Cities XL 2011 Verdict so far

Well, been playing for a couple of days, and compared to 2009, 2011 seems to be much easier to trade on.  The farm unlock comes much quicker.  I have less than 10000 pop and the merchant building is already available.  Overall there seems to be more cash quicker.  Omnicorp is a toothless tiger.  I don't dare go for high res graphics especially the particle system.  Instant crash, and corrupted saves.  About half of the American  house's won't build on water, what's up with that?  More later if anyone is interested.

Well they seem to have really backed off on the difficulty.  Working on the Three Valleys Map I'm just under 100,000.  All the unlocks come much quicker.  Have a least two of the oil bonus buildings and have actually had to unbuild two oil fields.  Stage 1 oil fields, no stage two or three at all.  I may have hit a bug.  Apparently trades cancel but the money doesn't stop, at least until you enter the other city and maybe not then.  Plazas are much easier to lay and don't have to be totally surrounded by roads.  This make terra forming much easier.  They seem to have twiddled with the economic cycle.  I get random business failures without any of the usual culprits.  The income level is not steady, it jumps around.  And so it goes.

Edit

Some things never change. The roads are still borked.  You still can't get reliable measurements with it much less charged for them.  Given this I assume that there are still placement issues.

I've been giving CitiesXL 2011 a go recently and have only gotten a few cities to around 75,000 pop. The 'memory leak' or whatever, is causing a huge slowdown for me and it quickly becomes quite frustrating. Hopefully this will be fixed so that I can fully explore what this game has to offer and make an informed critique. As it goes now...it is just too frustrating for me to keep playing it with the constant slowdown, lag...

Is it that slow at 75,000 people! If it is is your computer have all the required specifications? Sure my game is slow at 2.2 million people but in order for me to play this game im patient, because if your not your gonna hate this game.

It's not just slow...the game 'hangs' up for moments at a time. This happens constantly while I'm trying to simply build a road or whatever. My computer meets the specs, though...I'm only at 1gig of ram with WinXP. Minimum specs...I'm sure that doesn't help. The 'hang up' and slow down is even more pronounced when I have a trade situation with another city going on.

I just read what Screwballl wrote so I'm going to try his solution and see if that helps..

It's no different than with SC4. Back when I got that game when I was in the 4th grade, the computer that I had to play it on was only barely over the min. specs, and the game was very laggy and hung more than a few times. City builders are resource hogs by nature, and the only way to get a smooth experience with a big city is to have a machine that is safely above the recommended specs.

I saw that CXL 2011 was available on Steam for $10 so I decided to buy it and try it out. I had a really bad taste in my mouth after the whole Planet Offer fiasco and the way Monte Cristo handled communication so the fact that CXL 2011 was published by a different company made me feel better about buying it.

After playing around with it for a couple days it's worth the ten bucks. It's the game should have been released as the original Cities XL (minus all the mmo nonsense). Hopefully the new developers/publishers will allow the same type of modding freedom that SC4 enjoyed.

Yes good verdict smg77 , Focus really improved the game from the original and is more interface friendly.
