"Suicidal City Tile"

I'm going to try to tell you everything you may need to know so I can get help as soon as possible.

I had this problem shortly after I first got the June 09 NAM and put it into one of my cities long ago, and now it's back. My problem is I will load the game, load a city tile, and it will remain frozen (no animations or anything, including the pause button at the bottom left). After a few seconds of this, my computer's fan makes a funny noise and the game crashes. I have tried reloading it two times after that (three total) but it still will not work. I have worked with NAM May 10, NWM 1, and RHW 4 for the past week without any problem whatsoever.

I am very reluctant on taking stuff out of my plugins and putting them back in because it would take several hours that I do not have to spare. My computer (a HP laptop) is a little old though so I do not know. Also, on my C: drive I have about 16GB left out of 111GB (don't ask why I got such a small computer). I have a 15" screen widescreen diagonal with a resolution of 1280x800. Below is everything else you may need...

If you have any suggestions on how to get rid of this problem I have, please let me know. It would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Excuse my lack of computer knowledge on such a stupid question... How do I do that?

You can buy RAM at computer shops and can insert it into your PC, assuming there are more slots for RAM.  Do some research about your computer online, find out if your computer has more slots.  If you want to be safe, you can take your computer into a shop and have them check and insert the RAM for you, but that obviously costs more.  Also, if you can afford it, update to WIndows 7.  Vista has memory management problems, and 7 seems to solve these problems (Sorry if that sounded like a rant).

See these instructions for increasing your laptop's memory to 2gb

If this is not something you have ever done I would recommend taking it to a IT shop and getting them to do it, much safer.

CAUTION! You may well have a version of the Intel Processors (an ATOM unit) that MAY NOT ADDRESS 2Gb of memory!!! Better check this out before you follow advice that will lead you to waste your money.

Okay, I know an IT shop that I can take it to that I have used before that is very reliable but do most IT shops have RAM inside their shops that they can just charge me for or do I have to bring it to them? Thanks for the tips too, that is probably what I am going to do. I don't want to screw up this laptop more than I already have 46.gif plus I need it to survive a few more years anyway (thats gonna be really fun.......!)

@SC4BOY: I think you missed a link in your reply... 18.gif

Actually he has a Pentium Dual Core for Mobile.

He has the 2080 processor while I have the 2060 processor on my Compaq Persario V6000 laptop. I don't have any problems playing the game on my laptop, but I did clean the dust out of mine after it started to overheat more often.

I'd say, get more RAM, try to blow out the dust with some compressed air(and make sure to prevent the fans from spinning during this or it might damage them) and get someone who knows computers to do it for you.

There was no link.. some things you have to do on your own (like finding the supplier of your system and their support network) 2.gif

thanks for the help everyone. I have a new piece of RAM so I have 1.5 GB now. I can notice a difference in speed.

But I still can not load up my city tile 33.gif so does anybody else have advice to give besides RAM additions? Thanks for the help everybody!

RAM isn't the issue. ( Running XP with 512mb RAM  and geforce 2 on High graphics)

Its something in the Sim City Map which breaks the rules and causes the game to crash.

I think it actually is a "suicidal" city tile that just doesn't want to cooperate. I deleted it. To answer your question Cathy, it was just that one stupid one. Everything else in the region works fine.

    Thanks for the help everyone!
