Stop points at road-street intersections

As I was taught some time ago, at intersections between street and roads there are stop points where traffic stops as if there was a traffic light. This of course is a most unrealistic thing, which causes unending columns of automata to form at every intersection of mine. Please please someone remove those stops, I'll be eternally grateful!

You probably already know this but...

...with streets you can install a stoplight by dragging a road out from the center one tile in all directions. It doesn't solve the problem but I think it looks better and it helps with traffic.

Sure it looks better, however I can't make a stoplight every 100 meters or so... it's just so annoying to see cars and trucks stopping at every junction with minor streets. I don't have the foggiest how to make such a mod, but I was told it could be done. I'm willing to try if someone teaches me.

Ah yes. I pointed out this little annoyance back after Rush Hour was first released. I'm not sure if anything can be done with it, though.

this would require editing, as a very poor guess, a hundred or so path files that are contained both in the SC1-5.dats, as well as all the additional NAM components. im not sure if any RULing would be involved....

I find the automata to be at best annoying.. I simply turn them off unless I wish to take a photo in which they would be important.. also takes some load off your cpu as a side bonus... they have nothing whatsoever to do with the game other than "eye candy"

Hello Ch0c0, do you think you could teach me how to edit those path files? I have plenty of patience, if that's the only problem. You see, I sometimes enjoy UDI, and find annoying having to stop at every intersection. Can you help?

It's a lot more than just the path files. What ch0c0 was essentially saying was that you would have to become an expert in most areas of the NAM internals (which is no mean feat), and even then it would take an extremely long time. Unless you can devote the equivalent of a few months full time to this, you don't want to do it. If you still do, you'll basically have to teach yourself the NAM internals.

im a niche contributor to the NAM, so i am not entirely sure about every aspect of a mod like this.

however, here's a place to start.

also, here's a ton of info on teh NAM internals...http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=NAM

Gee, I didn't imagine it was that complicated. You almost managed to discourage me! 4.gif

Thank Ch0c0 for the links, I'll start learning some pathing then.

Now, assuming I got the basics of path editing, I open the Simcity_1.dat. How do I tell which pathfiles are for road-street intersection?

Great news, folks! Job done and working wonderfully. It was quite simple, no RULing involved, just editing a dozen path files, which took me a couple of hours. At last my automata go straight ahead at intersections, I'm so happy!!

That would certainly be a very nice first upload.  Congratulations on having accomplished this so quickly!  And my apologies for being too discouraging. 21.gif

It's ok z1, hope everything works.. it does on my game, and also when I tested it as only plugin, even with no NAM. It should work for everybody then, so I'll upload it right now.

Very good, and a good description too! I like that you linked to the other mod, it makes your mod even better!

Have you considered PM'ing someone from the NAM Team, so they can put this mod into the next NAM? It would be great, and i think this mod is so essential, that it should be in a future NAM release.

    Thumbs up!44.gif
