Is it possible to make an image in Photoshop or any other image editing program and then open it in gMax or 3DS and export it in B.A.T?

Its possible to do this but I dont see why you would want to. Just a image alone would look bad. You need to have more. Something like a billboard to place the image on.

The easiest way to do this would be to replace a model like this

Just overwirte the image that comes with it and you have a billboard ready to export in the BAT

GMAX will not convert the 2d picture into a 3d model, if that was what you thought2.gif

It's possible, but it would be exceptionally tedious and impractical to paint a BAT from scratch in Photoshop and then do the modding required to get it to work.

Painting a BAT from scratch in photoshop is pretty unimaginable. I'm pretty good with photoshop but it would take a super long time to do, and it still probably wouldn't look very good.

This is what BAT4Max does. 3ds Max makes images, and then those images are converted into .FSH files, and they replace the ones already in the .SC4Model.

But anyway, it's technically possible, but the practical answer is no.

Slightly off topic, I've always wondered whether or not it's possible to extract a .fsh file from a completed SC4Model, edit (or touch it up) in some way - it would have to be converted to a .png or some similar format in order to get it into Photoshop - then convert it back to .fsh and re-insert it into the model file. Does anybody know it this is possible?

The reason I ask is that from time to time, exported models contain glitches that may be as simple as just a few out of place pixels... you just want to somehow "paint" over it without the trouble of having to do another export.

I would make the 3D image myself, each side. And then just put it together like a puzzle, I wanted to design a high quality texture for some of my buildings o_O

It's totally possible!!  There are tools for converting between .FSH and more typical file formats.  The tricky part is keeping track of all of the IDs and stuff so that everything works correctly when you put it into your .SC4Model.

For 3ds max it's easier, since I think you can simply open and edit the .bmp files in your output files folder, and then run the .bat (the one that has the same name as your .SC4Model file is the one which will convert your files).  I tried this once, but I think I screwed something up, since when I inserted the .FSH into my .SC4Model file, it didn't recognize them properly (so I just gave up and re-exported the model).

This sounds interesting. I was thinking along the same lines, for the simple reason that some BATs are really great and all, just totally off in terms of hue and saturation. It wouldn't take more than a quick "disassembly", colour correction and "re-assembly" to make them shine!
