Can you guys help me on this, my computer was lately in need of being dumped in it's C drive. When I installed it I put it in the F drive. But I have Windows XP, and some extra info went into My Documents. Would the files in My Documents be in the C drive? If so would my game be able to run from what it has in the F drive? Please reply, thanks.

I'd rather you install it to C, because F isn't actually part of your computer.

Stanislav no offense but that is irreverent to my question. I have it in the F drive because it's for my games since I've ran too low of memory in the C drive.

"F:" is part of his computer.. in fact you can name the drive whatever you want.

As for game playability... it should still work. As long as the file paths and targets were set there during install.

Could you clarify what you mean by "download"?

If you downloaded the game it will not work no matter what part of the computer you put it on. Downloading the game is also illegal. If you downloaded the game you will not recive anymore help. It is against the site rules to discuss illegal downloading and torrents here.

Xyloxadoria: I meant install. I apologize for my poor grammar, that was a mistake on my part. I got it off of Amazon. It reminded me of downloading when it asked where it wants me to put the SimCity 4 information. I download STEX and that got me off.

erbush: So the files in My Documents shouldn't have been effected? Hope your right.

The "My Docs" area is actually a system variable (in addition to being an actual location on your drive). In order for you to relieve space on your C drive it is perfectly acceptable to "move" the "my docs" area to the F drive. This will have no effect on the functionality of the "my docs" folder. Go to the current location (default is the C drive) and right click it.. select "properties".. one of your options is to "move" it. Select this and move it to the F: drive. You will have to restart your pc after you do this, but after startup you will find all of it (which can amount to many, many Gigabytes) will be relocated to your F: drive. After you do this, it will remain there permanently. In all other respects you can continue to treat it the same as if it were on the C: drive. You may have to modify some shortcuts to relabel as F:.

Then how can you have a "My Doc's" folder.. that is automatically made on the C drive when Windows is set up.. where is your op system? People are quite willing to try to help you, but I'm afraid you're not doing a good job of defining the problem and what you're trying to achieve.

What i think is going on here is, his computer hard drive © was full so he moved everything to F (possibly a portable hard drive) so he can completely clean out C. What i think he is asking is if the game will still run off the F drive. If F is an internal hard drive then there should be no problems but if it is is a portable hard drive connected by USB then you most likely will suffer with lag as USB is a lot slower at transferring information then an internal hard drive. What you can do ... is run the game and see if it starts ... if it works then problem solved.

But since the OP has not given alot of helpful information on this, i could be completely wrong. If so then ignore my post.

Ryan, your close but not quite. I used to only have it on one drive (C4.gif, but then there wasn't enough memory to hold much more. So I got an other drive (F4.gif and I put the games onto the (F) drive. Soon I got SimCity 4, where it asked me where to store the files, and I put it in the (F) drive. Some of the other files were stored into My Documents. There was a problem with the © drive. I did an Anti-virus scan and it said there was a virus in which was deleted. But the thing deleted ruined the © drive and sadly enough the © drive had to be dumped. The My Document files, are they part of the © drive, or did it go into the (F). And if it was part of the ©, can the country I made (Shayden) still run even if the C drive was deleted. (Note I have Windows XP)

Your documents are probably in the C: drive. The game will run without the files in your documents, but it will have to put them somewhere. I'm not sure how that would work. If you reboot you C: drive, and it is work normally again, SimCity will surely work.
