Probably because that's when it will be ready?

The publishers site says Q4 that means in the October-December time frame so most gaming sites will list it as October. just because someone says something does not mean anything go by what it says on Focus Home Interactive's site, and the CXL 2011 product page is at http://www.focus-home.com/index.php?rub=games&gid=45 on the right it says Release date: Q4

gaming sites are also known to guess when a publisher says Q4 that tends to be a busy time because of the holidays so the smaller games (this one) they will guess Early Q4 (October/first part of Nov) because they do not want to go head to head with the big title release dates (Gears of war, Halo, World of warcraft, etc...) as those tend to come out in december and late november

From the CXL homepage:

We will therefore release Cities XL 2011 in October and will do so with the intent to please those who bought the earlier version

So they are going with October it does look like.

Why?

There's a number of reasons that could be. Maybe they don't view the game as "complete" yet, while MC did - meaning they want more time to go through and make sure everything is working the way it should. That's a really good thing in my opinion, especially for this genre. The past few city games that have come out have been busts (CXL, City Life, Societies), and hopefully Focus is wanting to devote the time to make sure the release is as close to expectations as they can get with the community. In other words, they just put a big investment into this genre and they want to make sure it pays off.

I wonder why are you so surprised by that?

1. There has been a major wreck in CXL's development, which means that they've probably stopped developing months ago (when we first heard about CXL2011). Now the new company is still taking over Monte Cristo's assets - they probably need to do quite some cleaning and figuring out. We don't know if the old developers are still continuing to work on the project (i.e. if they were hired by the new company), or there is a completely different team of developers taking over. In thesecond case, those new people will need a looooot of time to get aquainted with CXL.

2. Monte Cristo never said when is CXL 2011 actually comming out. It may be that they really had a lot of work on it and indeed intended to release it only towards the end of 2010 (hence the '2011' in the title).

Overall, I'm actually happy to hear that the game is still alive, so for me a delay of 4 months doesn't mean a lot. After all, a week ago we thought Cities XL is dead and the only development done from now on will be community modding.

Now, I really hope to see some nice offer for the 'old gang' that has the original CXL.

I think some sort of interview / Q&A with FHI would be a good move. Can somebody "official" get in touch with them?

The angle (relevance) for this thread is simple - it would be good to know what mods / community features will be there.

I wonder whether we can put together a community wish list (with realistic stuff on it!) Experience suggests it will be ignored, but if you don't ask...

Globexco had attempted to contact them regarding his modd through the website, but the contact form seemed to be frozen.  It may not yet be activated, or perhaps they are being deluged with messages.  48.gif  It might be wise to give them at least a week or two to get on their feet.  I'm sure support/activation is their main concern, which may have been a bit behind.  I do agree a Q and A would be nice.  I will visit with Globexco and dirk may have some interest.  As for a wish list, I think they have a fair piece of work ahead of them to finish the things that were already communicated and started.  So this I'm sure is their main objective design wise.  They no doubt will ask for input if they are in the position to implement it.  I think members' fondest wish in the last few weeks was that the game would not die.  That wish appears to have been granted.  ATM, it might be good just to take a breath and enjoy celebrating that fact.   39.gif9.gif

There's a good chance that the primary reason is the Christmas season. a lot of games shoot for the October/November window so that it will be fresh in peoples minds for gift shopping.

I'm sure also they want the time to tie up loose ends and get the bugs out. But I'm sure if you look at all the sales data in the game industry, it will show that fall is the best time for release.

Please, no wish lists for now! Let's give those guys a break from our dreams..... We don't need yet another company freaking out when hearing our fantazies!

Also, Living in Sim rightly stated that if they decided to listen to the community, they already have more input than a dozen game companies need. I guess they've inherited along with the rest the old Cities Unlimited forums that disappeared; we also have thousands of threads in this very forum with suggestions.

So, really, let's just sit back and celebrate the rebirth of CXL for now!

I'm going to ask (as soon as I can) what they think about being contacted by Simtropolis; suggestions will come later. Remember also that they planned other press releases (next one should be about prices and dates I think), so let's wait they finish to give public info.

Maybe one of the first thing to ask is modding and custom content. an interview or better someone that answers here in forums (like Gregory and others) would be great.

Just wait, wait, wait ...

edit: found a way to contact them...
