    Wallasey: Thanks, I'm using Paint Shop Pro 5 since I don't have photoshop.

                                                                               Chapter 1

                                            Friday Night

    Told in the first person.

    <ahttp://img390.imageshack.us/img390/5185/night01b3qk.jpg align=baseline>

        It was just before nine in the evening when I left the Pot of Gold Pub in downtown Bayview after a night of partying. Our local team had beat the New Rotterdam Rams in a match of football (european) live on the small, black and white television in the bar. The match was one of the best I've ever seen and the celebration was as great as the defeat itself. The sound of yells and hooting were still in the back of mind as I passed the local church in the city square which was as still as the blue, evening sky.

        As I walked into the suburbs of Farely, I could see children just arriving home after a summer evening of sports and play. The parents letting them in with the your late expression clearly on their faces. Some older teenagers were still out and about, roaming the ever darkening streets, looking for something to do in an attempt to escape the troubles back home. People were still walking their dogs when I got to my home on Newark Avenue, I would check to make sure they wouldn't make some music on my front lawn.

    <ahttp://img391.imageshack.us/img391/7104/night020311245688215vd.jpg align=baseline>

        I opened the door to a pitch black house. At first I was startled at this discovery. Then I rembered that she was on a trip to San Andreas for business purposes. I always worried at the thoughts of my wife in the big city, mugging, murder, accidents, even the remote chance of a terrorist attack. I began to shake with fear just thinking of what could happen.

        I quickly shrugged off that thought and turned on the TV. I switched over to the San Tierro News Network to see if there were any developments going on in San Tierro. After a few stories about the economy and the Bayview victory over New Rotterdam, there was a development about a mysterious lightning storm in the Durham Inlet. It was worrying because it was the town just a half hour west of Bayview were the waters from the ocean come into the bay.

        There were reports of a massive storm and an uncomfirmed report of a large impact in the hills outside the town. After the impact, all comunication with the area was down. No cars were seen coming down the 120 highway from the Durham Inlet since and they believe that there may have been a tornado or a blackout.

    <ahttp://img397.imageshack.us/img397/4761/sanrafaelbreaking246660511jx.jpg align=baseline>

        When I looked out the window in the direction of Durham, the lighted sky that was frequent above the hills was no longer there. I stared at it for a long while before the mumbling of the television got my attention again. I turned it off and dismissed my fears before I went to bed for the night.

    Traffic_Jam, Jerebannus XVI, simster6: Thank you for the comments.

    Decola: Sorry 'bout that, didn't know you had the same idea.

    Es32489, sirgeoj2: Thats my One London Place which is in the STEX.

    Casper: Actually it wasn't really the movie that made me want to do this, it was the book. I just thought it would be a good idea for a CJ and nobody had really done this before.

    Update coming soon.

                Chapter 2

               The Landing of

                                                 The Machine

    <ahttp://img396.imageshack.us/img396/1315/bayviemorn1wfeb2ac.jpg align=baseline>

        After a long, restless night I awoke to the orange glow of the rising sun. I looked out the window to see it rising over the buildings and highrises of downtown, leaving the buildings pure black from where I was standing. I closed the blinds when the sun came over the roofs and blinded me. I then proceeded to go outside to get the paper.

        The air was nice and cool, a relief from the humidity that came earlier this week. The front headline read: Victory Never Tasted so Sweet! I skipped the cover story to read about the mysterious outage in the Durham Inlet, and found that there was no new imformation. Communication was still unavailable to the town and region.

        It was just past noon when I heard some commotion outside. I rushed quickly to the front door and swung it open. Groups of people were gathered around, staring towards the bay. At first I though of it to a fire of some sort. I then noticed the blackening clouds that were over the bay. They were of the likes that I have never seen. They would pulcate like a star and move like the waves of an ocean. Occasionally a bolt of lightning could be seen as well as the rumble of thunder.

        I turned to my neighbour Sue to ask her about the storm. All she replied was: I'm as confused as you are. She continued to stare at the clouds, which kept on darkening and moving closer with ever passing second. The wind gusted every once and again, the streetlights swayed with the gusts and leaves, small branches flew down the road and into our faces. More and more lightning came present, traveling from cloud to cloud above our heads. We still stood silent, waiting for something to occur.

