I do not have enough schools to fill demand

I recently loaded up a city, and found that my one school which had just 400 kids in it suddenly needed 5000 desks.  I built another school, but that one became 200+ students overfilled, then I tried building 5 more, and they were all overcrowded.  I kept building and building, but demand was never satisfied.  What is causing this?

Yes there should be a bigger school that you can plop down. if you diont have it (which you should) then press Ctrl+X and type "you don't deserve it" (without quotes), press enter and you will unlock every building in the game :-)

You could try some of these schools (HERE, HERE, HERE). They have pretty big capacities (I think). Have you checked the funding for the schools?

Hope that helps!

Shoot, I forgot to mention that the schools I use are custom ones from Simtropolis and LEX and the rest. They have capacities of 8000, yet they are ALWAYS overcrowded, even in a city of 45,000 when I have about 8 or 10 of these schools. Where are all these students coming from?

@coachmcguirck - are the region tiles around this city developed - maybe thats were there coming from? Don't know if that can happen but if it happens with jobs etc. why not?

Early in a city's development all the new residents are dumb and young.. 4.gif This means that the schools will be overloaded if you use the full radius and full coverage. You can solve this by placing the schools nearer the edges of the R areas and by decreasing the "bus" funding. As the sims get older and smarter, you will find the demand drops very low. As this happens you can start expanding the busing radius and or adding more schools.

Actually, I wonder if this can happen, as that would explain it.  The tiles around the city are developed and may not have a school.

Oh I forgot to mention that heavily overloaded schools are also the result of trying to grow cities with high density FAST.. if you take your time and grow more slowly starting with lower density, you won't have this problem. On the other hand if you want to grow fast, you'll just have to add a lot of schools.. they will share the load within their "bus radius". You can thin them out later as the population matures.

@SC4BOY: I see what you're saying, but what is happening is there are actually more people going to elementary school than there are people in the city.

And about commuting from SimNation to my SimCity schools, I do not think that is possible since there is a radius of schools' effectiveness.

Anywho, after I test out decreasing the radii, I'll post the result

This cannot happen.. you have some bad mod installed or something.. perhaps you can temporarily remove all plugins and start the city up (ignor any warnings, but don't make any saves while you're exploring). Does the problem still occur?

I am having the same issues, but with hospitals instead.  Every hospital I put down is over loaded, surpassing my total population by far.

No this cannot happen as the "sick" people is a subset of the city population. It would be interesting why both of you are having this issue (they don't get "borrowed" from other cities).. I don't recall ever seeing this issue posted before, but suddenly we have it happening twice.. one with schools and one with hospitals.. I'm wondering if some recent mod or lot has something in it which causes this problem. Do you have a lot of custom content? If not perhaps you could list your mods and lots? If it's a long list let me know and I'll post a method to get your pc to list them to a file (it's a bit long if not needed)

I had this problem when I was using a certain custom hospital once. It disappeared when I removed the hospital. Unfortunately, at this point I don't remember what hospital it was.
