Coffee drinker, are you?  I sure am!  If the answer is yes, how do you take your coffee?  Whether it's espresso, from starbucks, french press, or *shrug* folgers autodrip 14.gif, hold that cup of coffee with pride!  Do you drink only the occasional cup or do you drink several pots everyday?  Whatever it is, go ahead and share...

How do I take my coffee?  Well, I happen to take my coffee pretty seriously.  I use nothing but roasted fresh to order whole bean coffee only from venders I trust (those who take the time to hand select their growers and crops and roast only in small batches).  I use a burr grinder to freshly grind my coffee everyday.

Next, the coffee goes into my french press, where I then pour 4oz of 200 degree F water per tablespoon of coffee.  Then, I wait one minute, stir, wait another 3 minutes, slowly push down the press, then pour my coffee into a liquid measuring glass.  I use this as a concentrate.  Each cup of coffee is 1/2 concentrate, 1/2 freshly boiled water.

I drink 2-3 large cups throughout the day.  I make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, so I don't end up dehydrated and tired.

If I happen to use a dark roast I drink it black.  If I use a lighter roast, I will add a bit of sugar and cream (just enough to mellow out any bitterness).

Hey, I love my coffee! 9.gif

We only need enjoy one day at a time.

I hardly drink it anymore. If I want caffeine I'll grab a Pepsi. But it is quite good and I occasionally have a cup or two. I prefer it with 2 creams and 2 sugars, but black is just fine as well.

I'm like the complete opposite of you hummer 3.gif When I was in college last year, I learned not to be picky about my coffee.  usually it came from the school's cafeteria, a watery coffee flavored substance, but if you put enough creamer and sugar in it, you couldn't really tell.

Obviously, frequent trips to Starbucks were in order.  My roommate also brewed coffee, and even made me a couple of large frappichinos

Now at home I usually drink whatever's left in the coffee pot by the time I get downstairs, which sometimes means I have to microwave it (yes! the horror) to get it warm.  My dad has a Senseo machine and sometimes makes me Senseo, but that is rare.  Reaper makes me virtual Senseo all the time9.gif

At church my friend brews coffee and asks me to drink it every Sunday morning, sans creamer or sugar, and I won't lie, it sucks. 9.gif but hey, what are friends for

I'm gonna go brew some coffee now.

I'm a coffe drinker, one cup in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evning during the colder months of year and one cup in the morning during the warmer months of the year.  Caffine doesn't affect me all that much and coffe has never made me dehydrated or tired, nor has it had that affect on anyone else that I know, so I sometimes wonder where that myth comes from.  I never waste money at Starbucks [why in God's green Earth would anyone pay those prices is beyond me], and if I have to get coffee when I'm outside at work in the winter, I get it for free where my wife works.2.gif  Normally I take my coffe with a bit of whole milk and some sugar, but if no milk or sugar is handy, I drink it straight.

I have an occasional espresso, usually with a shot of chocolate.

My thoughts exactly.

For some reason, coffee just tastes like it's burnt.   And I really don't understand how average people manage to spend a couple hundred dollars a month just on coffee.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. Ah, coffee.  Well, it depends on my mood.  I make coffee by the cup in my one-cup drip maker and I am likely to do things to it.

My base drink is hazelnut flavoured coffee, sweet and white.  However, I sometimes like my coffee with other things.  For example:

Middle Eastern Flavour Coffee

1 measure of coffee

1/8 tsp. (more or less to taste) ground cardamom

Place in filter, put water in tank, press the button and wait a couple of minutes.

Add 1 tbsp sugar.  Stir well, and enjoy.

You can also add ground coriander, either alone or with the cardamom.

At Christmas time I some times make coffee with a pinch of cloves, a couple of pinchers of cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. ground allspice.  You need to sweeten this to taste because it produces a very flavourful, but bitter brew.

I sometimes add a half-ounce of Scot's Whiskey (Ouisgbeatha) to my plain coffee.  Great sweetener.  I like straignt malts, usually Glen Fiddich.  {Glen Fiddich is what you find in the Governor General's Horse Guards Club in Toronto.}

Oh, I also drink tea.  Either Earl Grey (with bergamot) or Orange Pekoe with a slug of rum in it, Royal Navy style.

Isn't Turkey Middle Eastern and isn't Turkish coffee stronger than espresso? I love it! I drink it once every other month on average.

You'll notice I said Middle Eastern Flavor.  I don't make Turkish nor Arabian coffee because I don't like eating my coffee with a spoon.  They make it like sludge over there and usually with loaf sugar lumps to suck it through.

