Why is it that whenever someone suggests that current practice is impractical, they get accused (indirectly) of being an ungrateful nub?
For the record, I've had SC4 since the release of Deluxe, SC2 & 3 before that, and have modded my game before. This isn't my first rodeo, just a new laptop after my hard disk bit the big one. I know full well all the reasons of customization, attribution, IP, updating, etc. for current practice. I have the utmost respect for those that offer up their time and craftsmanship.
I just happen to think that, if the goal is to keep the game alive, the amount of content and dependency (sometimes 3 or 4 deep) has gone way beyond what should be expected of the average player. Do we really gain anything from making everyone sort out this excessively complex web other that a holier/smarter than thou ego boost? I think we as players can get more out of offering up simplified, single install packages such that those without a broad technical understanding and a week of free time can enjoy what just the SC4 platform can become.
I'm not a modeler or SC4 code monkey, but I can put together stable combinations of plugins which form a playable extension to the game. I just wish I could share this with others.
