^ Keralis has some competition!

EDIT: The first 1.7 snapshot has been released, and for once, I actually wanted to try it out. I've been playing around for a few minutes using the "Amplified" world type. Holy mountains, Batman - I'm surprised my computer could even run the game. I haven't even seen any of the new biomes in-game and I feel like I'm new to Minecraft again. This is what the game has needed: additions like new biomes and more interesting world generation that give you that "first night hiding in a dirt hut" feeling. The feeling of excitement and curiosity to explore a strange new world... or something like that. Anyway, mountains. I can't even express the amazing scale of these things:

^ See the small tree island floating in the midst of the giant chasm?

Imagine these mountains plus shaders and a texture pack.  It would be so fun to jump off the highest peak with the "Quake Pro" FOV.

I wonder if they implement a bigger vertical extent sometime down the road. I bet a lot of builders would appreciate more than 256 blocks vertical.

They should add Outback and Bamboo Forest biomes while they're on a roll. Maybe not 1.7, but 1.8 or 1.9. Also, an option for higher sea level in Amplified worlds.

I think they should also focus on making caves more interesting. They could add ice caves or sandstone caves or something.

I also like the newest snapshot with "Super Secret Settings" being useful. Minecraft officially has shaders now! If you click on Super Secret Settings, it will change your shader. Imagine jumping off an amplified mountain upside down or other. :golly:

How bizzare! I just tried to access MCF from my phone at Northgate Mall and it said that I was "Not allowed to visit the community." I assume that means someone in the area did something wrong since my phone is now using service far away from where I usually use it.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I was having some fun with the Game of Thrones Texture pack but sadly it looks screwed up on the latest Minecraft version. You still need to use 1.6.4 in order to use them correctly.

I still refuse to update my minecraft because I'm done with the pseudo-modding this game offers. with every new version every mod has to be rewritten from the core and redownloaded and reinstalled and eeeww...

nope, I stick to my 1.5.2 until there's a final(!) way of dealing with content in this game.

oh and I found myself a nice scifi-themed texture pack aswell, aeon style. good textures, hires and I didn't even have to rework any of my creations as it happen to utilize the quartz blocks for hulls which I did aswell :thumb:

EDIT: the game sort of dislikes my rendering distance setting, even on optifine maximum it doesn't really render different from +64 so I had to take a screeny with a mapviewer...

anyways, I had to rework what I've previously shown cuz of some scale errors, but now everythings correct and here's the current state, with the hull bout 75% percent complete:
bhmt2.jpg

currently 768 long, 448 wide and 195 high, 39 decks. still missing a bit to the rear and on the underside, so its gonna be almost 800 long and 200 high. overall width won't change...

oh boy...

This is why I gave up on mods, but I use a little bit of "help" mods like Zan's Minimap, ArmorStausHUD, and StatusEffects and they are updated to 1.7.2 BTW. :)

My son plays minecraft and he's a bit too young to install mods himself (and as he plays on my laptop I would not let him even if he knew how to do it.)

Each time there's an update I know I'm gonna face some painful moments searching for updated mods and installing them (and some mods need other mods to work... DAAAAAAMMMMMN !!!!!!!!!!!... hey it reminds me of something similar, yesss, dependencies ;) )

only with the difference that the game we mod (sc4) isn't changing every few weeks so there's one single way to deal with content and only the dependencies to take care of.

not like with minecraft. I even go as far as to call this hassle intentional. I see that there has been a change at all because the original game would run into modding limits pretty fast but as of 1.5.1 I don't see a reason to change everything back and forth at all when it comes to mod compatibility.

yeah maybe it even has to be this hassle to make sure mods dont interfere with vanilla content, who knows. sounds logical to me.

either way, I stick to my modded 1.5.2.

maybe I make a second copy of minecraft which I keep vanilla and up do date just to see whats what

Not long ago, I used to play Minecraft without mods, until this one tiny Youtuber showed me how to install the mods he used. They were Forge mods on 1.7.2 and I found it very easy to install them: just drag and drop into .minecraft -> mods. If the mods do not show up in the mods list, open the mod (.jar) with let's say... Winrar and delete

mcmod.info

It should show up in the mods list afterwards.

SimCity 4 mods, they were a pain when I played it. I had a few hundred mods for NAM, bridges, textures, buildings, airports, and realism stuff. I took a long break from SimCity because in one of my cities, it's airport is becoming a bit too complex and it was lagging a lot.

I do know how to mod minecraft and of all the fancy tools to make a modders life easier, I wouldn't even touch minecraft anymore if it wasn't for forge and modloader. It's that I'm sick of redownloading and reinstalling everything with every update, waiting for the modders to keep up with the game's version and so on. that's why I decided to stick with one version for as long as I deem necessary.

Yup, the problem is not that installing mods in minecraft is difficult, the problem is that for almost every update of the game, modders have to rebuild their mods, so you have to wait for their updated versions, reinstall them, and pray for compatibility between the mods.

If you're lucky, the next minecraft update will let you have functionning mods for a few days ;)

I just built "The Long Building" from the Chicago 1890 tileset (of SimCity 4) in Minecraft.

Here is a picture I took:

Here is the album where I have uploaded all the pictures I have taken of it so far (and will upload more pictures to it soon.

why the frak can't you chose the minecraft installation folder!?

thanks to this and a neglected backup policy on my side, I lost about 2 months of modeling when I rebuilt my pc a few months back...

now I can't even find the cool texture pack anymore. aaahhh screw this...

also, I can't get 1.5.2 to run with fml in the new mc loader so screw this aswell. sticking to the original 1.5.2 further unless I find all the mods I use for 1.7.x

thanks for such a coherent modding policy, mojang... :noway:

none of you happen to have the Aeon Texture Pack for 1.5.2 (NOT Aeon Legacy Textures)?

got it back... looks like there's 2 different Aeon Legacy Textures... hd and normal, the latter is the droid I was looking for

EDIT

ok so I thought let's do some customizing on that texture pack... getting there...

gotta love optifine and ctm...
