Ive got most of this indented area done I havnt started on the anoyin curved part which is viewable from some directions. I have put floors and am going to add interior walls splitting it into its individual apartments. That way I can make the lights light up each apartment.

Hey all, sorry there haven't been many updates lately. I'm still reinstalling all of my software on my computer, plus I'm getting adjusted to my new semester.

Today, I found out something interesting that you might all like. Apparently, U of M has software license for Electronic Arts products, which means some games such as the Madden NFL series and SimCity Rush Hour (with the B.A.T.) have been installed on the servers and are available to access at the University Union(?) and League. But since it's stored on the server, it can be accessed anywhere. I'm not sure if my logic holds true, but I'm assuming that the servers take control of the processing power of these games because the terminals have no CPU towers or other modules to store the processor -- just a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. So, I put GMax to the test on the university servers and did a high rendering of my model. Amazingly, it took seconds to complete the rendering you saw on the other page, versus the minutes it took on my own computer. Knowing that I have an excellent laptop, which unfortunately yields slow renderings, it is my guess that the University's servers are rendering the model, obviously more efficiently. I'm not sure if it is possible to tap into the server from any computer besides the ones at the League. I'm going to see if there is a shortcut somewhere on the system which would allow non-university students to render their models through it...Being all of you guys except nofunk and I. So I'll see if I can find more out about this and let you guys know.

Great job farminsim!  The texture looks better than I thought and many thanks to Allan for a good photo I could use.  It looks as though I might need to touch up some of the areas.  Hard to tell right now.  Send me the outlines of the other 3 walls and I will get them done too for you.  Also, if you want I can do several window textures for you too.

Wolverine, farminsim is having problems rendering his Comerica tower from a long time ago and was wondering if you could try with your powerful U of M computers.....  Also, I'm really looking forward to you getting things up and running and seeing updates from the dime building.

Yeah, for some reason JD's Comerica model renders into 4 separate files. It needs to be re-rendered as long as he hasn't lost the gmax file.

Yeah, it would be pretty easy I figure. If I were to use the same model for a Discount Tire there would need to be a few subtle adjustments made but nothing too major. Maybe a slight change in color scheme and brick, new sign, different window tinting, and I'd chop off the top of the tower section and make it level with the rest of the building. Either way not too difficult. I see the time has come to begin to get back into this, the BAT I mean. Maybe I'll get some time this weekend and be able to play catch up as I know you and no funk are waiting for me to LE those models you sent me eons ago. As long as I don't have to work this weekend then I should have a shot at them finally!

EDIT---Baldy so your the texture man huh? Can you come up with some reflective type if you get a chance?

I'm hoping for a snow/ice day on Friday. All this rain we're getting should freeze over tonight (I hope so)! 9.gif

Haha, I'm hoping that it won't make a big mess of the roads because I need to go downtown tomorrow, and driving in rush hour traffic on icy roads isn't exactly my idea of fun.

BD, I don't mind doing textures.  It seams to be about the only thing I have time to do and I'm better at photoshop than I am at Gmax!  I can help you with the Ren Cen texture if that's what you're asking for.  PM or e-mail me with specifics.  Also, I'm glad to hear you might be getting back to the BAT again!  We've been waiting to see updates for a long time.  RLS can creep up really quick.

I'm glad the weather wasn't too bad.  Unlike some of you, it doesn't matter what the weather is like, we still have to go to work.

Hey ya'll. Sorry I've been m.i.a. lately. Been a little bogged down with classes starting and other stuff. And every time I open GMAX I end up screwing around with it for maybe 10 mins and then just not wanting to do anything. But Cadillac Tower will be done some day! I promise haha.

I'd actually like to get Burton Memorial Tower finished and uploaded. Just need the night lights done . . . I should mess around with those this weekend and see what I can do.

In any case, hope everyone's doing good. Just thought I'd check in.

Farminism: Kales looks great! And that texture is awesome!!

I think we've all been really busy lately. This is my first free sizeable amount of free time all week, actually. Which reminds me, I really need to work on the Statler. I haven't even touched the BAT in three weeks!

Well I have been busy and here is some of the stuff I have in the works:
    Billboards
    Gas Station
(Thats a gas station in its earliest stage)
    Sunset Beach Shops
(And don't laugh about the roof junk, it's getting changed because I didn't have any roof junk to work with.)
EDITSorry if anyone tried the links and it was all the same, I fixed the links so they go to the right picture now.

I really like that last one spidey. Reminds me a bit of SG's work. A great job on the details and a nice use of textures. 44.gif

for the billboards, I think that they should advertise the companies that started in detroit, and later on when the lot is released maybe it could have some kind of custom query that gives a short history about the company, like Vernors ginger ale, Sanders hot fudge, Better Made Potato Chips, Faygo soda and Stroh's Ice Cream or something.

Thanks ert, I especially like that texture, I found it surfing yahoo image search. I believe the site was something like storm vision textures...
Those billboards are just for the 'airport pack.' They were requested by a bunch of people in the Dev/XSpiderman Billboard Factory thread.

Pffffffftt, stupid badger fans. What makes you think Wisconsin is better than us?29.gif

Also, before I forget, if anyone hasn't heard, Michigan Stadium will be receiving a massive renovation with a whole new design. I look forward to seeing the design!!!

Hey, I spent the first 18 years of my life in Wisconsin, so watch your step Wolverine2.gif All I want to hear from you is that your computer is up and running, and that you've had a lot of free time recently to complete the BSP webpage and the Dime Building! Just kidding, but just curious if you've had anytime to start working on them again.

Its been pretty quiet around here lately, where is everyone?

Well judging by the fact that we beat you in both bball and hockey...it's all friendly rivalry, of course.

What are they doing to Michigan Stadium? Adding another 100,000 seats and making it an even more dangerous place for the away team to play in (if that's possible?)

I'm still around, but very consumed in my architecture projects with very little free time.

Some pics taken at 3:00 AM:

Me working hard.  Andy yes, that is a beer.  It helps us be more creative in our drawings.

    My friends not working hard.

I have a really good video of the chaotic mess that is my architecture studio, but you will have to PM me for the link since it contains strong language.

You've got to love late nights in the studio! It's really sad when you're working on a project and then the next day's classes start. All these people who have had actual sleep come in all refreshed and then ask if you've been working all night.

I don't have late nights like I did last semester though. My classes start at 8:00 AM Monday through Thursday, so I'm usually in bed by 2:00 or so. All we've really done so far is designed and drawn up construction drawings for a house. Now I have a week to render the front and back elevations and the two floorplans. Of course rendering simply involves photocopying the original plans and coloring them in and adding texture with pastels, prisma markers, and colored pencils. The nice thing is that my professor is letting me work in 3/16 = 1', so it's small enough that I can work on it in my room. I've never seen plans in 3/16 scale, but whatever. My other studio is devoted to 3D sculpture. All we do in there is take photos of Detroit, arrange them in a collage, sketch a model of what the sculpture could look like, and then build the sculpture. Very simple. The professor thinks everything I'm doing is really good. I don't think it's all that great, but that's just me.

Other than that, all I've really been doing is wandering aimlessly around Detroit in knee deep snow. Or at least it was knee deep when I went to my friend's loft last weekend! I should've just stayed home, since nothing was actually plowed. I've never driven that slow on the Lodge before, and Woodward and Jefferson were the only two surface streets that were sort of clear.

Anyway, that's what I've been up to. I haven't touched the Statler BAT in a long time. I might have time to work on that this weekend.
