildings. (You can selectively turn off parts of this chart by using the radio buttons on the right).

Then look at your demand graph. A big demand for R$ does not necessarily mean build a bunch of single occupancy luxury lots. What poor R$ want is an apartment in a tenement. You get those by zoning high-rise (multiple occupancy) zones of 3 x 3, 3 x 4, and 2 x 4 (E-key). You should also consider some clusters of W-key lots because some of them are walk-ups.

Keep an eye on two of the graphs in particular: Population by age, which should show a nice balanced bell curve. If this is not so, and it is skewed to the left, you have too many youngsters, and to the right means an aging population that may die out on you. Education by age will show you how smart your Sims are, at what age. If they are rather stupid on the left, then you may need more schools.

Look at all the displays and graphs regularly, including the main horizontal bars that show the basic conditions in the game.

Hey thanks...so i took your advice. It was working and then the things started to appear again. http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1250/yalchafeb24241314231989.png that is a picture of the changes I made. Now the commute times are really high and im overwhelmed with what to do. Could you perhaps tell me how to take a picture with those graphs up so that I can provide you with better ways to anaylze my situation. All my industry is in a different map btw and do you really need farms? the demand never seems to go away!
