Similar road signs made by a friend of mine. Maybe they'll be useful for BATters? Files are PNGs for easy sign making.

Anyways, have a look. Some are pretty large, so click for full size.

I originally found them on aaroads.com. Posted them here to give some inspiration to sign makers. That help refresh your memory? :???:

Here's a new sign I cooked up last night.

    signset3.png

This sign is for a RHW 6C- RHW 2+RHW 4 Splitter. I debated(With myself :P) whether to use a left diagonal arrow or downword arrow for the left exit.

And here it is on a RHW-6 UC Sign Gantry:

    signbat.jpg

(The middle one might look large; I had to scale it so that the writing is legible).

Please tell me how these were made (the backgrounds anyway)!! I like how Ontario signs are squared (how I made mine) but I hate the down arrows they use (those thin ones), it ruins their signs.

Looks quite pixely and I have the feeling that the proportions aren't right. What program did you use for making these signs?

EDIT: A few RL signs I've converted to my own style (streetview location of every sign's RL counterpart included):

    City Ring, Zoetermeer, the Netherlands:

Rainbow Dash Rocks, I highly suggest you use either Inkscape (free download) or Illustrator (which I use) instead of MS Paint. Believe me.

Here's an example comparing the two.

    MS Paint

    sign1c.png

    sign15.png

    Illustrator

    sj01b.png

    sj01a.png

As you can see, the images created using a program like Illustrator or Inkscape looks clearer and less pixelated than the first two done with MS Paint. And don't stretch your shields in weird proportion/size. Your signs will look nicely done!

    Good luck!

    Hey fonzyfb73,

Since it seems that you're using either Inkscape or Illustrator, you might want to look at the attached.

It's a high-res, layered .psd of the California State Route sign. I noticed yours looks a little jaggy.

And, in case you'd like to know, the font for the numbers is called "Highway Gothic" and can be found at: dafont.

Some new, revamped roadsigns for Illium.

The mask covers "Serenity Island" because the bridge from Industrial to the Island was destroyed during the Calistan Occupation.

    industrial_210.jpg

The Exit for Palace Avenue is closed indefinitely as a new parclo exit is being constructed further back to alleviate traffic on the frontage road that extends onto the highway. The detour is to exit on Main St.

@ daTSchikinhed - those signs are really awesome! I love the texture you have on them, makes them very realistic! :)

2 from me today... they are a work in progress for my CJ region.

This first one is more an experimentation, the attraction "Downtown / Centre-Ville" is really just bilingual for fun. :P You would see this on the side of the highway indicating where to go to get to Downtown Sherkston.

    sign2HoltDistrict.jpg

And this one would be the sign informing you the exit for Highway 140 (EAST) is coming up...

    sign1HoltDistrict.jpg

Note that there is a white border around the signs, it just doesn't display because the background is also white.

It's actually really easy to do. I could show you. Do you have Photoshop? If not, I suggest getting it. Message me for details man.

I like these signs, my question is are these just made for fun? Or do these becomes actual signs to be used in the game?

I'm planning to do a Schellingen set for SimCity 4 some time, but that is heavily dependent on my other activities, so not likely to happen in the near future.

What programs do you guys use to make your road signs?

Most of us use Inkscape (a free open source vector image editing application), plus we got some semi-official fonts from the internet (this is a good font set the start with: http://www.fontspace.com/michael-d-adams/roadgeek-2005).

So this is example of basic Czech signage made by me....maybe useless but I'm having fun recreating signage and...maybe you'll learn something! :D

    signage.png

    1. This is a highway sign from our hooooorrrrriiiibbbbllllleeee highway D1 (shock absorber destroyer...really.) 500m means distance to exit showed at this particular sign. Tábor is city. It is in blue rectangle which means you'll no loger proceed on highway but you'll go to non payed road.

2.You will meat this sign when you are proceeding to roundabout. Again, 500m show distance to that roundabout. Numbers in rectangles are numbers of roads.

3.Imagine you are riding at expressway to Ostrava (my city! :D) Now there is work on road. You will probably see this sign. Yes, detour sign, it shows you alternative route in case of roadworks of something. It is just temporary sign.

    4. Now you have arrived in some city and you are searching for some district or center of town or something like this. This type of sign will help you.

I also recently made this one, which is inspired by czech style and some sims will found this one in my region I'm working on now. :D

    mtol.png

And if you won't take exit to non-payed road 358 you will proceed to Toll Plaza and see something like this. Be careful! If you are riding car and take motorcycle transit, you won't pass through, because it's too narrow and you'll have to pay fine because of traffic slowing down. Same with bus and truck transit, booth window is too high.

There is no type of electronic toll.

    putarina.png

Signs which are showing if transit is opened or not are working on rollsign system and are made from reflexive material to be seen good at night or bad wheater. Some older types are not reflexive and are enlightened by built-in lights.

Just offhand, Kurumi's SignMaker program could be put to use if you want to make American-style signs. The proportions are right.

Just offhand, Kurumi's SignMaker program could be put to use if you want to make American-style signs. The proportions are right.

One thing I've noticed about many American signs posted here is that many are more vertical and narrow than what I'm used to seeing. When I first used Kurumi's Signmaker, my primary use was to assist I'm creating California-themed cities.

I think if you are doing regular American signs, then the program would be fine (although I haven't travelled outside California long enough to see what regular American signage looks like), but I often had problems making California signage that are often short in height and wider than average American signs (and sometimes very wide at many major interchanges). So the proportions may be right for regular American signage but not for California signage (either that or I somehow didn't know how to use it). Plus the maximum number of lanes per sign in the signmaker (for making down arrows) bugs me when I want more than 4 arrows pointing downwards on the same sign. It also limits customization of your sign which would have to get done in Paint afterwards.

I'd give examples and links but my computer is broken atm and I'm doing this from my phone. But that's my two cents on Kurumi's Signmaker.

I actually prefer InkScape over SignMaker, since it's more flexibile and customizealbe. It also gives better looking results. Compare Patricus Maximus' signs with my InkScape imitation:

    random14_1.png

However, I've created my own re-design of these signs with smaller fonts (480mm height to be exact, which is still quite big and easy readable), smaller shields, denoted wind directions, the use of the exit symbol, changed alignment and more efficient use of space.