        <ahttp://img387.imageshack.us/img387/3845/bayvielightfeb9it.jpg align=baseline>

        Suddenly, all was quiet. The air stood completly still and the wind turned calm. The lightning had stopped and the thunder was no more. The clouds still moved though, in the same wavey, whirly motion as before. One neighbour ran to their home and went inside with a loud slam of the door. Others still watched with anticipation of what will come next. Another man got out of his car which was in front of me.
        Then a loud rumbling noise could be heard over the quiet. To the southeast, a bright light came flying through the clouds like a meteor. It went by to the south of us and went straight for downtown. People begain to run back to their houses and down the street screams could be heard as people rushed off the avenue and onto my street. A train then screeched to a halt right behind us and stopped with a sudden lurching noise. All the lights went out down the street and you could see the downtown skyline go dark just after.
        The light then dissappeared behind the Thompson Insurance Building before a bright explosion came out of the town square. A second later the loud, horrible boom hit us like a shockwave. More people ran away while others like myself just couldn't stop looking.

    <ahttp://img394.imageshack.us/img394/1315/bayviewfirstdet7hx.jpg align=baseline>

    The explosion was as tall as the church beside it and as wide as two city blocks. The cloud rose up high into the dark sky and the fireball dissappeared with it. Chaos was abound as everyone went into a panic, others triedd to start up their cars but they were unsuccessful in the attempt. All power was out and cars, buses, trains wouldn't work.  It was like an EMS Storm had hit, and my attention went to the train behind me.
        To be continued..

                Chapter 3

         The Destruction of

                                                 Bayview

        The Train that was stopped behind my house was now full of noise and commotion. People were yelling for help and banging on the windows. When the outage occured, the train had completely lost power, including the power to open the side doors. One window was smashed right open with the impact of a hammer. Neighbours rushed up the side of the embankment to their rescue. The poor passengers were getting hot and restless in the train.
        I decided to head downtown to maybe lend a hand to whoever was in trouble where the impact was located. I quickly ran to my shed and took my bike out in a hurry and rode out into my street and swerved around the scores of people out in the street.  The sky was clear of the dark clouds but was now grey and the sun was just barely poking throughoverhead. On the way I saw cars with the hood open and men and women hopelessly trying to fix whatever had happened to their vehicles. I rode down to Yonge St. and turned west onto Main. Up ahead, three blocks, was the impact.
        When I reached it, many shop owners, curious citizens like myself and others were gathered around.  The impact took up all of the city square and the statue of our mayor was nowhere to be seen. Some smoke rising out of the crator and there was something down there, but we couldn't tell what.
    <ahttp://img398.imageshack.us/img398/7808/bayviewdsssfeb7ou.jpg align=baseline>

        Police arrived at the scene seconds after me. They were pushing people back from the impact and one man was beat on the head with the club when he tried to jump into the crator. Stay back! Come on now, stay back! yelled the police officer to the front of me. Now the crowd was growing larger with curious people trying to get a look at the impact.
        I pushed my way to the north of the crator, and joined the group of people gathered around there. When I got there, I could see that there was three large gatherings of people around the crator. One was to the West of the square, where Main meets Highbury. Another was to the East and South of the crator. We were the group to the north on Wellington Ave.
        The mumbing of the crowd ceased when a rumble could be felt. Did ya feel that?, asked a local barber. Then another very large thunder of the ground could not only be felt, but heard. What the
    f--- was that? a man asked, shakely. Then a massive rumble shook everything in sight and people fled the crator as it grew larger and larger. Massive cracks started to sprout from the impact and run through the roads and sidewalks underneath out feet. A storefront to my left heaved, then the window exploded in glass shards. Another shop across the street collapsed as people panicked and ran around, trying to get away from the faults that were forming in the ground.
        A car fell a whole two feet into the widening fault near us and a lampost fell onto another. More store fronts collapsed and explode. Some people began to fall onto the pavement as the cracks grew even bigger.
        Just seconds later all became quiet. An eerie calm came over us and the panic of the crowd stopped dead. We were all crouched down ready to run from whatever would come next, but nothing happened. Then a buse was thrown from the crator. The people hiding behing a car to my right saw the bus come flying down towards them. The stood for a moment before running away as the bus crushed the car beside me in a massive crash of glass and steel.
        Then, it came. A massive mechanical thing started to rise up, slowly, from the crator. I started to crawl away to the next vehicle in sight. As I watched, it stood up almost nearly 100 feet in the air. It was a blueish-grey in colour with some purple sponts on its metallic skin. It appeared to have one eye which looked around at its surroundings. It moved slowly forward and looked at the crowds of stunned people.

