Textur and Performance problemI

I have installed SC4 for Mac onto my MacBook Pro, and I am noticing a heap of problems. I also have a copy of the Windows version, but I find it frustrating just to reboot everytime I want to play (for performance reasons) and it would be even more frustrating that I would have to download the plug-ins again for the Windows version, and put it on the PC

(I haven't tried running SC4 in VMware Fusion, if anyone has tried it, please tell me, what was it like?!)

When I load SC4 and zoom to the lowest level, the road, zoning and cell pointer texture (white box) become mucked up. I have the latest patch, and my MBP is new (but not the newest model now) running with nVidia GeForce 9400 + 9600 graphics @ 256MB VRAM. Building Draw Speed is set to any stage, and it is very sluggish.

HOW CAN I CURB THIS GRAPHICAL PROBLEM!!

I am literally having this problem as we speak. It had been working fine until I built a water treatment plant. From there, I started getting garbled images including incorrectly rendered buildings, roads with extra lines, and a variety of other graphical mishaps. I thought maybe it was just that city, but even in other cities in my region, I began having that problem.

To problem solve, I went through my plugins folder and removed the last thing I downloaded, but that didn't help. I've quit the game and restarted my computer twice already. I tried the 32-bit z option when loading the game...all to no avail.

I'm running a MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of memory and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M @ 256 MB VRAM using OS X 10.6.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT to make changes to spelling...apparently I can't type this morning 4.gif.

    Hi all,

Don't know if this is the same problem I have started to have recently. I can't quite figure out what has changed to cause this problem, but please find attached an example.

    Thanks,

I think the problem is due to Mac OS 10.6.3. I have two Macs, my MacBook (installed Mac OS 10.6.3) has the texture and performance problem, while my iMac (still using Mac OS 10.6.2) does not have the problem. We all just have to wait patiently for the release of Mac OS 10.6.4.

Rumours that OS 10.6.4 should be released within the next few weeks. Weighing 600 megabytes, they will fix the graphics drivers, SMB, USB, VoiceOver and VPN. Graphics Driver, aka the texture and performance problems.

Within the next few weeks? that's good news. I just got SC4 rush hour and about to reminiscence but 10.6.3 really screwed it all up. that's it, I am going to set up windows 7 and play it there.

And more rumours. The Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2010 is tomorrow (June 7, 2010) in San Francisco. Rumours are saying that during the conference, Steve Jobs will release iPhone 4G, Safari 5 and most importantly Mac OS 10.6.4. If this is true, remember to update your OS from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4 tomorrow via Software Update, and the problem should be gone.

That's great news; thank you for the update. I certainly hope that the update is tomorrow, as once my doctoral courses start Wednesday, I can kiss my free time goodbye!

Good news, guys! Mac OS 10.6.4 was released yesterday! Try downloading it and see if the texture/performance problem is gone.

Maybe this is a bit late in the conversation, but I recently discovered a system addon that facilitated the adjustment of the internal fan on macbooks and macbook pros. In my experience the game usually ran with few graphics related errors ten minutes into playing, but after some play the glitches became much more numerous. I found that since installing this fan control preference the fan kicks in earlier and keeps the CPU a lot cooler and therefore reducing glitches. This method didn't totally eliminate the glitches but it seemed to do in a pinch.

Here is the link for macbooks. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23137/fan-control

You can change the base fan speed and the thresholds in which it starts to spin faster. Hope this helps.

I'm late with the news on Mac OS 10.6.4 update. I will try to get the updates later.

So, for those of you guys who tried the update, did it work?

    I hope it did.

I've been patient with the graphical errors on my MBP for the past couple of months. I thought it was just me, but now I have confirmed that indeed the error really happened right after the update to Mac OS 10.6.3.

    Here's hoping for the best,

My game works a bit better between a combination of installing Rosetta and the recent update. Now, I just get weird images on occasions. It's quite freaky when I go to lay down GLR and I get a guy's face 4.gif. However, it's much better than it was, and, while not perfect, I'm able to play the game again.

I think most users have had various problems for the last 6 months. Mine include funny looking roads, znoing arrows pointing in either two or no directions, transparent buildings coming out from chimneys instead of smoke, beaches made of skyscrapers and more. It usually helps, temporarily, to zoom out and in or reload the city.

I know this is a late reply. I have an older iMac. Intel - Core Duo 2.00Ghz - 2GB Ram - ATI Radeon X1600 128/256 MB (dont know im in windows right now)

I have been having the EXACT same graphical problems. I am on the latest Snow Leopard. As my iMac cant run Lion :(

Anyway - I tried both the Universial Binary & the PPC binary, running the PPC one has the same problems with added lagging..

I am wondering if anyone has fixed this problem yet. I have to play Sim City 4 in Windows, because the problem bugs the crap out of me. Also, I like the extra cheats DLL.

But I would LOVE to play it in Mac again.
