R$$$ Without Jobs

I started off a city rather poorly, but I had an elementary school, health clinic, and fire and police. But, I haden't made a profity in sim years. There was average demand for a new city (under 20 sim years) and most of the industrial zones were filled with I-D. There was also a lot of empty space in commercial zones. I deleted the city, so I can't take pictures.

For some reason, though, R$$$ building began to appear. And very soon after, they had the no job zot, and later their wealth degraded. There was obviously no job for them, so why would they build?

The game was coded to continually upgrade the lots.  This was meant to be realistic.  The designers did go a bit overboard with the high wealth residential.  Unfortunately, they will quite often build before game conditions are quite right to support them, specifically, at 20-30% desirability, then abandon because of the very same low desirability.  So it is not so much a job issue, as a desirability issue.  This can be counteracted by raising high wealth taxes to discourage over development, but it is more like treating the symtoms instead of the disease.  I usually raise them a bit to keep all lots from becoming high wealth.  This mod<<< is also available; it prevents the R$$$ lots from growing until desirability is high enough, specifically 35-45%, to actually prevent them from growing, just to abandon after a few months.

Enjoy the game.

I guess that having those civic buildings rose desirability a lot, but they weren't funded well. I should have checked the desirability data view. Thanks for the mod, but before I install it, I'll change the taxes when I start the city and see how that works.

Don't be psyched out by the demand display.  A high-demand for R$ says nothing about the lots desired.  It just wants a lot of unskilled labor.  Where does unskilled labour live?  In tenements, of course, so zone high density lots close to the factories.

There's some mod on the STEX that raises R$$$ minimal desirability requirements, so they won't get abandoned upon completion.
