I recently have had this problem.

Usually disasters lower the mayor rating for me. That is my only thought. Also have you downloaded any mods by chance that have caused the problem?

Mayor rating is affected by several things.  The first is that you stay in the black.  If you are spending like a maniac and not making increments in your treasury, it will cause your rating to start dropping.

Next is keeping the Sims happy.  This generally means schools, fire protection, police protection, and health depots.  You also need a few parks, playgrounds and plazas as well as jobs, jobs, jobs.

I have a policy that dumps in certain parks.  Each high-school gets a soccer field.  Each large elementary gets a softballl fiield, and if I should happen to put in a large high-school (not very often) it gets both.  Private schools get a playing field of some sort, usually a soccer pitch.

Downtown areas get a plaza or a flower garden every coupld of blocks.  I only use the small ones for Mayor's statues and such.  I never place anything smaller than a medium park except as filler.

Industrial areas get an occasional plaza, or an area that is inaccessible to road (it happens), gets replaced by open grass areas and maybe small plazas.  I plant trees on the open grass areas.

If I am feeling that the Sims are unhappy, I sometimes do a custom park.  All you need to do is pick a couple of empty or reluctant-to-develop lots, and lay down a few open grass areas, and put trees on them.  An occasional gazebo helps, along with a ranger station near a playground.  Sometimes, if I have a dead space at a playground I add the skatebord park.

Generally, my mayor rating runs in the high 90's.  It is just a matter of not trying to make an packed megalopolis to the exclusion of some Sims comforts.

Maybe if you only have high tech jobs available your less educated sims don't have a place to work? Try dropping some rewards, check your pollution levels in your water, make sure your sims have proper routes to and from work. Also don't have your funding for police over 100% this can have an effect on your sims well being. Just trying to give you some ideas...I hope it helps.

I have this problem in one of my cities I think it’s another simcity bug. There are parks and recreational areas everywhere even dotted on the sides every square inch is covered which is also the problem you mentioned noony moose did touch on one thing that wasn’t obvious and that was not to make it a metropolis ie cramped with just offices or maybe I’m giving moose too much credit from an otherwise banal comment about the usual given idea of sims having their comforts. Here are my suggestions which I think is relevant:..

1 YOUR OPERA HOUSE!!! There is a definite bug with the OH & you have to bulldoze it & replace it with the one with the sliding educational slider as when a city becomes full like yours and mine & no doubt says the 3 stars when you view it from the regions view unlike other cities which will say 1 star nb no 2 stars or in between cities.. strange!! Anyway I checked mine & it was in the red! yours will be too.

2: secondly which moose didn’t query except for the obvious & that is I bet you haven’t got hardly any streets left have you? I bet they are all roads! That’s another thing that was dif from this city to others & that it was the only one will all roads no streets! sims hate traffic slights & congestions waiting for them! so either use the nam widener roads or bring back the streets around the residentials to quieten the noise.

3:  I also had to remove my convention centre & beaurocracy building as they are only good if you have a high mayor rating! I put churches, cemeteries parks recreational things & farmers markets & lost 2 red bars of negative mayor effect rating. So that works.

4: Another thing years ago I put in tram stations that went on the rail tracks now with nam they only go on roads & have noticed they are overcrowed now so I will have to remove them too.

5: Also I remember I did do something like remove something which caused another slider bug ever since & that may also be your problem but one thing’s for sure I can bet you your problem is one of my suggestions not mooses who usually offers the most obvious suggestions practically always. .

There has been great advice in this thread, so I will just try to add a little more to it. 4.gif

In general, other sources of local mayor rating impact are business deals and stadiums (check the sorroundings of them on the mayor rating data view). And other sources of city wide mayor rating decline are some landmarks and 2 or 3 of the ordinances.

And in particular, some screen shots of your city would be helpful (specially the city overview with and without the mayor rating data view active to see where are the conflictive areas of your city).