    <ahttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/8268/bayviewfoppeb8fe.jpg align=baseline>

        A large humming noise came to my ear. People began to back away from the thing and some just hurried away down the street. I walked away, not taking my eye off it, as far as I thought was safe. Then a bright green light started to glow from the monster. Now the crowd ran away in a full out panic and chaos. People hid in cars and stores, most just kept on running away.
        Thats when the heat ray came upon us. It looked like a bolt of lightning and was a bright green. The heat ray stuck behind then ran up the street besides me. A man was running to a car when it hit him. Immediately, he exploded in a cloud of ash, his clothes didin't. They flew up in the air and rained down onto the street. I almost stopped dead in my tracks at the horrifying image. The ray kept going down the road ahead of me, hitting scores of people in spectacular puffs of ash and clothes.

    <ahttp://img363.imageshack.us/img363/630/bayvpdmoifiewfeb2eo.jpg align=baseline>

    I ran in a frenzy, my instinct to survive kicked in and I kept on going. I looked around at store fronts, full of people, exploding in a large bright cloud of debris. More men and women were running around in all directions, but manys attempts were unseccessful. They kept exploding near me, one person was in their car, trying to start it. The heat ray struck the car and the person blew up in the car as the vehicle was torn apart in half. A stoplight ahead of me collapsed onto two people, a store collapsed in a fire ball onto another group of four to five people. The heat ray continued to strike random people trying to dodge it. Clothes rained down on us like a winter snowfall and a pair of shoes hit my back.
        I rushed around the corner onto Mansfield Ave. to catch my breath. The hit ray just missed me and hit the women who was in front of me. Her ash flew onto my face but I just kept going till I was safe.
        I stopped as well as the heat ray. I could see the monster in the reflection of a cars window. It was just standing were the impact was. What the hell is that thing! the terrified teenage man beside me procliamed. I didn't answer, I just stood there, breathing heavily. The machine then walked forward up the street. We did not dare move as it walked right past us and stopped there.
        It looked up and as I did I realized what it was going to do. The building dehind me was the city's tallest building, One Bayview Place. There were still people in the building looking out their office windows. The monster stood there for about a minute before I heard the horrible humming noise. Then it brought the heat ray upon the all-glass building.

    <ahttp://img276.imageshack.us/img276/3013/bayviewonelondonex8fr.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttp://img276.imageshack.us/img276/7681/bayview1londnfer1bp.jpg align=baseline>

        The explosion was huge, and the middle section was completely destroyed. Debris rained on the street, thankfully we were one block away from the building. The heat ray dissapeared shortly after that and the machine was still staring up at the building. It walked away when a large grinding noise filled the air. The top ten floors, which were still intact, were lurching forward slowly. I couldn't keep my eyes of the site of a large, glass building falling towards us.

    <ahttp://img320.imageshack.us/img320/8624/bayvlondoniewfeb6zv.jpg align=baseline>

        As the buiding fell, the people across the street from the building begain to run south down the street, away from the collapsing tower. We could see people falling through the upper floor windows of the building when it fell straight forward. They screamed as they fell to the ground twenty+ floors below them. The noise was horrible, screams, cries, crashing, cracking, lurching sounds were all mixed together as the building hit the roof of the building where the people had been previously standing under. The walls of that building crashed outwards onto the street as the section of building hit its roof. It collapsed right through all the floors and scattered across the street in glass, steel and whatever was in the building. An office desk hit the truck in front of us and a computer hit the sidewalk nearby.
        When the office supplies stopped raining on the street, we ran across Mansfield Ave. to the west. We could see the heat come down on the people three blocks over. My thoughts went to warning my friend in Farely. I ran eastward, away from the machine to unsuspecting suburbs of East Bayview.

