I have dl a lot of buildings in the past weeks and had never checked if the lights work. Well I tried and none of them worked so I decided to get the updates. As far as I know I have downloaded everything I need. I know this because on the highway light towers they need the updates to work as far as I remember. So here are a few problems I am having the buildings created by nycc06 don’t light up and several NDEX buildings, and several others that I have dl . I think I have all the dependencies that I need, any idea what maybe causing the problem. Any help will do as I am trying to figure out what is the problem.

Sorry if this should have been in the technical issues forum.

Do any of your custom buildings light up? Not all downloads were made to be lit at night.

Otherwise, if you think you have correctly applied the SC4Update4BAT game patch, then the first thing to check is the game's exe file to see if the update was applied. It should be in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps folder (for WinXp). If you have, indeed, applied all game updates, it should have a version number of 1.1.640.0. If it is not, then the patch was not applied correctly. If you do have some other number, you might post it here so we know what you have and can go from there. You might also check the Nightlights and Updates section of this post (Link) for more information.

Mine don't light up either, many of these building downloads at nighttime look very fabulous at night, but I really wish they will light up at night in the game.:golly:

This is a technical thread, and we need the details of any machines when you ask questions here. Look at the pinned threads at the beginning. If Capt. City's response doesn't give you what you need, ask again with more detail. We can't guess about your machine nor what version you have of the game. One note, however, you must be running either Rush Hour or Deluxe for any of this to work at all.

Give thanks that you have Deluxe, because you have got to do a reinstall. First do an uninstall and tell it to preserve your user files. Then if you are feeling paranoid (I would), copy your regions and plugins to the desktop, just in case.

I hope you downloaded the patches and have them in a folder somewhere, because that is the best way, so you don't have to bother with the net during this.

Now, just because you are in some kind of maintenance mode, clean out your recycle bin and run disk cleanup, then do a defrag. To make sure all is well, you could also schedule a chkdsk for the next boot. Cleanup + defrag may take a long time unless you do them regularly. Plan on a night out while this stuff runs. Watching it is like watching paint dry. When it is all done, do a boot.

After all is cool, then do a reinstall and install EP1 then the BAT fix. If you didn't get your environment back after the install, recopy your desktop stuff back into the appropriate folder.

Good luck.

P.S. If you start the disk cleanup just before you go to class, it should be finished when you get back.

Thanks Moose! I took your advice, uninstalled, checked for registry errors, performed a disk cleanup, defragged, shutdown, restarted, reinstalled, applied both updates, and voila! I now have night lights!!! :thumb:

You are very welcome. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. How is spring in Scotland? Drop in to the official weather channel in CE and let us know.
