Functional Underpass

Are the NAM road (avenue etc) underpass pieces functional ingame?

As one of my favorite NAM features, they look awesome and are quite handy in keeping a grid nice and uniform.  Recently a UDI mission ended after I drove "through an underpass" and the traffic view has no colored path representing the underground section of road.

Would that be because they are below the surface?

Is there anyway to ensure their functionality?

Thanks!  Any and all replies are appreciated.

If you're using FLUP and its not working, you may have placed one or more of your puzzle pieces in the wrong way. This is especially true for one way road pieces.

I am using FLUPs, I have them passing under a large lot and not a road. Could that be the issue?

I laid out a section of road in a cross pattern, placed my road underpass, demolished the cross road and then plopped my hospital.

I experimented just now without a lot and got the same result. I really like them but I'm not into "eye candy" as it's called. A money cheat is enough in my opinion.

I noticed some other FLUPs that state "under Ped Malls" and "transparent" something or the other.

Could I be using the wrong piece?

    Help?!

Wait, I'm confused.  I tried that and it worked.  I can't see how it's possible to go under a road if they have to connect.

    What am i missing?

To correctly use the FLUP NAM puzzle pieces, you must follow these steps/rules:

    1. The entrance and exit must be placed in a spot where you can connect them via FLUP x (road, street, grass, rail, etc.) pieces.

    2. The puzzle pieces must be in every single tile that you want to be transit enabled. Therefore, they CANNOT go under lots.

    3. The transparent surface puzzle pieces are just blank pieces for a FLUP over blank land that you plan to develop later. You cannot build or zone over these.

    4. If you connect the end to the beginning with subway, not puzzle pieces, then it will not work.

If you follow these rules, the NAM FLUPs should work to your advantage.

Hi, I am a new to the NAM as well. It is quite overwhelming at first glance, and I also am extremely confused about the underground features. I have read the previous posts and still don't quite understand how to make them functional in my city...... I am trying to build an underground avenue underpass........ I understand how to plop the Underground avenue on ramp puzzle pieces  so that they connect to existing avenues but am confused as to what to to next.???? Should there be an underground avenue puzzle piece that I am missing or do I just aim the ramps at each other connect thtm to an existing avenue an assume that it works??? I too tried to drive through it on a free drive u-drive mission and could not .......

    Please help!

Oh and could you explain it to me like a five year old. After reading all the acronyms and terminology of some of these posts its clear to me that there is a Sim City tech learning curve....LMAO

Wileysolo3420, you will have to connect the underpass with both ramps as described above. There isn't a special 'avenue under xy' network tile as it isn't needed. Just plop two underground roads parallel beside each other. Each underground puzzle piece works for road, OWR (One-Way Road) and avenue.

This picture shows how to build a working underpass.

    Underpass.jpg

Generally, when a UDI mission fails going through a NAM underpass (=FLUP: FLexible UnderPass), you have either a wrong setup (underground pieces pointing the wrong way, wrong pieces, etc.) or the FLUP is incomplete (some or all of the underground pieces are missing).

It may also help if you think about overpasses. The technique for building over- and underpasses is exactly the same. Both of them won't work with just two ramps on each side as long as the overpass (underpass) parts themselves are missing. 2.gif

Thank you very much!! I now have functioning underpases all over my city. In a city of 535,000 they were needed. Consequently, the mod has worked wonders on my traffic situation!!!!!!! I all ready loved this game Ive been playing it since I had it on super Nintendo but now I am definetly addicted. You guys are wonderful. I never would have thought to improve a game myself,if I found that it had things lacking......... I'm gonna scour the net for the coolest addons that I can find......now I just have to figure out how to custom design lots and maneuver props around so that I can truly customize my cities....

There's an excellent tutorial at sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php

I also found FLUPs totally confusing until I read this thoroughly.  Knowing how to use them can be rather liberating!  But yes, it's unfortunate you can't develop or plop buildings on top of the underground network.

When I was running SC4 on my Mac, I had stumbled upon a glitch that was allowing me to plop flup tiles onto pretty much anything. Under Walls; JRP, Marrast, whatever, and under buildings too, however with the buildings it would remove the base texture and leave all the props which you could then individually delete, but immortalize the building. Useful for building eyecandy cities, but thats pretty much it. Now Im running Win 7 and had to rebuild my plugins from scratch and I've yet to come across this glitch. Anybody have any suggestions? I'd like to re-lot some of these buildings but LE wont work on Win 7. Neither will Reader. So it's pretty much my only option for relotting old outdated stuff.

As far as I know, but the Reader and the Lot Editor are C/C++ programs. There is no reason they should not work on W7. What version of W7 do you have? Sounds like the minimal distribution with no C run time library?
