There was also a Rockman EXE anime in Japan, which has now finished its 8 season run and been replaced by a new series of short episodes based on the new Ryuusei (Star Force) series, just under 10 minutes each (including the intro, but not commercials). The first four seasons of the EXE anime were brought to America as "Megaman NT Warrior" (And butchered in the process, like most anime are when dubbed), and the some of the Ryuusei shorts were also brought over (better than NT Warrior, but still inferior to the Japanese versions).

I was such a huge fan of the old school Mega Man games, back in the NES days.  Too bad some of the later games never cut it for me.  The original NES games were, by far, the best in the series.

No, the 87 in my name is because I was born in 1987. and the Duke is from the video game character Duke Nukem.

It's the same screen name I use pretty much everywhere.

Since it goes back to times when my family was first connecting to the internet (such as around 1995), that was before I'd even heard of Megaman. And Duke Nukem 3D, then brand new, was my favorite video game.

Considering that this is probably the official ST megaman thread, that would make me the keeper of it. I have updated the list a bit. I own the Anniversary collection (GCN version, and with it have unlocked all but 2 things. If and when those things are ever unlocked, the status will become beaten.
I also have played through Megaman Battle Network, and besides having beaten it, I now have 167 out of the 175 battle chips. I am, of course, working on collecting them all. The ones I am missing are:
    -LeafSheild
    -ColorMan2
    -ColorMan3
    -SharkMan3
    -MagicMan3
    -ShadowMan2
    -Shadowman3
    -DreamAura
Since the dreamaura is earned from bass, it's always the last one you get. There is a 176th chip (Bass) but you can only get it either by winning it in an official Capcom or Nintendo contest (a la Mew in Pok

Well, thanks to my sister, my MegaMan battle network save game data got erased. And there go 80 hours of work... Currently The Terminator's sister is borrowing the game.

I did get the ColorMan3 chip before the data got erased, though.....

FYI, my sister is 10 years old.

Also, I can't post a picture of her for the same reason I can't post my picture. I'd love to, but my mom would kill me if I did. She doesn't want stuff like that on the internet for the entire world to see. She's paraniod that if we let people online know too much about ourselves, we'll get hacked or robbed or have our Identities stolen or something.....

On topic, capcom is making these PET toys. I saw a commercial for them just now. It looks like utter crap, honestly... It's stupid LCD toys where you can battle a CPU player. You can also buy battle chips and plug them into the thing to use them. To me, it looks like a pathetic this is junk but we'll sell a lot of it to collectors and people who don't know any better and make money Personally, if you want to battle CPU navis, get yourself a GBA SP and a copy of one of the actual games....

^^^Actually, I doubt that. That crazy plumber Mario has probably been in more games. Especially since it's not all the same megaman character. I believe some exposition is necessary:

    Original series:
    Megaman (1):
Dr. Thomas Xavier Light and Dr. Albert W. Wily created household robots Rock and Roll as a breakthrough. Rock was a lab assistant, and Roll was a housekeeper. Following their success, they continued and built six more robots with their own purposes. Cutman, a tree feller; Gutsman, a strong robot capable of lifting several tons, to be used in construction; Iceman, made to operate an antarctic facility; Bombman, for demolition; Fireman, for waste disposal by incineration; and Elecman, for running a Nuclear power plant. However, something happened and Dr. Wily Snapped and stole those six robots and reprogramed them. The robots in their domains started allying with them, and they started a wave of destruction to attempt to take over the world for Dr. Wily. Rock decided that he would fight them if Dr. Light could convert him into a Fighting robot. and so he did. And Rock was no more, he was now Megaman! Megaman then went and destroyed all the robots, eventually capturing Dr. Wily and having him thrown in Jail.
    Megaman 2:
Wily, being the sly fiend he is, escapes from his life sentence in prison (Megaman's world has no death penalty) and, bent on revenge like a madman, creates eight of his own new robots, the bosses you fight in Megaman 2: Bubble Man, Air Man, Quick Man, Wood Man, Heat Man, Flash Man, Crash Man, and Metal Man. Megaman defeats Wily again, but this time he escapes....
    Megaman 3:
Wily shows up back in Dr. Lights lab, tired of being evil. Being forgiving (and stupid), Dr. Light believes him and the two peacefully create eight more robots for working factories and mines: Top Man, Shadow Man, Spark Man, Magnet Man, Hard Man, Snake Man, Gemini Man, and Needle Man. Tgey then begin work on Gamma, a 50 foot tall giant robot supposed to keep peace in the world. But the eight final crystals they need for his completion are in the mines and factories guarded by the eight robots. And the robots have suddenly gone beserk. So Megaman, along with his new robotic dog, Rush, heads off to gather the crystals. Along the way, he encounters a red and gray robot that looks very similar to him, and even fights him four times throughout the game. Once Megaman gathers the last crystal, his teleporter starts behaving funny, and he has to return to four of the stages and fight Doc Robot eight times- each time imitating one of the bosses from Megaman 2. Just as Megaman Gets back to the lab, Dr. light is frantic. Wily has just grabbed the crystals and run off with gamma (surprise!22.gif). And megaman has to go off and kick Wily's ass again.... After Gamma Blows up, however, the explosion is large enough that Dr. Wily's Fortress starts collapsing. The Red and Gray Robot shows up and saves Megaman.. Wily, however, gets trapped under rubble and is assumed to be dead. We than find out that this Red and Gray Robot is Megaman's prototype, Protoman or Break Man. The reason Megaman and Roll had been built was because Protoman had disappeared...

