Jobs in Architectural Visualization?

There are some architects here and im sure maybe one or two people that do what I want to do so i thought id give a try posting this here.

I'm in school for computer animation right now and my demo reel is not that great from what I heard there is no way I would ever get a job anywhere with it because ive been trying alot of different things.

Everyone says that you need to focus on one specific thing, and I think I'm the best at architecture. So are there jobs in the Architectural Visualization Industry? If so what kind of stuff are they looking for on a good demo reel?

I'm only looking for serious suggestions only. Anything i make probably wont end up in SC4 unless i take the extra time to do it. So that being said this will not be a place where you can make BAT requests. I'm looking for serious advice, any help at all that could get me a job one day.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have yet to talk to a real person about my portfolio work (all done over the tubes these days), so I can't really give any institutional advice. Logic would value flexibility in what you are doing, however if there something you are truly passionate about, pursue it.

I don't go to any school in architecture, but I did do technical drawing during my freshman year in High School. Sometimes I carry an old notebook and I draw architectural concepts in it (considering I also bring a steel ruler).

@xyloxadoria: Architecture is a cross between fine art and engineering. You need some serious scientific training as well as knowledge of the rules in the political world. If your school has a school of architecture, why not take a couple of introductory courses for credit?

Architecture depends primarily on 3 things:

1. Function

2. Price

3. Beauty

The function depends on the location and needs of those at the location and those in charge.

The price that matters is not necessarily monetary.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Doing architectural visualization for yourself is about beauty and the only way to make money on it without education in architecture is by selling it as works of art, which is usually less profitable than working for a firm.

For instance, I love architecture and have sketched a couple pieces and done pixel art on original pieces. My original work is to please myself and my idea of beauty is the crystal spire. Every architectural piece I uploaded to the Internet is what I call avant-garde mixing of modern and antique styles but TV Tropes would call "Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot."

I have a friend studying to be an architect and I can tell you it is hard work to go through the education.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I was thinking of posting about architecture school. Should I do it here, or make a totally new thread? I am currently enrolled in a B ARCH program, and I have a lot to say about it...lol

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.
