Imaginary Friends

I had an imaginary frined named Mophi Galol (first name pronounced "moe fee", last name rhymes with "bowl").

He was a year younger than me. He was from Jupiter. Don't ask me where I came up with the name, I have no idea.

Here's the thing, though. Normally when kids invent themselves an imaginary friend, they play with it. I wasn't normal. I never played with Mophi. All I did was make up stories about who he was and things he did. I "knew" him, but I never pretended to interact with him. Quirk of being autistic, I guess.

So, anyone else here ever have an imaginary friend?

C'mon, don't be shy! 9.gif

I did. In fact, I still do. Two years is too short a friendship, imaginary or otherwise.

Her name is Alexis Marfan - same name as the main character in the CJ I started some time ago, but quite a different person entirely. We first met (or I invented her - I prefer met, it feels better) when I was 16. She is older than me - not quite so old as in the CJ, that was a really bad idea on my part - around 23 years old. She is also taller than me, with light brown hair and green eyes. She's originally from the Gold Coast. She started life as a pseudonym, but she developed all on her own into a personal ideal of sorts. I'm not quite sure I actually invented her - it feels more like I put a name to something that already existed. Like you, Duke, I don't play with her, but I do think up stories about her. I'm not really much of a playing person.

I don't interact with her much, certainly never publicly, but she is always there when I need her.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

As far as imaginary friends that you don't interact with but just imagine stories of, I've had a ton of those. Usually something to think about when I've got nothing else to do. Like before I fall asleep or while in the car.

Speaking of imaginary friends and the car, I always used to imagine that I had this wizard friend who would be jumping from one house to the next (or trees, power poles, whatever there was) while I stared out the window. I never named him, just imagined that there were people trying to catch him if he landed on the ground.

Yes, this is kitty.

I do not remember having an imaginary friend but I was told that I used to have one when I was in kindergarten but my sister had an imaginary friend Marusa Peach Willaby. Marusa was most likely chosen because it was one letter off from Marisa.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

I never had imaginary friends, but I had lots of real, physical chums that I knocked about with when I was a little kid.  Most of them were either cousins or children of people who worked with my father.  It was a big enough group to have a serious game of cops and robbers  (later commandos and Nazis, some of our guys did convincing German accents).  We also did winter things together like riding toboggans through the bush in "Dead Man's gulch" which was a real woodlot on a hill.  You could, and some did, get hurt, mostly broken arms from not keeping them in.

Maybe imaginary friends are only needed if you don't have many real ones.

Lol, I used to have one but I can't remember her name.  I think I asked her about clothes and guy advice. Probably not the best place to get it 3.gif

When it comes to imaginary friends, I have a few, but maybe because I have no true friends. I haven't named him yet, but I always think of him, like until I fal asleep or while I am board, and like, talk to him... I may be a bit old for that stuff, but we all our own "young child" characters.

One of them is the one I go to when I feel sad, another for, any situation that happens. I know he really isn't there, but it just makes me feel better like whn I am having a bad day, or whatever.

According to some Native American traditions, imaginary friends are spirit guides who will help you if you listen to their advice.

According to "The Ghost Whisperer", imaginary friends are ghosts.   The theory is that many children see them but either lose the ability or learn not to see them as they get older.

In a similar vein, some people that imaginary friends are real people who are communicating with the children telepathically.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

The ones I have I just make stories of in my head, I never pretend to interact with them, like in Duke's case. On a side note, it wasn't really until I came here that I actually made my own, before I simply did the same but with characters from cartoons.

Also there was the 'dragon' for lack of a better term that didn't like walking on artifical ground, but liked to run along side the car, so it jumped over all of the sidewalks or cross streets. Or flew, when the car was moving fast enough, then it had to avoid trees and stuff.

You think the term "imaginary friend" is really the best definition here? Can't say I ever had any literal "invisible playmates". However think most children, who are naturally creative, do invent alter-egos or characters like those to be put in a story. I can't see how that is in any way strange or schizophrenic

The only imaginary friend I have ever had is General Bullmoose.  You can see him in my avatar.

What's good for General Bullmoose is good for the country!

Mine was named Icarus. Icarus would do bad things and I would get blamed for them. Like one time, Icarus sacrificed the neighbors cat, to Baal, on a pyre of flame and somehow, I got blamed for that one. Or maybe the time, Icarus cut the break lines on dads Ford pick-up and caused him to crash down a cliff and explode into flames. I miss dad sometimes 11.gif