Getting low on my coffee supply, so I just ordered my next coffee shipment. Grand total: $38.93 with shipping. That bought me:

12oz - PITALITO ESTATES OF COLOMBIA - 12oz Vienna Roast

-A true show-stopper and one of our most popular, this beautiful Colombian coffee is built on a strong relationship with our producer and an even stronger commitment to excellence and quality. Colombian Pitalito Estates is an award-winning coffee noted for its winy fruit acidity and sugary sweet caramel finish. This meticulously graded Supremo is as consistent in its complexity as it is in its quality. Through gentle air-roasting, we are able to unlock a myriad of delicate flavors while helping to create a wonderfully smooth and full body.

    -Bean Profile:

    -Origin: Colombia; Huila Region

    -Farm/Farmer: Pitalito

    -Varietal: 70% Typica, 30% Caturra

    -Roast: Vienna, French, Italian

    -Processing: Fully Washed, Patio Dried

    -Elevation: 5500-6000 ft.

    40 SARDINES BLEND - 12oz Italian Roast

-This sweet and balanced blend is the result of a long and dedicated partnership with The Roasterie. An earthy and exotic aroma breaks into a mild acidity of dark ripe cherry and bittersweet cocoa. The rich nutty body can only be described as velvety smooth. 40 Sardines is one of our favorite and most accessible blends.

-Origin: Central America, South America, Indonesia, Africa

FULL VENGEANCE DARK BLEND - 12oz Italian Roast

-Remember the charred, bitter coffee beans sold to you as a "Dark Roast"? Take revenge by throwing those dry black beans in the trash and give your palate the dark roast it deserves. Full Vengeance has an invitingly sweet aroma. A berry-like wine flavor locks arms with a wonderfully fresh, earthy flavor. A lingering creamy finish makes each sip an experience worth repeating. Full Vengeance is a paradox of complex beautiful flavors roasted dark to embolden its strong and distinct flavor.

    -Origin: Columbia, Sumatra, Panama

That will probably last me 2 months, so $20/month for 2-3 amazing cups of coffee a day. MUCH cheaper and better than going to Starbucks.

You are clearly a coffee gourmet, and you have clearly been around and studied coffee tasting the way an oenologist studies wine.  Thanks for the review.

Wow, so many people hate coffee?  Well if your talking about the crap in those huge red containers with "Folgers" on the label, I'm with you on that one.  I seriously think going out back, grabbing some dirt, roasting and brewing that might actually taste better.  3.gif

That has to be one of the things I least look forward to when visiting the folks!  My dad is so proud of the 2lb "Folgers Gourmet Supreme Dark Roast" he picks up at Walmart for $10.  That lasts him a pretty long time, considering he waters it down quite a bit.  The best part of waking up has nothing to do with crappy, burnt, stale, and extremely over-extracted (and  thus very bitter) coffee...  47.gif

Some of us don't have the budget to buy fancy coffees, but what the heck?  I buy the best I can afford which happens to be a store blend (President's Choice), but you are right about Folget's being barn sweepings.  I can sometimes swing a packet of Van Houten's, who make nice flavored coffees.

When I was wealthy and working in a fancy consulting job, I was partial to Kona which I got from my favorite gourmet store where I also bought all of my spices and herbs.  They also ran a cheese counter where you could get really good cheeses like Boursault, as well as a catering service.

Now, retired on a minimal pension, one does what one must.  I would no more give up my morning coffee than give up my morning pass through this list.  However, I do take a cup of tea in the afternoons.  I like tea almost as much as I like coffee, so I guess I am a child of my generation, and the end of the War to End All Wars.

Of course I use a drip machine made by Black and Decker that makes one cup from drip grounds.  This has a permanent, washable filter, so I avoid the paper-filter taste.  Getting that filter clean is very important.  I've had a Brew 'n' Go for a long time.  In fact, I have two of them, but one has a bad filter, so I keep it for when the one I am using dies the death.

For company, I have a 10 cup drip machine which, unfortunately uses filter papers.  I have used it once in the last six months, when I was moving.

Espresso tastes better than coffee and if you get a good quality espresso, you can make it into mocha, cafe au latte, americano (which is watered down espresso, which is supposed to taste like coffee), or almost anything else. Espresso uses a permanent, washable metal filter so it never has that rank paper filter taste.

I have always believed that coffee beans were the basis of espresso.  Please correct me if I am in error.
