Does anyone else have problems with wild animals!?! -- I do. Every time I place them in a forest, plain grass-land, near water or as far away from it as possible, the animals die within seconds!26.gif They die in 3 ways: 1) By running into water and drowning. 2) By runiing off the edge ofthe map. 3) By just dissapearing!

So what I'm really asking is if i'm doing something really wrong, or wheather its a bug, or wheather its something else... Please help me. -- I want wild animals in my city!!!

My animals do the same, but i don't think it's a bug.

If you look at your sims in mayor mode, they just apear for a brieve period and then disapear. That's the way the game shows these animations. So it's the same for the animals, they will appear here and there for short periods when you are in mayor mode.

No, as far as I know they do indeed kill themselves at the soonest possible moment.

I always get a laugh at seeing a herd of deers run into the water at full speed, only to drown moments later. Apparently Maxis tried to make the animals want to seak out water, which would be highly realistic, though they messed up somehow and now the animals simply die in the water. Never noticed them jump off the edge of the city, but I can imagine how funny that looks.

Well in my C.J. region they love to run off cliffs and then fall into the river below. That is pretty weird.Or they run straight for the city and disappear when they run into the freeways...which is really stupid.Animals on the freeway? No wonder why trafic is so bad....18.gif

Has anyone got a successful animal population... You know, ones that don't act like lemmings? (Lemmings don't actually kill themselves, but oh well. -- You get what I'm trying to say)

I have plenty of animals wandering around in my God-mode forests. They don't seem to like plopped parks or PEG's tree lots. 22.gif

I've got lots of mammals. It's the birds that won't stick around for me.

I have the same problem. Ironicly in my case the birds are the only ones that don't disappear. It's quite odd, but I guess you just need to go back in god mode and make more. It's probably just a bug, not your computer. Would be best to make sure your computer meets the Mb needs though, I know mine does not.

I also have the same problem, especally when using any terraforming tools or disasters!

Once I placed Animals on top of an volcano and when the lava disappeared the animals are still alive!

    How wacky is that?! 9.gif

Hope this isn't too off topic....

That reminds me of something I did in GTA3 by accident. When a car explodes, it tends to attract a crowd of pedestrians, who circle around and stand and gawk. Well, my car blew up in the water. So this crowd of pedestrians ran up, and promptly drowned.

Back on topic, though, I see deer grazing peacefully in the forests outside my city all the time. I go there frequently to test the new NAM feaures without saving afterwards, though, so it's always at the same point in time, and usually paused. But they don't panic and charge for the river when I unpause it. Even in the face of the nearby bears.

You need *large* forests (real trees, I guess, not plopped Peg forests or there like I guess) in order to have the animals left. I think that someone from Maxis has told that your very last animals will disappear when Your forests covers less than 25% of Your city. If You cheat to get more animals in a city with too little forest, they obviously do not like the setting and just walk right away as soon as they are plopped.

Wile the animals do have a tendency to run off cliffs and run into the water or off the map if you just cruse around for awaile they start to show back up including birds .
ps whales need the water to be deep enough and thats about all they need .
I had three show up in a lagon about the size of 4 city blocks and as long as I left a small oping 2 tiles they stayed and I turned the lagon into a sea world with buildings and sims all around the lagon .
Kind like a huge fish tank and I even put a flat brige over the out let to compleatly enclose the lagon
so the whales couldent leave it was real cool . stayed that way for manny sim years with the city growing around it.

I don't know about the animals thing, but to the responder who said he hadn't seen a whale in forever, it might be due to a water-color mod. Dark colors can obscure the whales for the most part.

He's right, they do come back like cars. You put them in god mode and they do tend to drown themselves, but if you start to build the city and go into the closest or second closest zoom then you will see animals appearing and disappeaar like cars on the road. So don't worry, they are there, its just that they don't always show up.

Or, you could modd the game to replace cars with animals. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

Animals tend to disperse once you place them in GOD mode.

This dispersion might take them off board, in water, of cliffs and other suicidal/non-realistic ways. It's just the way the little dwarfs in your PC calculate things.
Once you start playing in Mayor mode, the return randomly where there are natural forstes (indeed the PEG-tree lot does not have them, great lot though). I have some small corners of natural forest here and there even close to my CBD. This makes bears walk over streets and onto some of my commercial buildings. Quite funny.
It is even realistic, come to think that the wild life in USA and in other places tend to adapt to our self-made habitat and they seek the easiets way to food (usually going through our rubble). Ever read those stories about grizzlies walking in a tent camp in search for food? Well, I am elaborating too much maybe.
