I'm working on creating a City Journal and I would like to tell the story through a Newspaper layout.  I've seen others make newspapers for their CJ but I've never seen one done exclusively by a newspaper layout.  Before I start posting I would like to get feedback on the idea.  Here is a Sample of what it looks like now.  My main concerns are: Are the articles easy enough to read, Looks and feels like a newspaper.  I appreciate any feedback.  I'm sorry if this belongs in a different section of the forum.

I've seen lots of newspapers on this site, they all have their own style and their own way of presenting the news. If you're up for realism, try to take a look to the most read papers in your area or the ones you like the most.

About your sample, I think the font's realistic and easy to read, but I would work a lot on the newspaper banner (I don't know how to call it in correct English); you know, the thing that gives character to your paper, the first thing the readers see on the newsagents'. You see this gothic font and say "OK, New York Times" or whatever paper you want; you need to have something particular that makes your newspaper different from all the rest.

If you want to go further, you could try photoediting some rugged paper effects, but it's not a necessary thing...

All this it's my opinion...

Here is a new version.  After looking at it I really didn't like the white look of the newspaper.  So I gave it a grey color.  So please let me know if you like the new color more then the old one.

Text in newspaper articles is usually justified differently, so that the sides of each line are equal (block justify). I would remove the curved ends from the separation lines, as it looks odd next to TNR font. Also, you need to change your banner, include some sort of company logo to make it recognisable.

The newspaper looks pretty good, but then again alot of people do it, not that its a bad thing. What might be a more fresh look at the whole idea is maybe posters of happenings around town, citizen voice, web-blog type screenshots, maybe even the real thing as a few have done. If you think of a real city and how news gets around nowdays, Imagine that for your city.

    My two cents.

About justification:  You have three main choices - ragged right, which you have; full justify with blank fill of thin spaces as needed, which can result in rivers in the text; or justify with hyphenation, which will help prevent rivers.  You could also just use ragged right with hyphenation which will compact your text.

A logo of some kind in the mast head would improve the appearance.  Since you seem to be working J.R.R. Tolkien's universe, I'd suggest something appropriate (Smaug? Shadowfax?).

Spell check your copy.  There is at least one spelling error, and it changes the sense of the sentence.  You'll have to do it manually, because a spell checker would pass it.  Try reading the copy backwards.

Overall, you have a good thing going.  So keep up the good work.

It looks good however I would remove the lines seperating the columns. Also the blank field in the bottom definately needs to be filled in.

Also change "dailing" to "dialing" Also a small banner image would work too. Other than that, looks very very nice.
