It's not just you. It won't work for me either. I either get a blank white page with a loading bar that never even begins to progress or a "this page is taking too long to load"-type error from my browser.

Same here. Don't know what's up yet (once I did manage to get a Joomla error to show up rather than just nothingness), but as soon as we do know, myself or another staffer will likely update the situation.

It is indeed back up. Some of the messages and behavior I was getting while refreshing seemed to indicate the server was being reset. Don't officially know what happened there, but it is definitely back.

Trying to load it. I think it is going to time out. They must be down for maintenance.

It is back up as of a minute ago, and appears to have been down for about the past 9 hours or so. There's been some server-related issues, which jeronij is working out with our webhost.

Been completely down for the past few hours. Really frustrating given I'm trying to set up a fresh install and the SC4 community has this ridiculous convention against packaging dependencies. You try downloading and installing a few thousand files manually when your source is on the fritz. Is it too much to ask for standard GNU GPL practice so people can make unofficial expansion distributions?

I just logged on, and it seems OK. I didn't try to get to the LEX.

@omnipiu: If you are doing a new installation, and it is your first, slow down and test each and every new plugin. You'll save yourself a lot of grief. You shouldn't be downloading many files at once, it is asking for troubling overload and maybe a messed up game. As someone earlier remarked, the exchanges are not on fire. They will be there for a long time. SC4Devotion seems to be having a server problem/upgrade at the moment, so be patient.

Why is it that whenever someone suggests that current practice is impractical, they get accused (indirectly) of being an ungrateful nub?

For the record, I've had SC4 since the release of Deluxe, SC2 & 3 before that, and have modded my game before. This isn't my first rodeo, just a new laptop after my hard disk bit the big one. I know full well all the reasons of customization, attribution, IP, updating, etc. for current practice. I have the utmost respect for those that offer up their time and craftsmanship.

I just happen to think that, if the goal is to keep the game alive, the amount of content and dependency (sometimes 3 or 4 deep) has gone way beyond what should be expected of the average player. Do we really gain anything from making everyone sort out this excessively complex web other that a holier/smarter than thou ego boost? I think we as players can get more out of offering up simplified, single install packages such that those without a broad technical understanding and a week of free time can enjoy what just the SC4 platform can become.

I'm not a modeler or SC4 code monkey, but I can put together stable combinations of plugins which form a playable extension to the game. I just wish I could share this with others.

    Omnipiu...

We have had quite a few new members lately, it is hard to gauge just how new/old a new member is...

I don't think you would find too many here that would disagree 8 years later some things could benefit from change.

... alas, there are the realities of the legal hoops we must jump through as a community to be able to share...9.gif

    Please accept my apology,

I will choose my words with better care in future posts. 43.gif

    Cheers

Thank you. Sometimes people forget (or don't know) that. We all have jobs, families, school, or other forms of real life. We need to balance our time. Sometimes people don't realize that.

Thank you for reminding them. We appreciate the support.

Why is it that whenever someone suggests that current practice is impractical, they get accused (indirectly) of being an ungrateful nub?

There is suggesting and then there is being unnecessarily cranky. Before you decide it is a "ridiculous convention", please read The Dependency Debate.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
