Expand This Word

The idea behind this game is to post a word that can be made into another word by adding letters in the middle.

Example:

I post a word like final

This can be turned into financial, where the new letters are anci.

All the original letters must remain and in the same order as well. I should also note, that the first and last letters should remain the same, hence the object of adding letters in the middle. You may add the new letters wherever you like, so long as the original word's letters remain in the same order. New letters may also be intermittent... for example...

I post a word like beer

This can be turned into bleeder, where the new letters are lde. This could also be accomplished by doing bleeder, where the new letters are led.

Now I will start it off with a word. The next poster will add letters to it to create a new word. Then they will post a second word for the next poster to add to. Do your best to pick a word you think can be altered according to the rules, which shouldn't be too difficult. Should we hit a dead end, just pick a new one.

Edit: (8-9-10) Hyphenated words may now be used if a single word cannot be found, but please do your best to find a single word if one exists.

Now to start this off...

Fun

EDIT: No takers?

Very well then. Let's move on.

Fun can be made into

Futon

New word...

I don't think you've quite got it, Larks. The idea is to add letters in the middle. Korot's word was toast, so your word must at least begin with T and end with T, keeping the O, A, and S in there somewhere as well, and in that order.

    Pie - Patriate.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

    Patriate ==> Expatriates

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3