More coming some other time, I've typed enough of this for now.

    continuing (sorry for the wait):

    Megaman 4:
A year after Megaman 3, a man named Dr. Cossack has built eight robots to try to take over the world, following in Dr. Wily's Footsteps. Once we fight Cossack, we learn the truth. It turns out that Dr. Wily (who somehow survived a giant block of concrete landing on him) kidnapped Dr. Cossack's daughter, Kalinka, and used her as a bargaining chip to make Cossack take over the world for him. Once Protoman fully realizes Wily is evil, he betrays him and Lets Kalinka go, and Megaman lets Dr. Cossack off and goes after Wily. Once Megaman defeats him, Dr. Wily flees, setting the self destruct sequence on his fortress, but megaman teleports out and rides home on the roof of the monorail.

    Megaman 5:
Dr. Light is kidnapped, supposedly by protoman, who now has eight robots to try to take over the world again.  Megman also gets the assistance of Beat, a robot bird created by Dr, Cossack and given to megaman to help him. Once we get to protoman however, we find out it's not him, But Dr. Wily's Darkman impersonating Protoman (the real Protoman shows up and blows his cover). Megman goes after Wily, defeats him, and escapes with Dr. Light before the fortress collapses.

    Megaman 6:
A robot master tournament is being held by a mysterious Mr. X. However, he turns on the public, steals the eight finalists, and sends them after megaman. Once Megman fights Mr. X, we find out that he is wily in disguise (yawn). Megman goes and defeats wily, but this time, he manages to capture him and put him in jail!

    Megaman 7:
6 months after Megaman 6, we find that Dr. Wily had a backup plan should he be captured. Four robots, hidden away, will, once they aren't contacted by Wily for 6 months, activate and begin searching for their master. And they break him out of prison. We also meat Bass and Treble, mysterious figures also trying to stop Dr. Wily (but don't really ever help you). After the 4 robots go down, Dr. Wily attacks the robot museum, and megman  must go defeat another clownlike robot. We also find out that Dr. Light has made enhancements for megaman and Rush which, once installed, will allow him to use rush indefinitely without draining power. Right beforewe fight the last robot master, we come across Bass and Trebble, badly damaged from their attempt at taking Shade Man down. Megaman sends them to Dr. Lights for repairs. Once Megaman gets home, he finds the lab in ruins. Once Bass' repairs were finished, he went beserk and stole the enhancements, making a mess on his way out. Then Dr. Wily's face shows up on the comm screen. Turns out that (as you might have predicted) bass and Treble are Wily's creations, and that wily knew that Megaman and Dr. Light would be stupid enough to trust them. Megaman has to fight Bass twice on his way to defeating Dr. Wily. Once wily's machine is  destroyed, Megman starts charging up his weapon, intending to kill Wily once and for all. But wily makes him hesitate by telling him that as a robot, he can't kill people. As he's about to fire the shot off, the fortress starts collapsing, and Bass shows up and saves wily, telling  megaman He who hesitates is lost. We shall return.

installment 3 hopefully will be less of a wait....

I know. That's done on purpose.

anyway, now that someone's made a post here, I can continue the story:

    Megaman 8:
When a mysterious meteor crashes on a tropical island, Dr Light sends megaman to check it out. Turns out there were two robots on the meteor. One, containing evil energy, is but a wreck, but the other has escaped, fully intact. Dr. Wily finds this evil energy to be a very efficient energy source for his robots, and foolishly starts using it. It turns out the other robot on the meteor was named Duo, and his sole purpose in existance is to rid the universe of this dark energy. He and megaman mistakenly get into a fight, but then Duo realizes megaman is after wily to stop him, not to steal the energy, and allows him to continue. Naturally, there has to be a big final battle. This time, howevwer wily's machine had so much dark energy that, when destroyed, it creates an explosion larger than any previous. Hours later, megaman is lying on the island where the meteor hit. Duo shows up, and suddenly realizes that the energy megaman runs on is very similar to the light energy that he uses, and is able to revive him. He leaves before megaman wakes up to find protoman standing in front of him. Protoman delivers a message from duo (the message was thank you). Megaman yells out thank you in return, and the game ends.

