Well, this is like something I said in the CJ entry where this airport was shown.

I have serious doubts about this airport's realism and real life construction feasibility; but it is obvious that the creator has spent an awful amount of time with it, and this fact has to be taken into consideration. For me, it is an exercise of persistance and dedication to a goal, and nobody can doubt this.

Edit: Oh, and... WELCOME TO PAGE 17!!

Seriously huge airport!!! :thumb: :thumb: :O :O :O

And I can see a smaller one next to it. It's a Maxis made?

Gracias.

Agreed, there are Sci-Fi Cjs out there with HUGE airports and no-one criticizes them. After all, this is just a game, you should not be limited to realism only.

Thank you

Wow, this beautiful! One of the best airports of seen so far, you have done an amazing job and I absolutely love the city in the middle. Great job with your shots and hope to see more.

-Cheers!

Thank you very much

A lot of dedication has been put to these airports. 4.gif

Please take note that SimCity 4 is a game of Creativity, so don't criticize the airport if it is too big or too small, too full or too empty, too flat or too rough. 28.gif

After all, realism starts with creativity 49.gif

Thank you I fully agree with you.

Yes they are maxis Airports, that is why I needed a huge airport, because maxis airports have a runway shorter than 500m,

So many airports with large runways however take a lot of space. Here is an idea. How about replacing all those Maxis airports with heliports and bus stops with airport functionality? Those buildings require less room and have large capacity of passengers ;)

I love your Idea, in fact I also had thought to do that but I have been unfortunate to find a functional heliport or bus station which might cover the function of Maxis Airport to hold 250,000 passengers.

I think that Simgoober's heliport fully upgraded can help a lot. If 1 is not enough, build a second. You can also build vertiports, airports for Vertical Take Over and Land (V.T.O.L.) aircrafts, something like this...

It has been a long time since I haved made this video about my biggest airport which covered a large city Therefore today I am building another aiport that would occupy about 3 large cities to make it more realisctic, and will have all lots that currently exists in simtropolis.com. So here is the link :D

It's been a little more than a year since I made this one, but I still think its the best one I've ever made.

I made the video just shortly after completion so things are somewhat out of date, but I have made upgrades since then so now it looks a little more like the real thing. And yes I put a lot of effort into to make this airport look very much alive!!! :D

Two quick comments though:

1.Due to space I couldn't incorporate runway the 5th runway 10/28

2.IMPORTANT- Because there were no Airtran 737's available I decided to use Westjet as a replacement.

Just a few Current Statistics-

Daily Passengers: Approx. 175000 sims

Daily Cargo: Approx: 1800 departures/arrivals

Daily Aircraft movements: Approx 1200 tons

Now I can show screen caps of a more up to date version

Looks like it's peak time for departures right now. Also looks like the aircraft maintenance crews are going to have a full schedule today ^_^

Echo-terminal (International/Long-Haul Terminal)

As you can see, to improve realism I added extra ground equipment.

Of Course I didn't forget that sims need hotels to stay overnight :thumb:

Well that's pretty much it. I will definitely be posting more airport pics soon. I just finished one and Im going to start work on another one soon. This next ones going to be somewhat different, so I decided to post my progress in the form of a city journal. Hope you liked, this is my first forum post ever soooo....yeah!!!

I like your Airport. Really like it, My airport is not realistic compared with yours. The only detail i find is the separation of the spotlines of the runways. Out from that It is perfect.

here's my airport, the work it's obviously still in progress:

airports.jpg

since I'm not really an airport expert I ask you: wich model of planes it's realistic for this kind of airport to host?

keep in mind that it's a small international airport for a east asian city state, most of the flights ar for Tokyo and Seoul and some for other destinations in SE-asia, maybe also some 747 for Europe o the US

I would use at most an A330-200. The runway is a bit short for planes larger than that. So a few A330's, A300's, and of course A320's and 737's.

The airport looks really good, just don't try to build Kai Tak :P

Possible options:

737s: Japan Airlines, Korean Air,

757s: Air China,

777s: Emirates, Philippenes, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, Jet Airways, PIA (Pakistan International Airlines), EVA, Cathay Pacific, Garuda Indonesia

A300: Thai, Malaysian

A320: Asiana

If you want 747s, then Lufthansa, British Airways, and United would probably work.

Edit: But as Cyclone1001 said the runway seems a little bit short for 747s. A 777 can probably land on it, I doubt you'd get much larger than that though

Runways should be 2.5km long (150 tiles) and then you can use any plane you want.

Don't listen too much to the complaints about the runway length, I implore you. Realistically, your runway wouldn't be long enough to land a large aircraft. However, this is a little irrelevant in the circumstances of a game. (and if we want to go into the technicalities, a runway built of that material is neither wide nor strong enough for large aircraft landings anyway - wide, strong, concrete runways have yet to be released). Having looked at the location and statistics of your city, I would echo the suggestion of the 737/A320 from JAL, Asiana and Korean. The A320 of Dragonair or China Southern would also fit well.

I'd also suggest the A330 of Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific, as they are often used on Asian routes like this. For European carriers, you could have the A340s or 747s of Lufthansa and Air France, and the A330s of KLM or Aeroflot. It's also possible that the Pacific carriers like Air New Zealand or Qantas would fly a route like this (depending perhaps on the cultural connection). I would recommend too the 747s of United or Delta.

It really depends if this is your city's primary airport or not. If you're not an aviation-fanatic like some of us, I understand all these numbers and 7this7 and A3that can be confusing. If you need links to the packs where you can find these aircraft, please say so and I will happily post them for you. (Just not right now, I'm nearly done on an assignment ;) ). I have to say what you've done so far looks excellent.

Looking at the map, seeing as you're also close to Russia (albeit the less inhabited parts) an A320/737 (can't remember which one it is) from Aeroflot wouldn't look out of place

Thank you very much. I am very much obsessed with commercial aviation so I made absolutely sure to make my airports as realistic as possible. I made the runways like that to get that first off-ramp as close as possible. Anyways thanks again

It's probably long enough to get aircrafts down on (albeit a little narrow), but getting them up again might be a problem...

Regarding the length of the runway, Kai Tak and Macau was/is c. 3,300 m -- which can be expanded into the next tile if you want to. As said, Korean, Japanese and Chinese 737s and A320s are obvious -- more long distance, you have to choose your planes and carriers carefully. First of all, the historic connection and how that fits in with trade and culture. A few of the biggest ones might bring in 747s, but beneath that level you must decide on some 767s, 777s, A330s and A340s -- and you must be selective with carriers. If there's a Swiss connection it would be natural with Swiss, but not Iberia planes for example.

But the single most important thing is SPACE. Airports are monsters (including Kai Tak-type airports). Use SCAGs A340-600 MMPs and plop them liberally where you're going to have taxiways to ensure no planes will bump into each others or buildings.
