Roundabouts

Hi! This is my first new thread on this site, so apologies if it's in the wrong place. I've been investigating the downloads on the site over the past couple of days, and keep coming across 'roundabout fillers'. I first played SC4 when it was fist released but it always ran slowly. I got it again recently, and while looking for the money cheat (wanted to make a posh little town quickly!) online, i found this site. The idea of adding content into my game had never occurred to me before! I downloaded a few bits and pieces, all working lovely (thanks guys!), but the roundabout statue i downloaded seems to just be a round statue, with no roads. I tried to place roads around it, but that made a 'squareabout', not a roundabout!! Am i missing something really obvious? I can't seem to find a download to help, so i'm turning to you guys. Please help make my squareabouts round!!

ha ha, squarebouts ;-) I assume what you have is a roundabout filler, not a roundabout. You use these to fill in the blank 2x2 squares inside avenue roundabouts, not as roundabouts themselves.

Welcome to the wonderful world of custom content. The most important thing to get (if you haven't already) is the NAM.

LIke thingfishs is saying, get the NAM

link:https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21355

to upate the NAM link-https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=19184

NAM essentialls-https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=18239

To install- unzip the origional NAM folder and install it using the installer, then do the same thing for the update, then install the essentialls. You can select what you want to add when you install the NAM in a part of installation.(the NAM comes with the roundabouts. The avenue roundabout that you can use with that filler is in the roads menu once you install the NAM.)i'l add more info. later got to go!

Get ALL of those downloads for that is the complete Jule(or June?) package of the NAM.

Thanks, you two!! That pretty much answers that for me!! Just one more question now... what does NAM mean? I get that it's a thing i have to download and patch/install into my game (i have seen several abbreviated things around the site, and am still learning what they all mean!!!), but what actually IS it?

NAM is essentially an expansion pack for the game. It has been in continued development for years. The latest release is from june of last year. When installed it adds a large number of new transportation options and other things that are too numerous to mention) It also includes vastly improved pathfinding engines over the original game. While people will be of differing opinions about all the other plugins (and acronyms) available, few if any will disagree that the NAM is a must have. The home of NAM, and threads answering all NAM queries, can be found here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?board=90.0

There seems to be confusion about the NAM downloads. The only download needed for a first time user is the main NAM download:

The NAM update is for people who have already had the NAM installed and don't want to remove the NAM before they get the new version. The NAM essentials is not needed for anyone currently.

You can also download the seperate NAM plugins/projects. They are the RHW (Rural Highway, adds a brand new highway network, that maxis forgot to release), the HSRP (High Speed Rail Project, gives you high speed rail on the ground as well as elevated), the SAM (Street Addon Mod, gives you a variety of different street textures, like cobblestones, pavement, etc), and the upcoming NWM (network widening mod, which gives you thing's like 3 lane roads, 5 lane avenues, and more) but is not yet released.

Just a slight clarification to warrior's very informative post:  All the NAM plugins require that the main NAM be installed first.
