Does anyone have any new info on the Plugin API?

Much appreciated,

--Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

they keep delaying it...

used to be 1.3, then 1.4 and now it's even most likely NOT 1.5 either

I slowly wonder if it'll be implemented at all

Well, it's known that they have been wanting to implement it way back since Alpha in some way or another, so I think that someday it has to be released.

I dunno if this has been discussed already, but what are your opinions on the snapshots. On the one hand, they spoil the surprise and excitement of the actual updates, but on the other hand, if Mojang didn't release snapshots, new content to the game would be few and far between. I don't like them because I'm always too tempted to watch videos and check the changelog to see what's new, but I don't really care if they're released because I never use them, I'm content with 1.4.7 stuff, and I can resist the temptations to see what's new if I want the excitement of official updates.

How do you guys feel about them?

I don't ever use the snapshots, but without them, the updates would not come out as frequently. They are mainly released for debugging tbh.

I'm wondering... has anyone ever seen the end of the minecraft-world?
like, the world is basically a horizontal plane and even tho it covers an area bigger than the surface of the earth, it has to end somewhere and I'm asking myself, is it an invisible wall or can you fall off or what?

Here's what the wiki says about the edge of the map: "the playable area abruptly ends at 30,000,000 meters, and fake chunks (they are not solid, they can be fallen through) start generating." I think it would be a fun challenge to travel there as a nomad, only being able to stay in a shelter for one night. But according to the wiki, it would take approximately 34 days straight to walk there from the center of a map. It would be more fun if the far lands still existed. It would take around half as long, and the terrain generation of the far lands looked really cool:

But after 1.8 (when the far lands were removed) I don't think there really is much to see out there.

Ah Minecraft this is where i have been spending much of my gaming time away from SC4.

For those that find the Feed the Beast packs daunting I would recommend focusing on learning one mod at a time. As you progressively add more mods to your list of understood concepts and capabilities you will find the power that is unlocked by the mixing of the available mods. Also watch Direwolf20's single player lets play series since he approaches it a bit tutorialish but mainly narrows focus to one mod's project per episode.

Right now I am working on a SSP world using the FTB Mindcrack pack with some extra mods added on top. At the moment I have just gotten my starting workshop to a 95% complete state, I just need an assembly table to make some buildcraft logic gates and a BT alloy furnace from Redpower2.

Short term goals for this world.

    -Forestry Automatic wheat farm.

-Tunnel through mountains to the wasteland.

-Save a wasteland villiage from a zombie apocolapse

    -Build pathways in rainforest area.

    Longer-term Goals for this world.

-Railcraft freight station for routing of all goods and resources.

-Overworld Gregtech powered ore refinery for 300%+ yields

    Ultimate goals

-Industrial Steampunk Eden themed city rising out of the wasteland.

    -Youtube video

There is actually a guy who is walking to the far lands: http://farlandsorbust.com/

He has video series of it in YouTube. I'm semi-watching it. :D

Yeah, I've seen a little bit of his videos. I'm a big fan of the Mindcrack guys.

Edit: Bump! 1.6 will include horses, as shown by Jeb with this screenshot:

    Horse_jeb.jpg

1.6 will also include other new mobs, and it may include other features Mojang has said they will include, like new rails, more interesting villagers, and new fishing content. I think this is pretty exciting news. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I have to use an older version to run with somewhat stable 30 fps because the latest version kills my fps, and the new water looks hideous anyway.

my latest effort in wasting time in minecraft

    2013-06-14_12.45.jpg

FAR from complete but it's getting there... slowly.

160 x 112 x 28... almost twice the size I had in mind but the size of the blocks doesn't allow for anything less without screwing up the look

    nailed it.

and I just couldn't keep my fingers off mods... again...

already at 15 or so mods just so I can build this ship the way I want it... or more so than without mods.

furniture, smart moving, weapons... jeez just got myself a redstone mod to get some interactiveness into this thing...

but it looks like real mod compatibility comes closer every minute, read something about a new texture handling in preparation of the new mod api... let's see what happens

but I'll stick to 152 for a while now and keep it as a backup, just in case.

EDIT: anyone knows of a MOD (not texture pack) that adds nice scifi-ish stuff like panels, furniture and the likes? all the things I found so far are texture packs and that's not what I need

not quite what I had in mind. the 3 of them together with computercraft do add nice things indeed, but they're more tailored towards complex mechanisms/machines.

well, what I'm looking for is basically a cosmetic mod that gives additional scifi-themed furniture and deco (and maybe blocks) rather than replacing vanilla content or adding a bazillion of things I'd never actually touch (like BC IC UE and CC do)

unfortunately all the things that I've found so far are just texture packs (e.g. the one used on minetrek.net), but I'm using quite a lot of vanilla stuff even on my "themed" creations so a simple texture pack just doesn't do the trick.

is there an easy way to host 2 minecraft installations /versions on one system?
I sort of feel like upgrading to 1.6.x but I've done so much with 1.5.x mods that most like are not yet 1.6.x compatible and probably wont be until short to 1.7.x like it always is...

Why don't you try meddling with the new launcher. You can make a new profile for 1.5.2 + Mods if you install Forge in the 1.5.2.jar, I think. At least, that's how it works for 1.6.X mods now.

I just figured out that it is extremely easy to BAT using minecraft. I found a download of a building from High Rossferry City that was a skyscraper. It easily exported as OBJ with all the textures intact. All i had to do was set LODs and hit the render button and the minecraft map turned into this:

    KYuhgVa.jpg

All you need to do it is MC2Obj and a build. It comes in properly scaled with textures. You can get MC2OBJ here

    http://www.jmc2obj.net/

The textures arent the greatest, but it exports custom  texture packs, so with enough effort minecraft could probably be used for BATing.