    Megaman and Bass:
A robot named King starts throwing out attacks on humans, claiming robots are superior. He steals some of Dr. Wily's designs and uses them for his 8 new robot masters (two of them were also in Megaman 8, thought they have different attack patterns, completely new stages, and you get different weapons from them this time around).
After king deals a crippling blow to Protoman, he leaves Megaman (or Bass) to fight the green devil, a weird jello-like robot. Once you come across king, you find that he's invincible because of his giant sheild. Eventually, Protoman shows up, and sets of a powerful shot, destroying the sheild, but recrippling himself in the process. Now, from here the storyline is different depending on whether you're playing as Megaman or Bass.

    Megaman:
After he initially defeats king, he convinces him that robots and humans should get along. But Wily shows up and increases the 'brainwash level' and makes king attack again. megaman defeats him again. After megaman defeats wily, he returns home, disappointed that he had to destroy King. However, he receives a letter in the mail. Apparently King somehow survived, and is off living peacefully.

    Bass:
After he defeats king, he learns that King was one of Wily's robots. Furious at being decieved, he goes off after his creator and destroys his machines. Once he proves his point, Wily is understandibly a little ticked. He shows off some plans for a King II, but Protoman shows up, destroys them, and teleports off. Wily yells at Bass for not trying to stop him. They continue squabbling....

    Megaman X1:
100 years into the future of the original series, a man named Dr. Cain unearths a strange capsule. Inside is a surprisingly advanced robot named Megaman X, Dr. Light's last creation. He is unique because unlike robots before him, he can actually think for himself, and experience a full range of emotions. He had to be kept in the capsule for at least 30 years to undergo a long set of ethical tests, making sure he wouldn't go crazy and start trying to take over the world. Since Dr. Light was too old to live to see this process complete, he had no choice but to bury the capsule and hoe that someday someone would find it. Dr. Cain opens the capsule and finds X to be an amazing creation. He also unearths another robot named Zero, who apparently has similar capabilities. Using the amazing designs, he starts mass producing other robots like them called 'Reploids'. However, he doesn't think to seal them all away like X and Zero, and Dr. Lights worst fears soon come true. A maverick virus develops, causing all reploids it infects to start going crazy and killing humans. An army of sane reploids is formed to combat them, the maverick hunters. Led by Dr. Cain's best creation, Sigma, they nearly supress all the mavericks. But, soon sigma catches the virus, and takes everyone except X and Zero with him, off to turn the earth into a Robot-ruled Utopia. X and Zero now have to take down thousands of powerful robots all by themselves. X gets captured By Vile, one of Sigma's top officers, and Zero has to show up and save him. After you defeat all the major mavericks, you go after sigma. On the way, you run into Vile again, who's captured Zero. Zero breaks free and delivers a huge cripling blow to Vile, making X able to defeat him. Unfortunately, in doing so, zero dies. X goes on and avenges' his friend's death by defeating Sigma himself (who considered him and zero to be traitors). X ends up in a state of depression. He had hoped to not have to fight, wanting to live in a peaceful world. But it looks like that won't happen anytime soon....

    Megaman X2:
A trio of reploids calling themselves the 'X hunters' show up with 8 new mavericks. It turns out that these X hunters have gathered Zero's remains in the hope of reactivating him evil. If you don't collect all his parts by defeating the X hunters, you end up having to fight him and destroy him all over again. If you do, Dr. Cain Reactivate's Zero, and he shows up to destroy Sigma's fake zero just in time. X defeats Sigma again.
    Megaman X3:
a reploid named Dr. Doppler creates an amazing device that can supress maverick behavior in anyone infected. He and several of all the cured robots go off and found Doppler Town, a peaceful utopian community. After a few months however, the robots start going crazy again under the command of Dr. Doppler, and attack Maverick hunter HQ. X gets captured in the process of clearing out the base by Mac, a former Meverick Hunter who's now with Doppler. Zero defeats Mac and frees X, who then goes on to finish clearing things out. After you defeat all the mavericks, X and Zero go after Dr. Doppler in his lab, and after he's defeated, he reveals that he'd made a giant battle body for Sigma, who'd been controlling him all along. After X manages to destroy the monstrosity (Sigma's line of I can't even defeat you with this magnificent body!? is priceless), and Sigma, in virus form escapes and chases after X, attempting to posess him. He eventually runs X into a dead end, and what happens next depends on whetehr or not Zero is still alive. If he's not, a battered Dr. Doppler shows up with an anti-virus program and supresses sigma. X escapes before the lab explodes. If Zero is alive, he'll show up and save you with the anti-virus program applied to his beam-saber. Both of them (just X if Zero is dead) are then standing on a cliff watching the burning remains of the fortress. More text scrolls by. there's a plothole-creating bit about how X's fate has already been decided. In order to save mankind, he must destroy Zero- even if Zero's already destroyed. Of course, Zero's in Megaman X4, so he somehow comes back from the dead anyway....
As a note, this game has some of the best music of any Megaman game I've played.

