Interesting! I bet that at least half of the money this site gets is for maintenance...but how old are those facts? It says that the server is located in Canada and as far as I've heard it has been relocated to somewhere in the states recently...

@De Ja Vu: According to the Google Maps pic coming with the description, the server is situated in West Dallas, TX; so I guess this data is pretty recent seems that data is updated daily.

EDIT: OK, don't know what to think because now this website doesn't load...

Actually, last night when I checked, it said the server was in Ontario or wherever it was before so this was just updated overnight. The last time it was updated was 2 months ago. It appears Simtropolis has lost money and daily visits.

Something tells me that information lacks accuracy. For one thing, it's quite inconsistent from day to day.

Last I checked this site was still Canadian, but Geotool (Firefox plugin) is telling me it's in Dallas too. Might just be a Google error. The site was down for hours when it moved to Toronto, someone would have noticed it being down long enough to move internationally. There would at least be a news item on the front page.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Might be because the site is behind cloudflare, my site's IP changed when I enabled cloudflare, also when the site was first back flagfox said it was in Losangeles.

Geotool (FlagFox) puts it correctly in Dallas. So does the other site now, so someone must have jerked their chain.

So what? Facebook is worth $52billion and I doubt it's the sale of facebook credits to boost your (profpanity here)-farm or the few bucks for advertising that makes it worth such peanuts.

and it can't be the rating either as google is rated pole position but falls some $20billion behind.

BTW, these seem to by highly dynamic figures, as of right now, simtropolis is only worth $33k and ranks somewhere in the 85000s with about 7000 visitors daily.

In fact, I doubt the monetary figures do represent anything else than a completely theoretical value based on possible traffic

@ Schulmanator : Your site is only worth $167? Something is wrong with the world. ;)

I guess that this Wikipedia article [here] will bring more light on that website worth thing; technically known as Domain name appraisal.

Seems that this quote is the one that sums everything up:

Some appraisals take into consideration current traffic to the domain's web site, search engine placement of pages on the web site, but this is of interest primarily to those who might wish to use the domain for advertising placement.
