Power Lines

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to deal without the power lines and still get power.

My city blocks are just a little bit to far apart for the current power range to reach them. Is there a way/mod to change that range to something more substantial so I won't have to place ugly power lines in the middle of my cities next to houses. 4.gif I'll just pretend the power lines run under ground. 1.gif

Hope someone can help me.

The grass has another color than the background. And it feels so artificially fake.

Is there no mod available that makes the power range a lot bigger? Or perhaps that I can edit a file and change the value..?

I do think that the lots from Peg are very realistic. I mean he DOES have a reputation for making outstanding lots.

I Have a solution that requires neither powerlines nor grass lots!

    Here's how I always do:

I start with plopping down 1 tile of road, like so:

    img0006lp.jpg

Then I drag a zone while holding "Ctrl" over the road tile, like this:

    img0007vx.jpg

When you have dragged the zone like that, you have created a magical, invisible link between your two zones, and you can safely destroy the road tile. As long as you don't dezone the area, the link will remain.

    Wasn't that helpful?9.gif

Biriali: That works, but who would want ugly zones in the land? And plus, those lots would create a no connection zot, so that would be even uglier.....

What I do is I hold all 3 modifier buttons (ctrl, shift, and alt) and it results in an invisible zone. It does not develop, does not zot, does not show, and carries power. It is able to be dezoned though, and you need to dezone it before placing a zone on top of it, or to cross power lines across it.

I don't know what to put here anymore.

If you had plugin manager and invisible textures for lot editor, then you could create 'invisible grass parks.' Then you would be able to plop an invisible power connection that would work the same as plopping the noticeable grass lots. The only issue that could arise are some issues that sometimes happen with invisible textures, but other than that it should work.

Well, how about ploppable trees? I don't mean those mayor mode drawable trees from the landscaping menu, but the lot based trees. PEG's made some for his trees and the Maxis trees, and there are sets for cycledogg's trees. Being lots they transfer power (Almost certainly). If you don't have trees in between your zones, you can just place a cluster of these together and call it a tiny clump of trees 4.gif.

So it comes down to what kind of trees you like or use. Maxis, Peg, or CP?

All of these lots have transparent bases so that the terrain under shows through. If it doesn't look like it from the pictures, it's because the creator took a picture with a terrain mod, or else didn't take a picture of the lot with transparent bases.

    Maxis:

Peg Random Wood. Uses Maxis trees I believe. I couldn't find the updated version though.

    Pegasus/PEG:

Peg MTP Random Pine Forests. Uses Peg's Pine trees, which he has also created a mod to replace all the God mode trees with. You may find that mod here. There are also mayor mode pine trees that don't transfer power.

Peg Seasonal Woods. These change with the seasons. They aren't based on the Pine trees and have no God mode equivalent (but they were the first seasonal trees)

    Cycledogg/Cyclepuppy:

CP made the first mod that changed the God mode trees to place trees of his own creations. The lots below are based on those trees. If you want the God mode trees to go with them, they are here.

Random woods CP. Based on those God mode trees above. Unlike the God mode trees, you can't control which trees show up. The effect looks good anyways 3.gif.

SFBT CP Random Seasonal woods. As the title says, seasonal. You have a little bit more control over what trees show up.