Mega Man is a huge serie, no doubt about that. Its also a great serie 1.gif
I see you have covered most (if not all) Mega Man games there is, but there was one thing i noticed.
You have written that Rockman Strategy was released in 2004. My sources say its released in 2001.

Rockman Strategy is very hard to find, maybe the hardest Mega Man game to find. Anyone have any idea where to acctualy buy this game?

Okay, well, having beaten Megaman Battle Network 5 Team Colonel friday night, and seeing as it's been a while, the list is updated.

The Ending to the game is absolutely awesome. The whole game is awesome, but the ending is even more so. However, it's one of those you gotta see it things. If I just describe it, it won't be as awesome as seeing it, and even just seeing it isn't enough, you have to have played the game up to the point of beating it yourself, and you really need some familiarity with the first 4 games in the series as well.

also, the liberation mission music is cool.10.gif

I loved MegaMan as a kid... they were my favorite NES games. I also had one for the Genesis (and Marvel vs Capcom for the DC, if that counts).

I'm tempted to buy the Anniversary Collection for the Xbox... do you reccomend it, Duke? I mean, how well are the games ported and how good are the games included?

Ah, this thread brings back memories. I started with Megaman 2 way, way back...

But I had no idea that there were so many Megaman games. Seriously, I don't think even Mario can beat that list.

Be interesting though if we could get a Mario fan in here to dispute this.

I think Megaman Legends was my favorite. I still enjoy it from time to time.

Would I reccomend the Anniversary Collection? Certainly.

The games all play pretty much exactly the same as their original counterparts, except Megaman 2 is automatically in Difficult mode (the original also had an easier normal' mode).

Megaman 7 and Megaman 8 are almost completely unaltered. The first 6 NES games have the energy meters upgraded graphicswise. The first three have the pause menu upgraded graphicwise. Also, you can put the first six games in easy mode. This removes some of the enemies that were in very annoying places, and makes the bosses a bit more vulnerable to their weakness weapons. There's a Navi Mode, you can turn on, which, in the six NES games, will activate Beat and Eddie pointing out some (usually obvious) routes, but also activate game hints. When you see an exclamation point come up, press start for hints. In Megaman and Megaman 6, Dr. Light Gives you hints. In Megaman 2, it's Roll. It;s Protoman in Megman 3, Kalinka in Megaman 4, and Dr. Cossack in Megaman 5. You can also chose to start with 0, 2, or 4 1-ups in reserve. This last setting affects all eight games.

Then there's Power Battle and Power Fighters, which must be unlocked. Originally coin-operated arcade games, they're now in Free Play, so you can continue as many times as you want, not limited by how many quarters you have.

As for which version to get, go ahead and get the Xbox version if you are comfortable with the Xbox. In the PS2 version, beating Astro Man in Megaman 8 unlocks the first episode of the old Megaman TV show. In the GCN version (which I have), it unlocks an interview with Keiji Inafune aka Inafking, the creator of Megaman. In the Xbox version it unlocks both.

One thing about the GCN version that most fans don't like is that A fires and B jumps, exactly the opposite of all the Megaman games released for NES and SNES.

    Hey Duke,

Perhaps you know the answer to this question.

In Megaman Legends 2, you have to pass a challenge to upgrade your digger's license. I could never upgrade one of them. Can't remember which one (I think it's class S), but it features a room where three robot critters make lots and lots of little robot critters.

Never could pass this one. And gamefaqs was no help. Did you do it?

Yeah, a bit off topic, but it's worth a shot. 9.gif

Hmm... sorry, no, I've never played any of the Legends series games, so I wouldn't know. However, the answer to you question is probably in here somewhere: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/game/197897.html
