Not Happy

So I finally got started on my region today. So first off I was trying to get some semblance of the way the real roads run in this area I am working in and grosely failed due to the limits of the angles of roads. I could live with that but then when I got in and started working on a small town area I had more trouble. Spent 20 minutes doing up a nice little pond area only to find out that most of the edges would get wiped out when I lay a building zone 2 squares away. That was annoying to say the least. But I got over it. So then I start playing with the roads. I had a regular "road" intersection that I was centering the town on and then I ran a couple local streets off those, everything cool. Then I did some agricultural areas and wanted to do some of PEG's dirt roads. Well they look great but as soon as I dropped one it converted my connecting street to dirt. No matter what I tried to do I could not get my street back the dirt road kept taking over my streets like some sort of viral infection. I was getting seriously steamed now and decided to just leave all the dirt roads for a few and come back to it later. I figured I would get some water onto the scene and put in a water tower. I then tried to lay my first water pipe and dragged it across a couple of the farms and the dirt roads and.........WTF...crash. Lost everything.

Wonderful.

One of the reasons I stopped playing this game long ago was that I got tired of losing progress to desktop crashes. I thought the steam version was supposed to be better. I am sure it has something to do with the mods but jeez so far the whole modding process just seems like a big dissappointment. Everything I used failed in some way. I completely stayed away from it for a week because of the stupid road debacle.

Not very happy right now.

Okay, lets try to solve some of these problems and make you happy again...lol

and grosely failed due to the limits of the angles of roads.

Have you tried the FAR that comes with the NAM?

Well they look great but as soon as I dropped one it converted my connecting street to dirt.

What I usually do, is lay down the SAM street first, then when I want to connect that to a Maxis street, drag a one tile section of road from the end of the SAM street and then connect that to the Maxis Street.

To stop the crashing, try saving frequently by pressing Ctrl+S. It seems to reduce the possibility of a crash. Also try placing one or both of the following at the end of your Simcity shortcut target:

CPU-Count:1

EH:off

EDIT: You might also want to download this.

Good luck!!!

Are you using a downloaded pond set or using the game water? Placing zones might be changing the terrain to make it suitable for the lots to grow.

Are you using the Peg roads included in the Street Addon Mod (SAM). If so, you might try these.

Yup, you need the SAM stopper.

Also, I used to get crashes all the time with my dual-core processor. I changed the game to run on 1 core by tagging on "-CPUCount:1" to my shortcut target (without the quotation marks). No CTD's since, except for the preventable ones involving hovering over transit-enabled lots. Apparently it doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me.

The Steam version is just SC4 Deluxe with the patches installed - exactly what you could have gotten years ago.
