 It was alright until like today, when the automata suddenly goes much faster than usual. Yes, it is at turtle speed. Can somebody help?

I take it you have tried messing with the "variable speed automata" option in the game, it sounds like a problem with the NAM from what everybody else said.  And you DO NOT have to reinstall the NAM to adjust the intersection effect congestion thingy (I don't remember exactly what they christened it).  All you need is the new Unified Traffic Simulator from the NAM in order to adjust the intersection effect multiplier.  If you don't have this and have no idea what I'm talking about, then you DO need to reinstall the NAM and choose the 'build custom simulator' option instead of Z for a traffic simulator.

Once you get to the point where you have that custom simulator, all you have to do is open the editor and change the box that says "Intersection Effect Multiplier" to 0.2 and that brings it back to normal.

I'm not an expert on this, so someone who is should certainly correct me on any points if I'm wrong.  Hope it helps!

Uh, the traffic simulator doesn't affect in any way how fast the automata go (aside from Max Network Speed by Network for XXX - but the automata controller has multipliers to scale these properly). It has to do with the automata controller and your game.

Also, putting Intersection and Turn Capacity (not speed, therefore it cannot be the root of the issue) Effect's first rep below 1 will result in congestion forming prematurely and prevents "traffic spread balance" on the RHW and NWM networks.

I don't know what to put here anymore.

I have the same problem and I am tracking it down at the moment.

what I can tell 100% sure for now is it is NOT the nam.

I narrowed down my search to a certain folder of plugins relating to road nedworks, unfortunately I put several different plugins in this folder so I have to figure out which one exactly is causing this problem. I'll keep you updated

EDIT 1 (because there'll be a 2nd in due time): I've found the problematic file, and maybe I can find a fix aswell.

EDIT 1.5: a lil more difficult than I thought it would be.

Basically, what was causing the problem for me was willsim's long train mod.

problem is, I can't fix it right now cuz all values are named "unknown" so I have to look up the problematic value which I lack the time for right now. tomorrow then...

I've had this problem when using willsim's long train mod. It goes away when I disable it.

OK, so I'm digging into willsim's long train mod file right now and at first sight, the fella put pretty much every imaginable value related to transportation into his little mod. There's several entries related to max automata speed and one related to simulation speed, I've removed them and now I'm gonna check if the problem is solved. If not... further testing :-)

EDIT: even worse than I thought. the changes I made in fact slowed the automata down, but even beyond the normal simulation speed. Removing everything not related to trains makes the game crash. hard to tell what's wrong here

When my boy wants to drive the freight trains I enable this mod (I use SimCity Startup Manager). Any other time I disable it. I am definitely interested in your findings GMT.

If you take the NAM Automata Controller file (NetworkAddonMod_Automata_*insert name*.dat where insert name is radical, standard, etc) and simply edit "Min/Max Train Length" to the desired values. Nothing else needs to be changed to get longer trains.

Thanks for the info!  I will give it a try.

If the problem also includes scrolling going incredibly fast, try letting the game run on just one core.

I've never modded anything like this before.  Is this the correct value to edit, Vince?

EditFreightTrainLength.png

One should replace the "09" with the desired number, then click the "Apply" button to the right, then the bottom "Apply" button, then Save the file in the Reader ?

Thanks for the help!

What you've highlighted Liv is the minimum train length (9 cars) that will be displayed by the game. If you want longer trains, you have two options:

Raise the upper limit only to have both long and short trains; two short trains that if added together under the unmodified entry exceed the normal max (15) would be combined into 1 train in a modified file.

Raise both and have a more "all or nothing" approach: Trains will not appear at all until traffic is great enough to fill the minimum amount of cars.

If you aren't familiar with hexadecimal:

0-9: As normal

A-F: 10-15

0x10 = 16+0 = 16

0x1A = 16 + 10 = 26

And yes, Apply on Right, Apply on Bottom, Save DAT file.

OK.  30.gif  If I want to do the "blue option", I would edit the number in the Values as text field to read: 0x09,0x1A ?  I would have both long and short trains, maximum 26, right?  Although I guess I could do.... say, 0x1F, for the second value...16+15=31.  Correct?  I wonder if 31 cars would be too long?  The willsim modd was 50 something, wasn't it?

Thanks ever so mcuh for your help!

Edit:

And Vince replied to my PM:

Yes, that is correct!

I never guessed it would the problem would be so deep...I just smelled a tiny glitch and assumed that it was caused by the TCEP like suggested. My hat goes off to those of you who found the error! Personally, I would've just kicked my computer until it fixed itself...
