The UK doesn't have a constitution yet it is the cradle of freedom. We didn't have one until 1982 when several old acts and laws were consolidated into a single document. This reference opens The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but click on the big 1 in the title to get to the meat of the issue. There are a lot of schedules noting what acts have been replaced and amended by this one..

Whether a nation needs a constitution is moot. Precedent, as in the UK, can also set the rules. A constitution is a statute, and statute in our legal systems overrides precedent.

For some reason, I thought that the UK was a constitutional monarchy because if the Magna Carta?

--Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Correct, but the UK's legal system is very different then for example the legal systems of mainland Europe, which are almost all constitution based.

Magna Carta is just another legal precedent. Probably one of the earliest. However, all it did was limit the power of the King to make war on the Barons.
