Essential SimCity 4 Mods

Hey, guys, I have a question.

My old computer with SimCity 4 installed on it recently broke (the hard drive got fried), taking away all the multiple downloads I had done of mods and whatnot. I have since gotten a new computer and installed SimCity on it. The problem is, I forgot which mods I used besides NAM, and even then I wasn't sure which mods I was getting . I've browsed the exchange, but there are so many different choices that I don't know what to pick. I'd appreciate it if someone could point me out to mods and texture packs generally considered "essential," and maybe some of their favorite other mods as well. Thanks in advance.

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place, it's my first post)

*edit*

Ugh, sorry, I realize I should have posted this under Modding. My apologies.

Actually, this is the right thread. The modding thread is for builders.

I think the last reply covered the delight of the poster. It really depends on what you want to do in the game.

After the NAM, and the fixes, it is yours to choose depending on your playing style. Even the NAM is optional, but if you have the NAM, you should probably also take some of the NAM extensions.

If you want dirt roads for your farms and industrial parks, you need the SAM. SAM also contains fancy street textures for your sub-divisions. You also might want to look for the SAM stopper, which puts a terminal on a SAM texture's spread.

Extra wide avenues and one way roads are in the NWM.

For really nice looking highways, with some serious detail engineering work, you may very well want the RHW.

And you should look at other NAM related stuff like HSRP and RTMT.

All of this stuff changes the fundamentals of the game quite a bit, so you should absorb it slowly, testing and playing with one addition at a time.

With other mods, you should build slowly towards your creative goal or goals. One at a time, testing with each add. Do not, repeat not, shot gun many plugins. You will eventually regret it. Not everything dances with everything else.

And now is the time to start practicing safe computing. You should back up your user folder (C:\..\..\Documents\SimCity 4) at least once a week. This gives you a checkpoint and restore point for your regions and plugins. Use an external medium such as a DVD-RW. Simplest thing is to compress the whole folder onto the media.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. That gives me a good starting point to modifying the game.

I would also recommend for you:

    - Some important game bug fixes ("Crime doesn't Pay", "Opera House Fix")

I can find a mod named "Opera House Fix":

    https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/21342-opera-house-fix/

but when I search the STEX for "Crime doesn't Pay", nothing which is returned looks like this mod.

Do you have a link for "Crime doesn't Pay"? Are there other essential game bug fixes?

I think you mean this one: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/21339-crime-doesnt-pay/

I didn't use it until now but it sounds nice. Maybe it's a way to get my airport free of crime. I will test this mod too.
