Hi all! I'm just wondering where I can get those realistic farm mods. The Maxis ones' look kinda un-realistic.

Head over to the LEX and do a power search for "Agriculture". There are loads of farms and fields that really look realistic, like the BLS farms and SimGoober's fields. Be aware that some of them have loads of dependencies, though. But I guess that's the price to pay if you want variety and realism.. 34.gif

I dont build IA very often, but all of the farms I am seeing in CJs and other screenshots only have one field per set of buildings (barns, sheds, etc)  Is there a way to zone so that the set of buildings has multiple fields to make it look realistic?

Alot of farms where I am from are family owned so there is usually a low-mid wealth house on the lot, a few barns and sheds, and there are multiple fields and even grazing areas for cattle and horses.  It would be cool to see this ingame but I wouldnt know how to zone for it.

No, there is no easy way, and there is no quick solution. It's hard-coded: An agricultural zone requires one actual farm, and the rest is filled with field lots.

A workaround is to create farm lots that work as farms from a technical point of view, but look like normal fields from an optical point of view. That's quite a lot of work, though, because while a generic farm can spawn several types of fields, you'd need one farm per field type in order to have the illusion of fields without a farm building.  You'd also need these for the three farming stages.

I know what I'm talking about all too well. The very problem you mentioned used to bother me, too, so I totally re-made my agricultural sector. It has nothing to do with Maxis any more... 2.gif

Cool.  Do the feilds employ people or generate taxes?  Doesn't really matter so long as they look more realistic.  It would be neat to have corn rows and other field types as a filler plop.  Maybe those 64x64 size farms I see on some CJs use tiles like this?

there are a bunch of ploppable fields (including corn) that appear in your park menu and have no effect whatsoever (other than visual) They can be found here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5603.0 They still suffer from the box effect though (as do most of the aforementioned BLS & SG farms as well) Getting realistic non-boxy farms (especially functional ones) is no easy task, but they are out there. And I will create some more realistic farms along the way (as a proud member of the hypothetical anti box league, did I get our name right T Wrecks? ;-) ) However I am only really interested in functional farms, so there will still be some limitations, but as I'm sure T Wrecks will agree, there's still plenty of improvement that can be made to the game in this area.
