For your yacht club to become as accessible as possible wouldn't you need everyone to rate it a 10? That's wishful thinking on anyones part. Personally I think all your creations thus far have been 10's but not everyone has the same opinion and if they don't think its a 10 why should they rate it as so. People purposely trying to bury your creations is unjust but if someone takes a look at something you created and thinks to themselves well, it's just okay and then gives you a 10, then I believe the rating system becomes even more skewed. Besides you think your yacht club is beautiful and oneself is usually ones greatest critic. And people will find your yacht club, I did.....

Simgoober, thanks. It's a relief that you hear my points. I've experienced all kinds of sims download rating systems, the idea of subjective valuation is nothing new. I also recall a recent discussion here about how some have stopped to vote totally, because it has become almost meaningless to them. I can see their point...

I understand our valuation of our own work may not be how the market perceive it. You just never know, and I'm at peace with that. But OTOH, there is slight distortion, and there's room for extreme fluctuation. Initially the content producers may suffer, but eventually, the whole community withers. Not to say STEX will go down or something because of a few underatings; experience tells me that there will always be new artists who will serve their time. I just think that ST has so much potential and this is one area that it needs to reform urgently, as new uploads pour in. What you think?

Dear people,

I am shocked, and of course, saddened that my yacht club has reached non-blinking star status at one point - contradicting the overall positive response. In another stark contrast, this same BAT has steadily reached the top on SC4 within a day.

Despite the overwhelming amount of positive feedback, currently my yacht club, is incomprehensibly the worst rated GDV BAT on STEX. In fact, as it stands, it's buried deep at 9-10th page if you searched by highest rated BAT - at 80th place. And I'm giving up hope that it will climb back up to justified zone again...

This is not about scoring artistry points [subject stuff really], but, consistency. Forget about other's work: the humble debut GDV BAT - the toll gate, is on the 3rd page of Highest Rated BAT. But yacht club on 12th page? Hello? And this is if you choose 9 items per page at a time! In short, the yacht club's future on STEX = bleak.

I'll swallow the mediocre rank status if not for the super-glaring unexplainable gap between the voting result VS All Other Indicators. Verbal responses, download rate and speed, number of 99% positive comments, number of votes, all in the 'hyper-excited' region. But the ranking by votes result is? Non-blinking star zone and 80th Highest Rated BAT. It's like...a really bad case of schizophrenia. One of the above is true. I'm still waiting for someone to tell me this yacht club deserves to be 65 75 places behind my waterfront hotel.

I'm totally aware of how underated many BATters and MODders are. This is not abt perfect 10 glory or popularity, but the economy of sharing my hard work. I have labored long and hard on this baby which I know is a good piece of work, and would be wanted by many [as the download number/day ratio clearly indicated]. For the hours and sweat I put in, I wished for it to be enjoyed by as many SC players as possible. At the rate it's being downgraded, my rich net download experience tells me this baby will soon sink exponentially into oblivion [at least on STEX], due to the way STEX sorts and categorizes its files.

Sadly, the way the rating system works here is, every '9' will drag this BAT down furthur, and there was probably an 8 somewhere along the line. Whether this downgrading is done with ignorant kindness or maliciousness is no longer material: by this weekend, the yacht club's fate of being found by future STEX visitors will be sealed. Understandably, my joy of posting BATs is sinking fast...

Meanwhile, I leave it to the statistical experts to figure out the whys of this inconsistency... Thx for listening. I go cheer myself up!

I understand what you say Goldiva, I have a suggestion for it for admins to think about, but want to know what you think about it:
Instead of taking the mean why not using the median? It will give the  ones who like to give bad marks just for fun a bad kick! Explanation for those who doesn

my subway pack i released ages ago still got occasional comments added... hmmm how old is that? how far do you have to go down to find it?

dont worry about it. when ppl see your latest buildings in a month they'll search under your name to find more of your creations.

Don't give up!!! I love the yacht club and it's in every one of my waterfront communities. We need more of these kind of lots. With Pegs waterfront lots, you can have very beautiful waterfronts now and adding your yacht club was the perfect touch. Just know that all your hard work on that lot was much appreciated!!! I agree with frogface that with your next release, most people will click on your name to see what else you have. Keep up that great and hard work you are doing and looking forward to your next release!!