                Chapter 4

            Fleeing Bayview

        When I arrived at Dan's house, there were many groups of people gathered around. Many had seen the collapse of One Bayview Place but only a few had seen the monster. It was hard to see the machine in the haze that was hung over downtown and the monster was only a hundred feet tall compared to the tallest buildings which were three times the height. We were too far away to see it.
        The handful of people who saw the monster, were trying to warn others, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Most wouldn't believe it and dismissed the people as lunatics or crazy. I just focused on reaching Dan who was outside talking to his neighbour, Mike. When I reached him, he was talking about what may have caused the tower to collapse.
        Oh, Matt. What brings you here? replied Dan in a surprise. I couldn't believe how stupid of a question that was, when a disaster happens, it should not be a surprise when friends come over. I shrugged it off and got to the point. We have to leave, Dan., I said in a hurry. He stood there for a moment before answering back, What for? I ain't leaving here for whatever reason you've got!. For over a minute we argued back and forth. I tried to convince him to leave, but he refused. I told him of the monster, but he laughed at the notion of a machine destroying downtown.

        <ahttp://img350.imageshack.us/img350/3444/bayviewfrednshs1is.jpg align=baseline>

        I'm not leaving, and thats final! he yelled at me. He turned to Mike agian and I gave up on him. I decided if he wants to die, than be it. I continued on towards my home three blocks away. On the way I could see people leaving their homes with food and other materials. These people were evacuating the city but many others decided to stay in their homes. I felt that I was the only man that survived the massacre downtown. I know that most that were there with me when it happened were dead. Most killed right beside me, others would be incinerated later when the monster headed to West Bayview.
        I got home at roughly two in the afternoon (i didn't know the exact time) to see my neighbours out and about. I ran up the steps and opened my unlocked door. I decided to leave town in the next half hour, since I believed thats all the time that was left before the heat ray would come over Farely. I rushed around the house, shakely gathering things like food, water and flashlights. Occasionally I would drop objects on the floor in the haste that I was in to get out of my home as soon as possible. A huge pile of papers fell to the floor, a keyboard crashed to the floor of my desk, but I didn't care. It was difficult enough trying to navigate the house when the electricity was out. But in 5 minutes, I was out.

        <ahttp://img350.imageshack.us/img350/2747/bayviguserewjan4go.jpg align=baseline>

        I walked to my shed to pull out my mountain bike. I had lost my normal bike in the panic downtown in which it probably got destroyed or maybe someone had found it, whcih would be the best turn-out. I pulled out my silver and blue mountain bike and brushed some dust off of the handle bars. I turned and rode out through the gate and swung on out to the street. I paused to look at the train that was still stopped on the tracks. They had broken the side dorrs and were helping the passengers out. Some were coming down the embankment into our backyards, others stayed on the tracks and helped the rescue.
        A young man, only about 18 years of age came running out of my backyard and started yelling and screaming. I first I was stunned at this crazy person coming out and screaming. Then I heard what he was yelling. Its coming! Its coming! Get the hell out!. he yelled at the top of his lungs. I knew exactly what was happening. Get on!, I told the man who was stumpling towards me.
        Then the screams of the passengers and resuers on the tracks filled the air. Down the street, about two blocks, people were running towards us. Then a loud, horrifying sound was heard. The monster, whcih was out of sight, was making a calling-like noise. The people on the tracks were scrambling to run the embankment, others couldn't even move with terror. The passengers started to panic on the train and some pushed their way out the doors. Many were trampled in the train.
        Then I pedeled the bike as fast as I could, the man was now sitting on my bike with me. My muscles burned but I kept peddling faster and faster. I looked back to see the monster a few blocks away. When I turned the corner heading south towards Main, the heat ray struck the railway embankment. People were running away from the explosion, heading in the same direction as me. I got ahead of them, but the poor souls who were on my street could not get away quick enough.
        The heat ray launched the train cars, as well as the people who were standing there, up in the air nearly 50 feet. The tracks also twisted up high in the air before falling down on the row of homes below. The train cars summersalted in the air befor crashing onto the row of homes, including mine. My house was hit with a passenger car. It crashed through the roof, then the front wall of my home fell forward and crashed onto the street. Other houses suffered the same fate, including the people who had decided to stay in their houses for protection. People who were on the embankment, flew through the air and hit the street below. Some landed on the roofs of houses across the street.

    <ahttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/6905/bayviewtranm48vw.jpg align=baseline>

    The people fleeing on foot were hit with debris, almost everbody on my street was killed by the falling embankment and trains. The heat ray hit the homes behind me and the firery splinters scattered across the road. I turned the corner onto Main, and headed East out of town. Main St. turns into Route 9. The avenue takes me to the town of Benlty, which is across the steep hills and the small bay which sticks out of the Stimson Bay.
        Hopefully, the town is still there. How I hope so.
