Unlocker mod for CXL

    I wanted an admin decision... as I said before: not the best thing to do, but the right one.

    I won't post anything until I've got the ok from simtropolis.

    Anyway, now we've got a new, serious problem with the new blueprint feature:

    blueprint menu can contain only 50 buildings

    (and since all the stages are 170, I can't use all the buildings...)

    I'm trying to put stages in other places... (but I don't think I'll adopt this solution)

    I'm going to put:

    stage 1 -> landmark menu (already done... wrong thumbs, but everything works)

    stage 2/3 -> medieval pack menu (a menu for 5 elements is a wasted menu - thumbs missing, wrong descriptions, but it can work)

    final stage -> blueprint menu (as usual)

    The other way (probably I'll do this):

    releasing blueprint stages as expansion packs.

    So I don't touch other menus, blueprint menu isn't "overcrowded" and you can choose the megastructure you want.

    I've got BIG and wonderful news:

    I found a way to unlock also Omnicorp models, like this:

    There are few models, but they're nice...

    You'll find them in the medieval pack menu (together with the church).

    By the way, you ain't the only ones who are unlocking buildings, This CJ is a good example:

    I've got other news!!!

    After finding the right parameters to mod in order to use also omnicorp buildings, I understood how to use gembeach and gemski buildings in normal city mode...

    When I'll finish with omnicorp (hope to post a picture of all the buildings here soon), I'll try to unlock also gem models (I think I'll put them in the menu with the townhall, since it's empty at the moment...)

    I hope we can get this soon. Or I'll have to buy a new keyboard from salivating.

    Look at the uptick in interest here and you will see why modding is a good thing for a game even from the game designer's standpoint.... All this positive interest and good vibes and new doings that sound interesting to people who haven't yet bought the game. Where would we be if it had been this way all along... maybe the same place because of PO stuff but maybe better off...

    Why can the blueprints not behave like warehouses. I honestly think that OmniCorp Headquarters should produce at least 10 tokens of offices and multiply the token production of every token by about twice as much as the institutes. I think that there should be a mod to remove the limit on the number of institutes in a city. As it stands, I do Office, High Tech, and water in one city; Holidays (and Food and water or office and high tech) in another; Heavy Industry, Manufacturing, and Waste Treatment in another, and Fuel and Electricity in another (sometimes with water, sometimes with Heavy Industry). What I want to do is get one of those modded maps with no hills with full coverage of water and holiday destinations then build a city with offices, high tech industry, water production, and hotels, then a flat city with full water and fertile land coverage and build a high density farming community with clean energy then have a completely flat city with city links all around the city and build a supportive industrial city with large production of Heavy and Manufacturing Industries and of course electricity and waste treatment.

     I'm  probably not going to add something of intelligence and interest to this topic, but I just wanted to say that the mod will be awesome. Look at the massive increase in interest! I just want to emphasize that you do a really great job44.gif

    Will the Chrysler Building and The Empire State Building form the New York map be included?

    Gembeach and gemski will be released as a separate mod...

    Since I found a way to include all the buildings in the city mode, I'm going to remove gem buttons from the menu.

    Gemski tutorials will be available with the second mod. This way:

    First Package:

    Unlocks blueprints (stage 1 and final stage)

    Expand "expert mode" -> unlocks landmarks and other buildings (that can be unlocked playing the game)

    Unlocks Medieval Pack and his menu (as it was in PO mode).

    dependencies: Moaku sandbox mode (the two mods share the same cheat menu)

    First package expansion:

    Unlocks blueprints (stage 2/3)

    dependencies: first package (+sandbox mod)

    Second Package:

    Unlocks Gem tutorials

    Add all the gem buildings to normal menus

    dependencies: none (everything is available from start)

    Of course, if Admins want to, it's possible to remove parts of mod, in order to unlock only something particular.

    I have discussed this issue with an admin.  Frankly, we are not lawyers.  But we have been looking at the EULA, which would transfer to the company that bought the rights to CXL.  The part of the EULA, found here, that is most worrisome to me, is this:

    Accordingly, You must not, in particular:

    (iii) Decompile, dismantle, proceed with acts of reverse engineering, extract

    the source codes of the Game, modify them or create programmes or

    products derived from the Game, whether in all or in part;

    (iv) Remove, deactivate or invalidate any system of protection of the Game

    or any information or label of ownership present in the Game and/or its

    Documentation or in or on the packaging of the latter;

    So we have decided it wise to contact Dirk, who may be better able to interpret whether this would bring ST into legal contention with the company.  I think we need to wait for him to weigh in on this.  It is his site.  I would hate to see this cause problems for Simtropolis or Dirk if we go ahead.  Hopefully it won't be long until he lets us know.  And he may tell us to wait for word from the company.  I'm just preparing you for possibilities.

    Please do not challenge this position of the staff, or you may find your membership subject to discipline.

    I Really have no clue of whats about to happen, but it is true what jeremy12 said about MC fully aware that CitiesXS has mods, but since the company that bought cxl2011 only owns rights to CitiesXL 2011, not CitiesXL? this implies that the new company has no say of what to do with cities XL, and with monte cristo gone, the whole game seems like its just floating like a baloon in the air. Yet, we do not know if that undisclosed company bought CXL as a bonus with CXL2011.

    Also, to add on, Wasn't the reason for the ban on modding was for concerns with the Online area of the game? (i brought this up with phillipe and gregory when i was in the beta and included it when i played the online version) and they said they were concerned of hackers and cheaters, rising higher and faster than the other onine citybuilding community. but they included hopefully there would be a way of modding....
