How to grow mid density, High wealth highrises?

OK, I'm having a little bit of an issue right now in my city of 7300 people. First, ill tell ya about what ive got so far. Most of my residents (~60%) are medium wealth. The other 40% are high wealth. As for low income residents.. well, ive only got around 78 of them 9.gif.  Anyway back to the issue, for my high wealth sims, all ive been getting are ridiculous mansions that only hold 8-14 people in them. And im not talking about the giant 4x4 low density ones, I'm talking about the 3x2 or 2x3, (not sure which one it is) you get when you zone mid-density. I simply dont understand why I am not getting any mid-highrises (and by highrises, I dont mean skyscrapers, which you get when you zone high density, im talking about the tallest possible mid density condos/apartment buildings). I have plenty of highrises for my medium wealth sims, and my city seems adequate enough( Elementary, High Schools, Libraries, a College, NO air pollution, NO water polution, police stations, fire stations, plenty of parks/green spaces, clinics) for me to grow R$$$ highrises too. So if anyone could tell me what ive been doing wrong, or what i havent added to my city to help it grow? IT would be much appreciated. (As a side note, where exactly can you find pictures taken in-game? Cant remember, if someone could tell me, ill try to post some pics here so you guys can see what I'm talking about)

Thanks for helping a former simcity veteran that hasnt played the game in almost 3 years! 48.gif

All of the growable buildings in the game have a "stage" which they begin to grow at. Stages are divided by population, so once you get X number of sims in a category (R$$$, CO$$, etc.) your city will move to the next stage, and bigger and more compact buildings will start growing.

7300 sims isn't very much, so just keep on developing your city, and eventually you should start getting bigger development. 4.gif

Thanks for the info Jason, but I have a neighboring city called Montreal with a pop. of 5200, and its getting some high wealth condos even though its still in heavy development and doesnt have an extensive education system :\ And X493x, I stated in my post that I had water coverage. Basically every building in my entire city has water. If I actually knew how to upload pics, I would have posted some pics to show it but i dont know how unfortunately :C

You obviously already have water since you have high wealth residents. I agree that it's a question of growth stage; you simply need more people to "unlock" the bigger buildings. Zone more residential areas. Another possibility is that you simply don't have the demand for a large amount of high wealth residents which means that they few that the city can support live in mansion type buidings instead of in midrises.

On a side note, you said you have very few poor sims. That is one of the most common mistake for new players, trying to get rid of low wealth sims altogether. Doing so will limit your city greatly and cause unemplyment among your R

On a side note, you said you have very few poor sims. That is one of the most common mistake for new players, trying to get rid of low wealth sims altogether. Doing so will limit your city greatly and cause unemplyment among your R§§ and especially R§§§ citizens. If there are no low wealth citizens, there's no one to do all the menial tasks at your work places which will give you low demand for industry, and especieally for commercial. You can never grow a large, well functioning city without a fair share of low wealth citizens. If you don't want them in the city because you don't like the look of the buildings, I recommend you to let them live in an adjacent city tile.quote>

That's already been done =) My region right now consists of 5 cities, all conected. 2 of them (Carma City, the one that im currently having this issue on) and Montreal, both consist of mostly Medium-high wealth residents. Another two (Calgary and Kenzie) consist of about 50% low wealth and 50% mid and high wealth. The fifth one, Bucksville is fairly new and consists of mostly low wealth residents. Again, ALL of these cities are connected with a system of avenues and rail ( No need for a highway yet, although I will eventually build one). Connections are very tight as of now, I dont have any no-job zits or anything like that. Also its not that I dont like the way that low income resident buildings look, weareanidiot, its just that MID and HIGH wealth residents move in, kicking the low wealth residents out. But anyway thanks for the help, I will try to zone what little space I have left  (Most of the available space has been zoned, since I am playing on a small tile with about 40% water in it.) Also, demand is no problem for me, high wealth residential is about 1/3 above the zero line 19.gif

In that case it is almost certainly a question of lack of demand, so there is no need for you to zone where you don't want to zone. Just continue playing the region in other cities, create some more industrial and commercial jobs and then come back to your city and watch those high wealth sims move in.

Also, if you want to completely stop mansions from growing, there is a mod for it although I don't remember its name. With the mod active, mansions can't grow so all high wealth sims will build condos instead. If you want mansions in another city, you can simpy remove the mod from your plugin folder.

Thanks! I will try to make more jobs in the adjacent cities, even though it seems as though i have enough high-paying jobs in my city. Ive already got some mid-rise office buildings in my city! Commercial demand for CS$$, CO$$ and CO$$$ has basically skyrocketed ever since I connected all the cities together. For some reason though, CS$ and CS$$$ have been getting negative demand As for industrial, its doing pretty good. Dirty and Manufacturing are both about halfway below the zero line, and hightech is about halfway above the zero line. Residential is doing fine, with medium wealth and high wealth about 1/3 to a half above it. 10.gif Anyway, ill keep on trying! I will NOT give up!