No, I do not expect 10/10 [see my yacht club download page for my comments about the impossible expectation for 10/10] Of course it is wishful, even stupid to expect 10/10. I may treasure my creation, but I'm not that dumb, vain, or naive. Nonetheless, I do not expect this yacht club BAT to be trashed as low as 75 ranks behind the waterfront hotel. I expect the ranking system to be kinda imperfect, not seriously absurd. Even then, I couldn't be bothered with 385th place or 6.75 vote, if it does not affect the chance of the yacht club from being discovered and downloaded in the future. But it does. This, is my main point, the one thing I care about. You may not believe it but not everyone is obsessed with scores. If you still don't get my point exactly, try hogmeister and simgoober's response. They got my point.

If you want your lots to get noticed, you should out a link to them in your signature. That way, newbies can find them easier. Like a mini lot exchange, only in your signature. You could have little pictures and stuff. Then you don't have to worry about ratings to keep it noticable. And forget ratings! The real number is those who have downloaded it. Some lots do have tens, but there may have only been a few downloads.

Edit: All your lots have 1500+ downloads and have 10 stars.  You will be the next PEG with all those downloads.

i wouldnt worry about ratings or anything, most of my lots have over 300 downloads each yet several have very few ratings... my least downloaded/viewed item is my small grain storage tower prop, it has (since Mar31) 77 downloads, 252 views, 1 rating and 1 comment
of course that is a prop and not a lot, my lowest lot has 195 DL, 388 views and 6 ratings, 11 comments and that was my last actual lot i put out... i do it for myself and no one else. i taught myself how to use the BAT with only a few questions here. once i release my pride and joy Apple HQ building i may be a bit more aprehensive about that but i know i did it and it is an excellent piece of work so thats all that matters.

Hey dolphin, you must like your cousins swimming in my hotel pool?  You waterfront estate is simply fabulous!

Waterfront real estate development has always been the big thing for me [and many long time SC fans]. Peg's waterfront stuff is truly excellent, and I'm glad to hear feedback that my stuff complements and not alienates existing popular custom works. I got a few new water lot ideas but shall experiment with ilive a bit before I confirm anything...

Yeah, mostly! you still have people here rating buildings lower simply because you didn't make a CO$$ building instead of a CO$$$ building...

 

I had one guy rate me low because the lot size wasn't the one he wanted...

 

There was talk of haveing BATT SQUAD members having more weight in the voting scheme, but really there is no solution to democracy lol...

 

best not to take them too seriously either way...but i prefer simtropolis mostly because i can download lots from work at ST, but i can't at simcity cuz i dont have the game installed here at work...and i dont have an internet connection at home right now...

Actually, despite the imperfection of the ranking system [without taking credit away from all the deserving stars like Peg CSX Brenda etc], I really like the Simtrop multi-entry multiple-drop-down menu approach. Overall it is a very well thought-out site. I used to think there were only two real simcity sites until February, can u believe it. Anyway, I've never been so active on a game download site I tell ya!

I got a long list of BATs [8 confirmed and 7 maybes] and the ideas are still popping out when i wake up in the morning. I'm going to be mysterious and tell you when I actually have a drawing to show. I also want to make sure that what I create/ release does not clash or is too similar to what other major BATters are working on. I like diversity... That said, I still give priority to what my city needs urgently. I need to go back to city-building sometimes!

Next Peg? Er that's too much to live up to...such amazing volume of quality work!

Goldiva, I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot. I don't believe you are obsessed with scores. I believe you what you want is visibilty on the exchange. With the amount of time and effort you put into your creations I couldn't agree more. However, some people do not agree and/or sabotage/trash your creations with poor ratings. I agree that is unfortunate. There should be a disclaimer stating that if you are going to rate someones creation then take into the consideration the creators artistic vision and time spent upon the creation. Unfortunately with the current rating system one trash vote can send you plummeting on the exchange. Perhaps a system for ratings should be implemented as such...

Say you have 20 ratings of the following for your creation---

10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,9,9,9,5,1

Obviously the 1 is a sabotage effort and the 5 is so-so...

The solution is to drop the say 20% of the ratings once you have recieved at least 20 ratings, with 10% of the highest and 10% of the lowest.

So now you have 16 ratings of---

10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,9,9,9 and then average for your overall rating.

This should eliminate fluke votes and give you a true average...my idea is based on how judges score in the olympics where the highest and lowest scores are thrown out and the remaining are averaged to give you your score. If this system were implemented I believe you would see your creations move higher on the exchange.

Anyways, keep up the good work, love what you have done thus far....

Um, that was what it was rated on April 20th. (I think)  Hmm, one of the mighty Administrators or GrampaAl heard your cries. It's one of the most rated and downloaded lots on the STEX.
