Perfection impossible. Need a plan B

Ok so i made 2 regions where i set taxes to 20% on high wealth residential and office.  This effectively denied them entrance into said cities.  I connected both cities to another region where taxes for those denied was about 4%.  I then went back and push both 'feeder' cities to about 300k population without any problems.  I try to raise the wealthy city... and i realized the game will not let you continue your idea any further, or so it seems.

Demand for residential high wealth just disappears after 20k citizens.  Doesn't go positive doesn't go negative, it simply ceases to exist.  Meanwhile, in both 'feeder' cities, there remains demand for high wealth residents.  I guess the most the game will allow, is to have a zone comprised mostly of one or the other, assuming mass transit is up to the task, but not both in the same city?

Essentially i'm looking for ideas to having a city of just high wealth residents and high wealth office, unless you think it is possible and i've overlooked something?

Hey there!

Your idea is completely possible and I've seen it done before.  I've found from experience that in order to maintain a high population of $$$ (both commercial and residential), you must have the desirability for it.  From taking a look at your pictures, I've observed that you don't really have many parks or open spaces, or lots that would increase desirability in the city.  Try plopping some parks, open spaces & trees in your residential neighborhoods, and plazas around your commercial centers to increase the desirability. Once desirability is there, and your covered fully by police, fire, health and education, your demand should begin to increase. This also goes for your feeder cities. 4.gif Hope this helps!

If you're looking for perfection )like the title says, then you better start looking elsewhere and not in SC4. This game is far from perfection.

To obtain a high wealth city you simply need to offer all the highwealth services and jobs. Jobs can be in a neighboring city, but services, such as Education, Protection, Water, Transportation have to be in that same city. In other words, if you're stuck at a population of 20K, you need to plop more and better schools, police, parks, LM's and other highwealth lots (and lots of those), and to achieve this you also need some patience, because wealthy Sims take their time sometimes. 2.gif

You need to add some more Cs$$$, CO$$, CO$$$, and IHT in your wealthy cities to drive up the demand for R$$$ sims. Zoning wealth specific regions through taxes is about as perfect as you are going to get with controlling what develops in SC4. It can be hard to do though because many businesses demand different worker classes. Wealthy sims really only make up about an average of 10% of your workforce. The rest of the jobs will need to be fed from commuters in your feeder cities.

Thanks for all the advice, it's helped quite a bit in getting the original intent of the city back on track.

As you can see i've gone from 20k people with no demand to 61k and growing.  In fact, they're happily moving in as quick as i can build.

With one city out of the projected 4 largely suppling the bulk of the demand at the moment, I don't see why i wouldn't be able to zone the rest of the map in this fashion!

No, each wealth level has an individual cap level. http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Tutorial9.gifemand%2C_Supply_and_CAPs

And even if they didn't; since he seems to be growing only R$$$ in the city with problems, demand for R$ and R$$ isn't relevant as long as they are are taxed out. A demand of exactly 0 for a prolonged time always indicates a cap problem.

Yeah, it was indeed a cap issue.  That was simple enough to fix.  Wish my rail problem was as easy.  Nobody ever uses any rail tile i place.  Even when its subway to elevated rail transition to put it over a bridge

Add some bus stops next to your rail stations and place a few others in residential and business districts. Sims will ride the bus to the rail station to the bus to work. Bus stops can be the ventricles and rails the arteries of your transport network. It might be hard though to get your high wealth sims to use mass transit. They prefer to drive their fancy cars to work.

It's not that, i suspect its a bug of some kind.  I just reinstalled the game, patch, and NAM but rails are still shut down.

Rest of the region uses subway, for example, but the moment i try to link a subway to elevated rail to link via bridge.. nothing...

You'll probably get more help if you learn to post pics instead of sending people off to other sites..

    Hello, dwyrin,

    Welcome to Simtropolis.

You've probably checked to make sure you selected the correct option for left or right hand drive when you installed the NAM?  I believe it can cause this if you selected left when you have a right hand version of the game or vice versa.

    Enjoy the game.

No, i didn't check.  I stared at the installation options at least 3 times and never processed the difference in drive.  What a silly mistake to make...

    Thanks Liv!
